The fact this special is going to be an hour and not longer really begs the question. "Is it a true Midwest Goodbye?"
It was a 10 minute routine
mmmmbye.
It was only supposed to be 1/2 hour. That's when he says, " well, I suppose."
Ha ha ha 😂
@ArchDud3 nice
I can't wait. Should have named it "deer" so you could tell people to watch out for it.
Haha.
That's funny
That's gotta be the name of the next special, for sure.
dang, I wish I thought of that
Perfect!

I was born and raised in Manitowoc first 20 years. Now living in Rocky Mtns. I miss the old home town, dontchaknow
Born and raised in Southern Ontario, I know I'm gonna miss it when i move up north lol
I was born in Ashland, WI, but raised in Bemidji, MN. Now living in California, I always come to his channel for a taste of home. Love it.
I was born and raised in Wisconsin Rapids Wis and now live in Ohio
Charlie is having a moment and I am here for it

Gonna be a fun ride to watch

@@CharlieBerens are you a sea turtle?
Follow along with the closed captioning and you'll get a different show 🤣 🤣
I'm from Southern Appalachia . I met a Midwesterner once at a four-way stop . We both almost died of starvation . Thankfully somebody from Chicago came by and we ate them 🤣
As somebody from Chicago, I can confirm that this was the appropriate response.
That took a hard left turn…
I grew up in Central WI and now I've lived in East TN for over a decade. The biggest real difference between the two is that down here, all the cows have legs shorter on one side than the other because it's all hills.
Southern Appalachians are the Eastern version of midwesterners.
Sincerely, someone from Southern Appalachia.
The only thing chicagoans are good for
I am from MN and went to undergrad in WI. I did not realize how great the Midwest was and how lucky I was to grow up there until I left and lived in other parts of the country and in other countries. I ended up going to grad school in MN and settling in MN and after living in a number of places, I thought I wanted to live in other parts of the country and world, I realized I missed the Midwest. It’s not the weather I missed, it was the people. Love WI, IA, ND, SD and Minnesotans. ND and WI by far ( other than MN people) are my favorites. In grad school I experienced my longest MN goodbyes from my ND buddy. Literally , I would be trying to leave at 1 or 2 AM and I would get out of there by 6 AM. Nuts. I have never met a ND person I did not like who wasn’t really nice and decent and that is saying something. There is just something special about the Midwest. They don’t push politics or religion on you. The people are nice and no one cares what you drive or if your car is dirty. It’s not materialistic . WI is especially wild. I always explain to people, living in the south there are churches everywhere ( I spent some time in MS) in WI it is bars everywhere. In the middle of nowhere, there’s a bar. Haha. Good people, truly decent people come from the Midwest. That’s not to say decent people aren’t in other places, the South has good people too and all over the place, there are just a higher percentage of them in the Midwest in my experience. Great special!
You are 100% correct! I’m from MN, lived in ND AND now in a different western state, ND is by far the best state in the nation for every reason you listed! I miss Midwest nice and simple nice folks it’s just different. People, mostly my wife, has multiple times sat through a Midwest goodbye between me and someone Walmart, only to have me end it with oh I’m, John, btw nice to meet you , hand shake! First time it happened she goes WTF you didn’t know him! You literally talked about families and holidays lol. 😂. I can’t help it!
Native Minnesotan here. Goodness. This is fantastic. I use your videos to educate my British partner on my culture.
ROFLLL Bruh this is honestly beautiful! I have been watching Charlie as a way of better understanding my midwestern roots!
Shout out to all those people who have to experience the Midwest Goodbye on the phone. My mom will say bye, and you're about to hang up and she'll say "oh yeah one more thing". Every.time.without.fail.
oh yeah one more thing...gets ya every time!
It’s also a Jewish goodbye found in New York and south Florida
Midwest moms are like the Colombo's of keeping you in the phone with that "just one more thing"
Any of you have a mother who will call to update you on people you haven't seen or thought of in decades? Like people who went to church with your grandparents.
@@RabidHappy oh you know them, the Davis's! They were your third cousin's Sunday School teachers at St. Stephens!
It's so amazing that this Midwest goodbye isn't just my families personal dysfunction. I swear goodbye takes minimum half an hour.
I've been just video chatting with friends on discord before, at midnight said I needed to be up at 7, gotta go.
2:30 am rolls by...
Killer. Catholic family from rural Illinois and this hits hard. My ex mechanic buddy will lean in my window and I have to start driving away with him still hanging on a little to leave after 6 hours and I usually leave with spare meat from the garage freezer.
this man deserves a Netlfix special
Netflix only likes dirty comedy
I am convinced that Midwest and Maine humor, mannerisms, dialect, slang, are almost the same because I understand 99% of these jokes and I love it.
I am from Wisconsin. I think we are a lot alike
Love your comedic niche man, its gold. You know exactly the type of humor to use for us Midwesterners but also keep it good for 'out of towners', and you're only going to get better!
Hey I appreciate you saying that ! More to come
@@CharlieBerens Thanks, Loved intro joke about the Blanes Farm and Fleet, Kwik Trip and Culvers, I know when I am In Wisconsin (Lived in Madison area formerly Middelton from 1991 to end of 2000 age 2--13) when I see a an old style small Kwik Trip, hear a Blanes Farm and Fleet ad on the radio, and see the ad for a Culvers or at least on the signs with food, hotel/motel, and gas see a Culvers as well as possibly a Kwik Trip. In fact last time though Wisconsin even though my mom is not from Wisconsin She filled up/stopped mainly in the smaller Kwik trips two or three times due to how they had less tourist people at them as they were a little bit off the main Highway 14 for travel in the small towns. Though one stop was at a Loves just outside Chicago Illinois just into Wisconsin due to how she knows that one has good for Gas station Coffee. We did a mistake and got lost in one part in the Wisconsin Dells in the most touristy part near all the Duck boat operators just before the turnoff to get to the place with the Tommy Bartlet water show. Currently living in South Dakota where for once I can in last few years get a Statewide beer that is made well, still like the Leinenkugel's and seasonal stuff though.
I don’t think it’s niche. I am from Poland, I have never been in the US, let alone Midwest.
When it’s funny, it’s funny :)
@@TheSiemek No this is definitely very niche within the US, to put it bluntly aimed at the middle aged white folk from the Midwest, PG rated family friendly, talking about things unique to the Midwest particularly Wisconsin. As someone who didn't grow up in the Midwest (Also not white) lot of this stuff is alien to me, i can tell you not everyone would be into this type of comedy (nothing wrong with that). I personally like it though since I've been following Charlie for a while on CZcams, i like seeing and learning about the different regions of the US and charlies stuff is very informative of the Midwest vibe n lifestyle.
@@brownjatt21 having been born and raised in the Midwest rural area, I can personally say and attest to the fact that Charlie is spot on. Many of us can relate to what he says and his timing and the way he tells it is wonderful and uniquely his own. .
After my fiance passed away, you were a big part of my healing process Thank ya chuck I love ya man! #KEEPerMovin Midwest in the house
God bless you and your family.
Great job Charlie. Thanks for making this Midwesterner laugh.
Oh yah bud
what the fuck? people can now super chat in comment section?
@ 16:06 that was my experience in beautiful Cali. It was a nice day that brought a smile to my face and a hop in my step, but waving to people was clearly weird.

ah cripes I appreciate you

Same 😂
I thought h1tler attacked you guys glad you're here though!
This special is proof that you can be funny without every other word being the F bomb.
Also is the humor of the great Jim Gaffigan 😊
It’s a miracle his comedy exists
Nate Bargatze is also proof 😊😊
And Brian Regan
Honestly, this wasn't that funny. I hear people mentioning Jim Gaffigan. Let's not compare them please.
His skits (Charlie's) on CZcams are absolute gold but the standup really wasn't very funny. He got a lot of the applause because the silence just begged to be filled with laughter and applause. That's what happens when you pause for 8-10 seconds every 3 or 4 minutes. The audience just claps and laughs because it's awkward not to. I'm sure he is a great dude, he seems really nice but this wasn't funny to me. Maybe a little bit funny. But I'm also not from Wisconsin and when I realized about 25 minutes in that the entire special was about saying words funny, I had to bail.
I’m from Valparaiso and LOVE that this vasectomy clinic sign is immortalized with this show - thanks, Charlie! The clinic is visible on a main highway, and it’s always fun seeing the never-ending special since before Y2K 😂
I’m from Michigan City! Howdy neighbor
That and Accent Dental are classics
Comedy gold. So many relatable references. I have extra rhubarb in the freezer!
you gonna make a pie or muffins with it?
@@CharlieBerens rhubarb sauce with white ice cream (which is what my dad always called vanilla ice cream) Stop by and have some next time you're in town.
O.m.g. The Rhubarb!!Gotta use it up. I have to make room in my chest freezer. Can't decide what 'bakery' to make & take to the potluck.
Love that charlie wasnt afraid to tackle some touchier subjects knowing that he was gonna be talking to the most midwest audience possible
LOL - you came for the Vikings EARLY in your set 🤣 (but you had every right to)
I am Canadian and this all still hits a little too close to home. So many parallels between our people.
"C*nadian people" is an oxymoron.
Whatever is happening, Charlie's comedy lifts me up. I appreciate the relevant and clean comedy.. A unique gift we all need.
I'm so happy for this guy. He deserves it.
The Midwest goodbye is such a true thing. Especially when it's the holidays.
Charlie is as good as most stars of Hollywood comedies. They need to discover him
💯
I completely disagree. Charlie Berens is so much better than most of those corrupted Hollywood hacks. They should not “discover” him lest they defile him.
Doin plenty good on his own bud
….I mean u guys already all know each other truly 😅 whether we know or not
Thank you Charlie. Watching this in Tokyo and laughing uncontrollably… I feel the judgement but like you said it’s hard to remove the Midwest outta of person.
Same, but in Kyushu.
People in Massachusetts call it a bubbler, too! My uncle moved out there and was fascinated by the Boston dialect! Always has amusing stories when he visits us in Michigan. :)
Grew up in Michigan, went to grad school in Milwaukee. Friggin love Charlie.
Perfect - just in time for the giant ass snow storm - dontyaknow
yeah I just got done with shoveling round 1
@@CharlieBerens Wait a minute - isn't it a misdeamonor to not own a snowblower in Wisconsin?
I moved out to Iowa from Northern California last year. It’s been the first time I have experienced five different kinds of snow storms
Charlie my dad is still back in Wisconsin and days he met you once. He's a state trooper, so I'm hoping it wasn't when he was on duty! The whole family loves your stuff.
I moved from the Chicago suburbs (near the dreaded Naperville 😂) to the Boston area last week… and my Mom is back in Wisconsin.
Here I am now watching this special for probably a fourth time. 🥹🥰 You are like a care package from home to us Midwesties ❤❤❤
THANK YOU CHARLIE!!!!
As a Yooper who visited Wisconsin regularly for many years, Charlie is so spot on in this special 😂
There’s a big blizzard outside right now here in Appleton, so I fired up the grill, threw on a few brats, and stood outside watching the snow blow with a beer in my hand. I’m a Wisco boy through and through…
So much of this humor relates to us up here in the rural northeast as well.
You're a treasure, Charlie. Thank you.
Country folk in the NW also
This was HILARIOUS!!!!!! I'm a native Midwesterner and my husband isn't, and he laughed especially hard at the 'bag' pronunciation. He always gives me a hard time about it and I have no idea I'm pronouncing it any differently!! I'm sad we weren't able to go to the La Crosse shows, I hope you do another tour soon!
A large chunk of my childhood was spent growing up in Kiel and I'll never forget the confused looks I got in basic training when I called it a bubbler. Having moved away after high school your work always brings me back to that culture and moment in my life. Thanks for this!
There are weird pockets where Kohler sold tons of bubbler water fountains (see what I did there? 😉) And they still call them bubblers too. Large parts of the Boston metro area call them bubblers too
@@adamwhite2364 Yep... I was confused when I was in that area and _they knew what I meant_ ! One of my best friends lives out there and I love him and the area.
My grandpa is a born and raised Washingtonian but has all the mannerisms of a Midwesterner. The whole Midwest goodbye was so real with that man.
I went to one of your shows and I don't know if my family has ever laughed as hard as we did there
Dood I wanna say thank you so much for being a good human being. You're special just gave me the best experience I have had in a whole minute. What you bring to this world is More than a blessing 🙏 it's a miracle.
This was a nice belated birthday present. I was in a really down place 😞 and then this came up on my notifications and I listened and laughed so hard. It brought me back to a very happy place ☺️ thanks, Charlie
If aliens came to earth and I had to choose someone that would represent the average midwest guy, it would be you. You are really funny and you make the most relatable videos ever!
thank you! If you see any aliens tell em I says hi now
@Charlie Berens this needs to be a video.
@@CharlieBerens I agree with @mmmpsghetti (did I spell it right!?) This is a great idea, Midwesterner meets Martians! What happens at that traffic circle! 👽✌️😸
Much love from NorCal!💜♾️
Ps. Vacaville has the great abomination of a traffic circle, which is more like a trapezoid or something.
Edit: Leisure Town at Vanden, Foxboro Pkwy/Vanden is psycho. Just checked, didn't realize I was trapped in a double traffic circle! 🤯
@@eiloen I second this as hard as I can.
Sure makes me miss Wisconsin........and the Old Style Lager beer and the deep fried cheese curds !!
And all my crazy beer drinking relatives.
Washington is a very boring state😂
I just love that one lady laughing her arse off and its contagious. 😂
I didn’t know I had a Wisconsin accent until I moved to Colorado in the winter of 98’. I got a job at the Safeway and was thirsty so I asked my manager where the bubbler was. Apparently this gave me away because she insisted it was called a water fountain. What?? You mean like those statues in the middle of West Towne Mall? I would never drink from that!
The Senator in the bathroom reference will go over the heads of all the zoomers and younger millennials. He’s just got a wide stance!
Please bring back the Manitowoc Minute! I miss it dearly.
I am originally from the Milwaukee area and moved to "enemy" territory (Illinois) when I was in 6th grade. Your humor Charlie brings back so many memories. I saw you in Joliet and can't wait until I can see you live in person again. In the meantime, this is perfect! Continued success!!
Joliet? The Rialto? Born and raised there, left decades ago for a job in California. The Midwest goodbye isn’t tolerated there. A move to Colorado brought me closer to the Midwest goodbye because of so many transplanted Midwesterners. Another move to Arizona brought me further from it. As I near retirement, it appears that Midwesterners move to Florida.
You're the best Charles bringing Midwest humor to all us. Tell your folks I says hi. 🎉❤
Its great to see Charlie succeeding. Well deserved 👏
I'm a US West Coast city person and I LOVE his jokes. We all know and love some Midwesterners. It's a little rough listening since nearly all the jokes were from videos he already gave us.
He is giving it all away for free.
Come on Charlie. How can I watch the premier on ash Wednesday if I can't have a brew in hand because it's a fasting day...☹️☹️😆😆😆
Shoot I wasn't thinkin, did ya get your ash to mass or no?

Oh ja, the wine story. I always figured he needed it to put up with the relatives! LOL Thanks for the laughs. You do the midwest proud doncha know.
The next book needs to be Bible Stories with Charlie. I would LOVE to read those lol
Charlie just makes life better. Such accurate observations on life in the Midwest and Great Lakes region - and on being raised in a large Catholic family. Thank you!
Charlie, I really cannot say this enough, you are hilarious!!! My entire family knows you and although we weren't there for the show, after watching it on CZcams, I feel like I was actually there. Charlie, thank you. Thank you for being the voice of the Midwest. I never realized how similar we all are, I didn't even know that 'Ope' was in my dictionary until I found you that's how bad it was. But now, I am more educated about the Midwest, as well as the amazing folks who live in it. Also, gotta say, I am just a tiiiiiny bit disappointed that Myles didn't make an appearance. Bellied Up has to be one of if not my absolute favorite podcast! Huh, this comment is getting a little long... Welp, I s'pose.
When a lived in San Diego my co- workers used to ask me to say "bagel" all the time. They said my accent was cute, and I was in denial that I had an accent being from Minnesota. Bag ... I get it now! Lmao! 😂
"Born Catholic, Raised Guilty" So perfect!
Loved the set Charlie! Great job! Also the fact that Charlie has responded to so many comments strikes me as such a polite, Midwesterner thing to do, and I've never even been to that part of your country 😆
Congrats and keep it coming!

A real pleasure to watch this. Charlie on top of his game as he truly deserves. Can't wait for more, and hopefully Philadelphia will get a taste on his next (first?) tour. Cheers, mate. You're on top of the world...
Edit: After the "hitting the deer" story you should pull an Oprah: "And that deer we turned into jerky, and if you look under your seats tonight, you will find a small box with pieces of that deer jerky!!!"
I was suppose to go to your performance in Marshfield on NOv. 9th. Instead I got a ticket to visit the throne on a regular basis if you know what I mean. So I am here trying to assuage my sad feelings at missing your show. I made my hubby go and so he had a real good time with his daughter and daughter in law and it all turned out good. Love ya Charlie. Hey tell your folks I says Hi.
Wisconsin has the only rest stop I've ever seen as an OTR trucker that wanted me to separate my recycling. My theory is that they were trying to dip into my bag of bags supply. 😂
As if the show wasn’t perfection, the auction to benefit local charities at the end was such a kind gesture. Watch the video until the end. So cute & what a terrific show. Thank you for sharing your talent.
Hubby and I are watching this. I have not seen Hubby laugh so hard, and he has never been to the Midwest. Thank you very much for bringing the laughs to our living room tonight, and tell yur folks I saz hi.

im from Newfounland Canada, which has a very different culture to the rest of Canada, exhibit a) is that this is the most relatable video ive EVER seen on the internet, everything from the oddly similar dialect and accent, to the over-hospitality hospitality, i was dying of laughter thru it all👍👍
Newfies are the best! It's the Wisconsin of Canada. I was there on a work trip and was waiting for the guy next to me to run low on his beer before I offered to buy him one. Didn't want to inconvenience his drinking schedule. We still talk to this day!
