Agree. Probably the use of harmonium for accompaniment is part of the desire to capture bigger crowd by talking to it in “musical vernacular “, so to speak. Harmonium is not classical (or even Indian) instrument. That’s why it makes any classical rendition sound pop-classical.
It is a thumri. Here musicians can get some privilage on harkat. That we have listen to do many Ustadji previously. Even Ustad Bare Gulaam Ali Khan ( Dadaguru of Koushiki) was the maestro of harkat/chhot taan/ loykari. I think Koushiki is mature enough to choice the styles. At the ambience, she has grown up, will never allow her to misjudge. More over she is till under guidance of her guru/ father pt. Ajay Chakraborty, who is a very disciplined person. I think every thing is going alright.
