Hi, thanks for your comment. We would absolutely recommend practicing this skill. When executed safely and effectively it's an excellent skill to have in your armoury.

All shots could be dangerous but not when you can keep all of them low and in control when you want to. Then there shouldn't be a problem. Defending it should also be done from close so you can block their dangerous swing with the stick. If you are too far distanced, don't even try to get in front of the ball. Too dangerous
