This is one of the most amazing works I've seen. You're incredible. That soldier actually has the thousand yard stare. Your sculpture is alive. Thank you so much for sharing, Elliot.
I love that you referenced Ninja Scroll when talking about that part of the lip. That was a hallmark style of a lot of anime that's almost gone now. Those characters always felt so dimensional. Thanks for the tutorial!
The sculpture is amazing on its own but your understanding of the ugly phases in sculpture plus anatomy is incredibly inspiring and impressive. Great tips as well!
Gosh! There is a lot more involved in this than I could have ever imagined. I had heard about anatomy in art but I had no idea how much was considered in sculpting a bust, those speed builds, which I really enjoy and am amazed by, make it look so simple. Oh and thanks for putting 'Let's Get Physical' in my head, which I can't get rid of now :D
Man thank you so much for this! I just now discovered you but I look forward to watching the rest of your videos. Seriously one best tutorials I’ve watched all around. Your work is beautiful as well, could watch this all day long.
I am a purple heart veteran and an artist. And just gotta say wow man this is so cool. I would love to know this skill to make memorials for my fallen brothers.
@@uncleshome3315 if you wanna be specific 'veterans' is short for 'military veteran' as you can be a veteran in many occupations or fields, so referring to someone as a veteran is technically a shortened term. :)
thanks for this. I'm just getting into clay, and now I have all these pointers and more videos to look forward to. you are as a good as being in a class.
This is freaking amazing. I learned more in an hour than I can believe. I'm playing around with Monster Clay and waxes, but without real background like this, you're really winging it. In short, thanks for making these.
@@AndyTanguay Thank you, is monster clay the same as modelling clay? Im trying to figure out what clay animators use for marquettes, they looks similar
@@rainbow_2225 it’s definitely a modeling clay. It all depends on what you like and feel comfortable with. If you’re talking about stop motion animation, I think a lot of those in modern stop motion like at Laika are some kind of foam over an armature. And if you’re talking about concept sculptures for animation, once again, that can be whatever feels right to you. I know Pixar had some artists that used Sculpey. At least years ago.
please do more, i have supplanted 'your' videos for all others on CZcams, over the last few days- even watching them over... ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL.. i am sincerely considering beginning sculpting.. THANK YOU
What a beautiful sculpture ,it was a joy to watch ..you made it look so easy .. I loved all the details you put on him ..I particularly liked his torch as my Father was in the Navy and I have a lot of memories of playing with his and later holding it when he worked on the engine of his car..lol..funny how silly things like that can make you smile ..He is a beautiful piece of work 😀
By far one of the best sculpture tutorial on CZcams. I love how much you took the time to explain everything in detail. I would appreciate more Videos, probably human body, Torso or faces like Apollo. :D awesome work
Well i was watching some sketching videos and came across this tutorial. Its amazingly done a very nice pace good editing good sound and super talented sculptor and teacher. Came for the curiosity stayed for the art. Keep up. Will gladly stay for another hour every time. Cheers.
Fantastic! You are quite an artist! I am wanting to expand my sculpting by learning to do busts. I will have to look up some of your other videos. Aside from great technique instruction, coverage of all tools, clay, chemicals, and set-up is very important and many people leave these out or skim over them.
This is a very well made video, I like how you sculpt the piece, and casually comment/explain things, and drop some lines here and there that are sort of a bit humorous. It is also a cool thing that you record voice over the silent footage instead of filming video and audio together. These 50 minutes are much easier to watch than a good lot of the 10-minute videos out there. And I like the sculpture itself of course, it is the reason I clicked on your video in the first place.
Always start with a small flat base for stability and a wooden dowel attached to the base to support the neck so it doesn't fall or crack. Absolutely beautiful work👍🏽
Very impressive; great presentation as well. The instruction is spot on, you have (and explain) reasons for your actions with a result already in mind.
You gave this guy ears and hair and then covered it with a helmet. That, ladies and gentlemen, is a true artist.
That`s OCD :)
Nope, not what OCD it.
That's definitely not OCD
Wowwwww. How dare you sir!
Define true in artist
Ive watched this a dozen times and each time I take a little something with me. Thanks!

Just absolutely breathtaking how real, & authentic that sculpture looks ! Amazing 😮
The sculpture is amazing on its own but your understanding of the ugly phases in sculpture plus anatomy is incredibly inspiring and impressive. Great tips as well!

This is beyond spectacular. Thank you for taking us along for the ride. I’m so inspired!
Absolutely awesome!!!
Never watched these techniques before and I’m absolutely mesmerized by them. Thank you for showing them.
This reminds me of the painting “Marines Call it That 2,000 Yard Stare” by Thomas Lea, a war artist in the Pacific during WWII.
Soldier boy, made of clay
now an empty shell
twenty one, only son
but he served us well...

Whats the difference between monster clay and polymer clay?
@@rainbow_2225 Monster Clay is more of a wax-based clay. Not too sure what polymer clays are made out of TBH
