2009 and Deacon Blue were playing a concert with Simple Minds in Sheffield. First time I'd seen either of them live. First date with me Julie, must have impressed her as we're still together.
i always maintained that this song was Deacon Blue's shining hour. it always gives me goosebumps and brings a smile to my face. an absolute masterpiece to hang your hat on. one of those songs where i'd love to ask them ... how did you feel when you recorded that? did you just know how great it was?
They knew for sure - as a songwriter myself (from a much lower shelf) imho - your best songs always seem to just arrive from the ether and fall into place with divine-like ease and in no time. Absolute masterpiece written by God and deacon blue ♥️

I love this song but what really frustrates me is paying to listen to the group who then don’t sing the song…. Do it twice then. Once the crowd and then once you for real, but we pay to hear you…. We sing it loads in the shower etc.
