    This house is an absolute treasure! What a view, what bones in the building. I had to chuckle see the shot when you were standing on the steps outside of the house. The steps are literally crooked. Oh well, that is what shows the charm and age. I love how they kept the brick in their bedroom. I am sure it is very tempting to put insulation in and cover that up for warmth. However, look what would be lost. Thank you for sharing.

    Very nice to see a young couple have appreciation and take care for an old home. It becomes more apparent to me that most want instant gratification. Glad to see some have the "elbow grease" to make dreams come true:)

    • @TheSwissChalet
      @TheSwissChalet Před 2 lety +3

      The kitchen cooking area looks great and the original decorative floor tile is beautiful, but other than that the decor looks bland and depressing to me. The charm and character isn’t there.

    • @lauraschroeder8177
      @lauraschroeder8177 Před 2 lety +1

      @@TheSwissChalet That's because it is a dark farmhouse and that is exactly why they painted the walls and beams white. The charm is the original architecture, land, garden, Provance light, stone, stucco and wood. One doesn't need much decoration. They are a young couple learning how to design and style evolves.

    • @TheSwissChalet
      @TheSwissChalet Před 2 lety

      @@lauraschroeder8177 you can increase the light in a space without painting everything white. You can use more natural very light hues like ecru, pale lavender, soft blue, light sage green, etc, and not make it look empty and sterile. You can also add lots of accent lighting with antique sconces, lamps, or overhead lights made out of recycled wrought iron, etc, or use lighted plastic tube strand lights that are tucked above the beams out of sight but they still provide illumination.

    • @lauraschroeder8177
      @lauraschroeder8177 Před 2 lety

      @@TheSwissChalet All those paints are based in white and white unifies a small cottage. You don't want to paint tiny rooms different colors or put a bunch of junk on the walls. I'm not talking about "lighting" but natural light. Provencal style is simple- not cottage country.

    • @TheSwissChalet
      @TheSwissChalet Před 2 lety

      @@lauraschroeder8177 lavendar, sage, and ecru are literally Provencal colors. Look at any French traditional decor book. The white on white on white scheme is over. It was big about 10 years ago. You can use very light colors like I mentioned and stay true to the architectural style of the house. You an choose 1 color for the walls (a light soft sage or lavender) ecru for the beams, and another for doors, window frames, trim, etc. Three colors for an entire house with one of those colors being the main color is basic professional interior designer 101. If you want to do white everywhere, fine, but then you need to at least have pops of color in artwork, furniture, or somewhere or it will look like a laboratory, or a house where depressed boring people live.

    This is what this Australian male will be doing next year ! I will be leaving Australia,I was born here 55 yrs ago and after pondering for over 5 yrs wondering where the heck is my life going? I have 2 kids, 22 and 20 yrs young very independent always on the computer,rarely seeing them or even having a chat. This is the modern child,very sad :( My soon to be ex wife was content to work come home quick walk and then make a nest for herself, take her brain out and watch mindless reality TV e.g The Bachelor. I was a Male Nurse for 28 yrs and now for the last 10 yrs I restore Mid century ,tired worn Chesterfield and leather furniture, then sell them on. So over the last 5 yrs, I kept saying to myself "I do not want to die in the suburbs!" I want out of this very expensive big Island ! I said to the wife, I am going to live OS if you want to come along,come Same to the kids but they have their mates,Uni and their own lives. The wife said she wants to stay as she has family , clicking snobby friends and her job. No protest from her for me to stay which is good which means no break up issues. I do all the cooking, cleaning,maintenance, washing, gardening ,shopping, renovations see I'm a typical Virgo :))) Boy is she in for a shock when I am drinking French wine next year and she has to defend for herself. No animosity between us just grew apart, we had fun but why waste what I have left and after doing Nursing looking after 1000s of patients then coming home to look after 3 more people it was time for me to be selfish! Time to cut the security chord! Originally I was going to move to Wyoming but the political world there,in my opinion is ready to explode if the democrats still the 2024 election again! Stumbled across France one night on Goggle and was blown away but the prices ,the villages, the history , the food and the country lifestyle :) So my mate (dog) and I will be buying a small old farmhouse/inner village house that's in good condition and then putting my touch on it . Fill it with French and Mid century furniture and art. My fav youtube show " French Country Life " makes me feel I am in her lovely home and wandering around France with her family and here I am sitting in Australia with a big grin on my face,just thinking about the future in France and dying in the beautiful countryside and not the Burbs :))))

      Cynthia,
      Pourquoi cette xénophobie ? Aujourd’hui le brassage des peuples est une chance et le monde s’est ouvert. Je pense qu’une population aux origines diverses apporte beaucoup à tous et évite les attitudes un peu instinctives de repli, de sclérose. Chacun fait de sa maison ce qu’il veut et peut, chacun doit pouvoir être accueilli et compris dans le lieu qu’il a « élu ».
      Cette tolérance nous honore et nous grandit, tout en étant plus satisfaisante pour soi que la méfiance et le rejet de l’autre qui entraînent des pensées négatives en nous.
