man, Ray's family was my next door neighbor's when i was a kid in Corona and i remember watching him kickflip over the fire hydrant in front of out house. Was a super nice, cool dude back then and its crazy to see how far he went! Hell yeah Ray!
Super legend. Skating really needs like an actual Hall of Fame you can go to. Like a Smithsonian...30 years or so later and this is still just so sick.
I love his natural beauty and relaxed attitude towards skating Love his music too So interesting to see that old footage too Its like those 1 year skate progress vids But its from beginning of pro carrer to peak. I love it. Great editing sneep
Has to be one of the happiest humans on Earth. Joy to watch him skate and LISTEN to on guitar! So talented! Recently ordered "In Full View" (deluxe edition) CD... can't wait to listen to... ❤😊✌👍🙏
think about it.. Ray been killing on a board, anytime a no comply is mentioned, Ray pops up… since mid 80’s till 21st century. (different shapes/sizes/eras/style) while most of our friends we skated probably quit or gone away in life. Thank u Ray.
I was 13 years old when the first issue of 411 video magazine came out. The 360 double kickflip trick tip had me and my homies floored. I still skate - if I saw somebody do that trick now I would shake they hand - it's like 30 yrs later, that move would be rad even now. Ray is one of our beloved all time greatest. THANKS RAY
Ray was way better (technical yet smooth) than I remember. Maybe even underrated. To be that technical with that much style was extremely rare. And with that much emotional maturity is unheard of.
I speculate that he was underrated because he was associated with the older school of street skating, even though he was always on the cutting edge and actively progressing skating. The other thing was that he wasn't on a 'cool' board brand and so didn't get the kind of video exposure other pros got, and videos were (almost) everything then. It may also have to do with him being religious, but I have no evidence of that besides knowing how uncool that was in skateboarding in the 90s.
Yeah this kept showing up in my feed, and I thought, not another 90s video that shows how far the skating has progressed, but this was better than a lot of the current videos. For some reason I never realized how advanced his skill was back when I was skating and this was brand new. Kick flip to blunt side, frontside blunt to heel flips, that’s crazy 😝
Not only was he at the forefront of modern street like Frankie and the LA boys and H-street in the late 80's, he survived the 92 flippity dip no-style era and carried forward into the next century with a smile on his face. He could easily have been a leader with the World-Blind-Girl angry hip-hop dynasty, but chose the positive, light side and continues to find and share joy and self expression. A gentleman through and through; maybe more of us should try relaxing and smiling while skating.
The last time I watch Ray footage was on VHS 411vm and he sang some "Power Lines" song long time ago. Dang who knew Ray got so big n tech with the same smoooveness. Sleepin on my man!
Wow. Ray really is one of the best to ever do it. Kickflips into everything, all those 360 kf and hf variations, straight fs shove over a bench on flat is so difficult. Cheers, Ray! Thanks for the inspiration!
I am sorry, Ray. It was only a few years ago when Tony mentioned you in an interview as being one of the greatest of all time that I had to go back and think--because I remember when you came out--and, you know what? he was 100% right. I apologize for underrating you for so long. You are definitely up there with and even beyond Hensley and whoever else we praise from that whole era. And you're still here! (Hensley, amazing as he was, is not.) I won't say too much. Everyone in the comments is already saying it all: style plus tech in a way never duplicated; quite possibly the best no-comply of all time; so cool, consistent, and down-to-earth; etc., etc., etc. Thank you. You were/are an inspiration.
For as much as skating has progressed, watching old parts remind you how little it has changed. Fads come and go but don't forget that dudes were flipping in and flipping out of grinds 30 years ago.
man....Ray looks so good on a skateboard....anything this guy does on a board is just pure gold....im still trippin on how pimp his part in ban this is...just no complys and shuvits look so good...360 backside no comply with the arms down and all mellow...soooo good
I met Ray today at All City church (Joe Gruber, pastor) in Portland. I told him that I started rolling my jeans up after his first video part came out and he laughed. Super nice dude, super smooth and super talented. You rip Ray!
Another quick note about the trick tip at 3:12; I think this was the first issue of 411, deep in the land of slo-mo sketch flip, and his superior tech and style were still shining through. Especially that frontside flip down the bank, better than even Koston at the time imho. I also notice he never got into the clown clothes everyone else (including me haha) were wearing. Class act all the way
Rodney and Daewon were busy doing tech tricks on the picnic tables and Ray Barbee comes along and just does a gigantic frontside flip over the entire thing that Tom Penny would be proud of
Not only he is a skateboarding legend but also an incredibly underrated musician/guitarist. His musical style is equally as influential!
We need him in the 9 club podcast
Indeed he is.
One of the most stylish just free flowing skaters to ever be
Did he do the biggest gnarlist tricks? nope, but what he did do was smooth as fuck, no other skater came close to him when it came to style
Ho yeah ! Stylish !
@@X-101 Fuck shit , yeah !
This honestly puts a smile on my face. Ray is the man, thanks Sneep!
Una gran sonrisa
Ray of light Barbee showing kids from day one you can be kind and positive, and still make your mark 💜
Ray of Light Barbee--perfect.
easily more inspirational than 90% of the stuff that comes out these days
When I was growing up, Ray Barbee was, without question, my favorite skater.
one the all-time greats. proves that style means everything.
That frontside kickflip 360 ramp to ramp, perfection.
Yes it was! I was there. Portland, OR. skate church
That 360 double kick flip on that hip was sick too
This human being is what everyone should be….. creative through and through. My favorite skater for the last 20 years ❤️
We need him in the 9 club

Much love from Afghanistan
Well done! This encompasses everything I love about skateboarding.
Soul father of skateboarding. Humbly innovated lines, polite style and a fluid energy.
Ray Barbee is incredibly underrated! His part in Ban This is still one of my favorites of all time
He's universally adored.
Subestimado!? Cualquiera que tenga un poco de idea sabe que es una jodida leyenda...subestimado dice 😅
One of the meanest front heels in the game...love his timeless style

Ray Barbee is the reason I learned no complies. Still can't do the Backside 360 ones but one day
This gave me the chills how good it was. Same with his music. Amazing stuff. I love it ❤️
The smoothness of some tricks is just adorable.
This is definitely a way to give someone their flowers while they’re still here. This was incredible. 🙏🏾❤️
Legend. Such great style.

Big 🗣️ S/O to Jan Marten for this treat. Thanks! ✌️
I have always loved Ray Barbee’s attitude and flow. Seems like a real positive guy
Gotta love Ray, such a good person.
You can't help but get a good feeling inside when he speaks and skates. A real genuine dude. Love good ol'Ray. Style, smile, for miles and miles. 🙏

@@dannyblitz2122 Well said. His footage really shows how advanced he was even compared to "cool guys".

Oh wow, this is so beautiful, so much Love init.
First skate poster I ever had Ray Barbee kick flip wall ride for a vans ad. Thank you Ray.
The most beautifulest Ray Barbee Homage Edit ever!!!❤️🤙🏾👍🏾 Well done!
Just beautiful.
My number 1 fave skater of all time followed by Daewon, Guy Mariano and Rodney Mullen.
Barbee was my skate camp counselor at Visalia back in 94 or 95....dude was super cool and down to earth. Good times.
This made me happy
Ray is so easy to sleep on because his style & vibes are like water.
Truly one of the skater of all time
Ray Barbee always puts out the best vibes. I always get the best feeling watching his videos. God bless whoever uploaded this.

A Truly LEGEND and a big influence in my skateboarding since the early days
Raw talent and so much style
That front 3 from driveway to driveway 🔥
hometown hero stuff💪🏽💪🏽
Steeze to the max
One of the best videos I've seen this entire week! Loved it so much!
one of the bests parts i ve ever seen. Thanks for that Ray!
The last time I watch Ray footage was on VHS 411vm and he sang some "Power Lines" song long time ago. Dang who knew Ray got so big n tech with the same smoooveness. Sleepin on my man!

I loved watching this guy in videos growing up in the mid 90's. Such a ripper!
Greatest still. Soo easy on the eyes
His skating is like music. Will always be one of my favorites.

An awesomely stylish goat.
Ray is pure inspiration to watch
This guy clearly invented the backside 360 Ollie. Also that front 3 kickflip was next level
For as much as skating has progressed, watching old parts remind you how little it has changed. Fads come and go but don't forget that dudes were flipping in and flipping out of grinds 30 years ago.
I absolutely love these; the vibe is real! Freedom, Fun , Friends
this vid made me happy
So good, and beautiful edit
man....Ray looks so good on a skateboard....anything this guy does on a board is just pure gold....im still trippin on how pimp his part in ban this is...just no complys and shuvits look so good...360 backside no comply with the arms down and all mellow...soooo good

His ban this part was a game changer💣💥
As a kid, we all emulated his style
This is so special.
Damn Ray still ripping. The no comply king! Public domain part was the raddest 🙌🔥
I met Ray today at All City church (Joe Gruber, pastor) in Portland. I told him that I started rolling my jeans up after his first video part came out and he laughed. Super nice dude, super smooth and super talented. You rip Ray!
The greatest ever....
Hell yeah, so much progressive skateboarding. Much props for finding all the bits and pieces in the 411s👏
For sure one of the Best and Smooth Styles Ever!!!
Love this dude. Incredible style.
Awesome style and always has a smile 🤙🏼
Seriously such an amazing compilation
Nice, we all spent weeks learning all of the no comply variations when Ray’s section came out. Such good styles
Aw man. Right in the nostalgias.
bs 360 no comply was unreal. honestly have never seen half this footage this guy was a true legend. really humble
2:27 my man just frontside 360 kickflipped a spine! Never knew that had gone down!
Definite legend
ahead of his time.
1:39 HOLY SHIIIIT THAT WAS SMOOOTH
Most def. Barbee been havin' 'em 360's on lock. 💯 FS & BS.

this got me quite emotional
That can’t stop the firm era stuff mid way thru this aged super well
Skateboarding with smile
Legend 🙌🏻
Seems like he was tech at the time when not a lot of people were tech. Still looke smooth though.
Beautiful.
Rodney and Daewon were busy doing tech tricks on the picnic tables and Ray Barbee comes along and just does a gigantic frontside flip over the entire thing that Tom Penny would be proud of
Nice work. Timeless skateboarding
Can't get tired watching him
Fluid! Got that freaky flow
