    I became aware of this product after binge watching this channel. My GF and me both purchased one shortly after. It's a really nice product, the only gripe I have is that when I set an alarm, it's displayed as AM/PM. I would have much preferred Millitary time options too.

      @@drdj69 It does display the 24 hour format, the same as my phone setting, on the clock face. It’s just when you try to set the alarm when it’s always PM/AM. I never use that format so would prefer to be able to set the alarm in the same 24 hour format.

    I belong to a very nieche customer group and am very pleased to hear that Wakey has a real FM receiver as opposed to DAB radio. I heard it's also possible to use the radio as the wake up sound. With this setup, do you know if it starts the radio at your chosen volume setting or does it start from zero, slowly rising to your desired volume?

    • @insidetechltd

    • @insidetechltd
      @insidetechltd  Před 4 lety +1

      Thanks a lot! To be honest, at the rate technology moves forwards, there's constantly something new being released. So really I think you've got to look at what the current device has, and see if you can pinpoint any specific features you wanted it to have that are missing - weigh this up against the price and then make a decision. If you're happy with everything it does for the price it currently is, then go for it!
      To answer more directly though, I'm not aware of anything that's of better value right now - but I tend to find with Anker / Soundcore you get pretty good value, i've always liked dealing with them

    Can you set music from Spotify or Apple music to wake up to?

    • @insidetechltd
      @insidetechltd  Před 4 lety

      No. The options are FM radio or one of the clock’s tones.
      There may be a workaround to this if your phone has an app that outputs alarm tones through a connected audio output device i.e. if you left your phone plugged in via an aux cable overnight and the alarm app you use (that plays Spotify/Apple Music) outputs the tone through the connected speaker. I’ll be honest though, I doubt that this would work as most alarm apps don’t let you do this.

    • @potaterjim
      @potaterjim Před 3 lety +1

      @@insidetechltd This is my big issue as well. It's _shockingly_ hard to find an alarm clock that let you choose the music. I've been using an ihome ipod dock for like 6 years now, waking up hassle free to whatever music I wanted on my ancient, cracked ipod touch, but the docking connector finally bit the dust.
      I've been trying to find a suitable replacement, and I was hopeful upon seeing all these nifty qi charging options, figured I'd be able to free up some cord clutter around my nightstand. I found a 90$ bluetooth ihome clock that purported to let me wake up to my music via bluetooth, but found that it constantly desynchs from bluetooth after about 5 minutes, which makes it a 90$ standard buzzer alarm clock...
      It's been extremely aggravating. How is it that we live in the era of voice controlled thermostats and toasters, but no one has made a hybrid mp3 player/alarm clock? And who on earth still listens to _radio_ when we've got so many options? Like, _you know, internet radio_

      I think the most popular competitor is Amazon's Echo range. They have some larger ones now with the clock face, and of course with Alexa built in, they have lots of smart features. You can set multiple alarms with them and have access to various music and radio streaming content. No wireless charger though, which in a bedside clock is ideal, I find. I've still not seen many big name brands releasing these - that's why i've been so pleased with Wakey, to be honest. Lenovo has a competitor to Echo with a larger display and some bedtime features (like slowly brightening the display with the alarm to wake you), so that may be worth a look!

This is the kind of information that people like to know..

    • @insidetechltd
      @insidetechltd  Před 4 lety

      I'm not really sure what you mean. To use any of the features, the speaker needs to be plugged in - it is not portable. I didn't mention how long it takes to charge your phone because it depends on what you phone you have, doesn't it? I can't possibly test every single phone and give that information. Different phones will have different battery capacities, different cooling systems and will trigger the overheating threshold at different times, it depends on whether or not you're using a case (and the type of case)...there are just too many factors so I couldn't possibly say. I have a question regarding the connectivity, if I am to use this as a main pc speaker, in what order will it play the sound from? AUX first then bluetooth?
    In my use case, i want to have an aux cable plugged in, but this will only be used when the computer is on, and bluetooth from my phone when the PC is off.

With the aux cable plugged in you can listen that way, and then whenever you want bluetooth mode you just manually connect then with your phone. The snooze button being the entire panel is a deal breaker for me. Heaven forbid anyone makes an alarm clock without a snooze.

      No. When not plugged in it just has a reserve battery to keep the current time, but it is not usable as a speaker

      @@insidetechltd It puts out radiation. About as much as a phone. And we still don't know the long term effect of what smart phones could cause. It's still new. Did you know that the receiver of car phones in the 80's were put in the trunk to keep it as far as possible from the user? Not as strong as getting an x-ray but even then you try not to get many of them and you wear a protective vest. Heck, even the person who gives you your x-ray stands behind a wall because they do it often. Anyway, why take a risk when you don't have to?

    • @insidetechltd
      @insidetechltd  Před 3 lety

      You’re right, we don’t know the long term effects specifically from smartphone use, but we do already have the data for long term exposure to the same electromagnetic radiation - and it’s safe. Also a comparison to X-ray radiation doesn’t give you any useful data. The difference in the frequencies of these two types of radiation are massively different (it’s no way near to x-rays).
      By all means, keep doing what you’re doing though! The worst thing that can happen is you’re not running any risk 🤷‍♂️ so I’m not gonna knock anyone for being cautious or sensible. Just make sure you enjoy your life (and tech) too! ☺️
