Recorded January 2, 2010 at Rocky Sullivans of Red Hook. I have taped the band playing this many times , but I think that this is by far the best version.
I used to watch Seanchai play almost every Friday at Rocky Sullivans for years. Man were they good... everyone was SO good at what they did. There was also this other guy that used to sing a few songs with them occasionally, I can't remember his name but man was he amazing at singing too. I randomly thought of this song this morning, I'm glad I found this.
Ah wow. I used to spend most of my days at Rocky Sullivans back in the late 90's. Left NY in 2000 and miss all this the most. Thank you for putting these videos up, mate.
Why does this here performance move me the way that it does? There is something so soulful and real about the sound and emotion on every single listen! Did I miss my chance to see this great band? From the countryside outside Seattle, I send a comrade-salute to local NY fan Jill Dowling for bringing this video to my eyes and ears some years ago. I'm a believer!
Great to see international support and compassion for our republican struggle, may God bless you x. By a lonely prison wall, I heard a young man calling Nothing matters, Mary, when you're free Against the famine and the Crown, I rebelled, they cut me down. Now you must raise our child with dignity. Low lie the fields of Athenry Where once we watched the small free birds fly. (oh baby let the freebirds fly) Our love was on the wing, we had dreams and songs to sing. (Sinn Féin) It's so lonely 'round the fields of Athenry. (I.R.A) By a lonely harbor wall, she watched the last star falling As that prison ship sailed out against the sky Sure she'll wait and hope and pray, for her love in Botany Bay It's so lonely 'round the fields of Athenry.
