19:23 "Over in the West, there's a lot of water...it's called the Atlantic" 😆 That really tickled me with Alex injecting a good dollop of sarcasm! Another great Deep Dive, love tuning in.
Love the deep dive. After a lifetime of watching the TV weather forecast I'm finally getting a better understanding of what causes and effects our weather
Yes and it’s not human caused.
The river Thames has changed massively since the Great Drought of 1326. Are you trying to make a point about man made global warming? @@MrRaffles1234
...and lung cancer isn't caused by cigarettes either and the moon landing was a hoax and its made of cheese.@@puffingtonsmythe8690
I watched two workman wearing full boiler suits working for hours on scaffolding in the blazing heat. They had my full admiration.
pretty badass.
id hate to be a welder in this heat 😐
Deep dive is a must view every week now. I've always enjoyed weather forecasts but the presentation of the deep dive is on a whole new, level. Absolutely enthralling, thank you.
Brilliant do appreciate the work that goes into educating us non met heads! Thank you.
Tuesdays woudn't be the same now without an episode of Deep Dive, It's My tuesday Meterology Lesson. Thanks Alex and team - you're providing a marvelous service.
I'm absolutely obsessed with weather, always have been. At 73 I've seen quite a lot of it and I did ask for longer and better forecasts on the BBC but hey ho, and never watch it now anyway! So seeing Met Office my old neighbour before I moved to Argyll produce such great Deep Dives and forecasts is marvellous. One thing I'd like to see is an expansion of the Scotoand forecasts because we don't get a mention and they're too short! Thanks to all of you and especially young Jonathan who is a joy to watch. Wouldn't it be nice to know more about the presenters interests and past jobs perhaps 5 minutes each now and then?
I am now 75 and became so interested in meteorology at just 14 my parents bought me weather station. Yes very basic in 1962. This included a mercury max min thermometer with little pins to reset with a magnet. I had a wall graph chart where I plotted the temperatures in Norwich. Still to this day have books on weather like "Understanding Weather" and clouds.
Oh my, this is a masterclass in thunderstorm formation! Absolutely fascinating, and very educative stuff (especially the medicane that is currently soaking Greece....but putting forest fires out). Thank you so much for another brilliant Deep Dive!
Best presenter on the channel. Greetings from south-east Poland!
Absolutely fascinating Deep Dive, thank you Alex and the team - I always learn so much from these. Really hoping for a much-needed "thundery breakdown" after this spell of hot and humid weather⛈⛈⛈
Of course a heatwave happens right as the schools reopen! Another fantastic deep dive and lots of useful information that I continue to learn even though I've been fascinated by weather and meteorology ever since a young age. Appreciate what you guys do, keep up the excellent work.
It has been notable this year the timing of the worst weather this summer with the school holidays. You couldn't do a better job of trolling the school children and their parents if you tried.
Brilliant explanations as usual. I liked the coinage Septemperature. I liked being termed a Methead as well. I’ve been one since I was ten and was taken to the London weather centre and met Bert Foord. I helped at school with opening up the Stevenson screen and noting down the readings. Please continue these wonderful deep dives. There is nothing else like this available. You are keeping the met office at the forefront of public service and the most trusted weather service in the world.
'...there's a lot of water. It's called the Atlantic.' Love it!
I personally hate this heat , clothes stuck to you , sweat every time you move , can’t sleep , it’s uncomfortable, can’t wait for autumn to properly kick in , cooler temperatures, darker days is what suits me .
Buy a fan! 😢
Well I’m loving it ❤❤🌞🌞
You won't have to wait long really.
I have to say this is my usual view as i’ve spent the last 30 years living in N. Yorkshire and York can get very humid. However i moved to SW Scotland in January. And the summer we’ve had (apart from July) was absolutely beautiful it is going to be sticky tomorrow. I hope we get a thunderstorm. ❤
Its only going to get worse. Brace for impact.
Dearest Alex thankyou so very much for our deep dive weather forecast I love the heat as it helps with my several different kinds of arthritis, & dread it when the rains come back! Plus it does help out as we all don't need to put on our central heating system , plus it's great for drying our washing to & know need to have our washing dried in our tumble dryer so that helps with our electricity bill, 🎉Thankyou for giving us an indeapth understanding of what's going on all around the atmosphere, & the way your teaching us all how to understanding about the global climate as a whole our planet is very important to us all ! So we do appreciate everything that you all do for us @ the met office you all work so hard to help us & keep us all educated! We'll done ❤😊 all my best wishes from Linda Dunn from Newport Shropshire UK! Xxx❤😊
Bad news!Looking forward to the end of this heatwave, I feel very uncomfortable, UK summers have always been hot and very humid, horrible!
One of my weekly must-watches. The team do a great job explaining what is happening, what might happen and why it may or may not happen....👍
Love the description of why the UK is so warm. I can actually picture the atmosphere and how that warm air is being drawn up from the South (Southern Europe / Africa), due to that high and low pressure slowly rotating. Pushing air North.
When you start to look at weather patterns in this way, it makes so much sense.
We can have sunny and calm weather across the board in the UK, but it can be much cooler, because the air is being drawn in from the North instead. The rotation is different so air pushes South.
So, on that note, I may be wrong, but if we had the position of the high and low reversed, so the low was over Europe and the high off the coast of Portugal, we would still be sunny, but much cooler?
Whether that type of weather pattern is typical for this time of year or not, I don't know.
Makes complete sense to me visually - and on such a vast scale. Quite mind-boggling.
I'm trying to picture gears rotating in water, looking down on them from above. If one on the left is rotating clockwise and one on the right anti-clockwise, water will be sucked through from the bottom.
The other way around, from the top. I think. 😆
This guy is very good at using the screen!
Fantastic report. This should be on TV
Top notch stuff. Well done indeed. Technology has come a long way, but it’s nice to see a meteorologist with such intrinsic passion as Aidan, almost on a par with Tamasz Schafanachker who is by far the most believable weather presenter at the moment. He always remains calm in a storm. Just my view. 🙂
I absolutely hate this heat and humidity! It’s so very interesting so thank you team!
An actual passionate meteorologist. Very informative; extra-extra.
I think I've learned more about meteorology in that one deep dive than 30 years of watching the TV. Fantastically presented, you guys should consider making some documentaries - hour long series on weather systems, climate change etc. Mix on the ground exploration, with historical aspects, etc. Keep up the great work Alex and team.
I'll help script it :)
Educational excellence. Thank you. :)
Excellent coverage of all aspects meteorological in the deep dive. I’m from Belfast and currently on hols in Corfu. Appreciated the coverage of #stormdaniel. We experienced the extreme thunderstorm warning issued by Greek met on Monday. Had to take shelter in a beach bar and witness a slow moving thunderstorm moving southeast. Frequent fork lightning with associated thunder claps. Torrential rain and when overhead the Downdraft rapidly lowered the temps bring with it hail the size of 3cm in diameter and heavy squall reducing vis to less than 100yds. Hail may not sound impressive but when ur sheltering under a tin roof it’s pretty deafening.
Proper geeking out on the different type of storms and how thet are formed. I remember when I was younger questioning why there was lightening but not rain...now I know why that was the case! Thanks SO much for these videos!
What a fantastic job Alex, I always enjoy Deep Dives, but this one has been brilliant, super interesting and easy to understand, particularly of interest to me, would be the impact of climate change in our weather, so please do another Deep Dive whenever the report it's released, interesting also, were the stats, please keep those in as well. Many thanks and have a good week. L
I love these deep dives - reminds me of when I was doing A-Level Geography - they really are a must watch for this household!
Excellent stuff. Going to put Deep Dive on my weekly schedule as its so much better than any other weather analysis or even the synoptic charts. Thanks!
This guy is great - what's his name??? - Inforrmative, thorough but utterly entertaining - Not often the weather person makes me laugh out loud when he said "that's not me going mad with my crayons ha ha ha... I love him.
Thanks very much for interesting and competent presentation!
Loving the deep dives! Brilliantly informative and so clearly explained. Love being a met head and now there’s an outlet for it!
Thanks for including the Med where I live. 🙏
As always, a thoroughly absorbing analysis of weather models to describe the trends for the next week. I was intrigued by the NASA satellite image in the top left (thankfully Alex remembered he'd included it) and where I live in Central England we certainly had a beautiful display of rich oranges and yellows at sunset on Tuesday evening. Keep us on our toes with these lovely vignettes.
Thanks Alex for this week’s Deep Dive!! 😀 I’m back at school so I hope I’ll be ready for some hot weather and playing outside with my friends.
I think Alex should use 'Septemperature' more often! Great as always!
Good morning Met office weather
Ah lads, I can't take it. I get sunburned if my phone screen is to bright.
Thank you Alex. I rely on you all year due to me taking the boat out in the Bristol Channel and I’ve found there’s no other weather service that gets it as spot on as the Met Office. Thank you all
I came across this by accident. Really interesting. And I love Alex's delivery! Who knew that over 20 degrees at night was classed as a tropical night? :) I'll look for this again - cheers Alex!
I love weather banter, as an englishman its my idea of heaven!
Fantastic deep dive. They get more and more interesting. A suggestion: as warm , cold and occluded fronts are very much part of our weather it would be useful to have a deep dive explaining more about the relationship between the jetstream and fronts and how the jetstream creates them/moves them...
Thank you.
Your works is appreciated.
Have a nice day🙂Stay healthy everyone.
My tomatoes quickly going red - hopefully with this heat they will all go red and I wont have to make the dreaded green tomato chutney. I like this heat it is bearable so keep the Deep Dives coming👍
Love the deep dives, very informative. My only question is regarding night time temps. I was up about 03:30 this morning, decided to open the door and to check out the weather, well if that was supposed to be around 19deg. it felt about 10 deg. Couldn't wait to close the door and go back to a stiflingly hot bedroom.
Anyway keep up the deep dives and general weather forecasting👍
Alex is really good at doing long-form things like this with minimal slip ups. The software is great too. The main thing I didn't know about before today is Meteograms, which you can get from ECMWF for any city in the UK - I'm going to start looking at them regularly from now on. On balance I find the Met Office's surface pressure charts simpler to understand than the ECMWF plots though. If I was going to suggest a feature, it might be something about how ECMWF operates and what the Met Office contributes towards it.
North Wiltshire had an amazing sunset last night. Thank you for your presentation.
Really interesting explanation about the three different mechanisms of storm formation we might see over the coming week. I've long looked for a good description of how convergence lines are created in the absence of a pressure gradient (i.e. no isobars to speak of). A lot of online material only talks about onshore breezes, but convergence lines don't always run parallel with the coast so I knew that couldn't be the only explanation. Thanks for clarifying that other geographical features can play a role too.
A great program again, really interesting and great explanation of the current heat wave. Thanks for the heads up on the prospect of thunderstorms, our dog really doesn't like them and has been known to do a Forest Gump style run when he hears the first distant rumbles well before we do, so it will be tight lines while out walking over the later days of the week.😊
Alex the picture of you smiling is so nice to see even when the weather forecast isn’t great.
I'm really not a summer person. This heatwave has me utterly wrecked. Sleep clock completely messed up and no energy for anything.
I know it's an unpopular opinion, but bring on the cool, dark and dank.
this was fantastically interesting. love seeing how it's all connected. really interesting about the thunderstorm formation methods too. really awesome! my fave programme on youtube!
Hey, have you guys thought about changing the days for the 10 day trend and the deep dive so they are further apart? It's a bit frustrating having a double dose of whats to come 2 days in a row, but then nothing else for nearly a whole week. I find myself hearing all kinds of new info from the media in the mean time that wasn't discussed but have to wait days on end to find out how much of it is true. How about Monday and Thursday or Tuesday and Friday for the two? That way theres never more than 3 or 4 days without a long range forecast. I know theres the week ahead forecast on Monday isn't there? But still that is the day before the deep dive, so theres no long range updates in the second half of the week. The content it's self is great though, keep up the good work!
Really found that interesting so many thanks. The Deep Dives are very educational and informative as I like to know what the weather has and is doing.
Excellent deep dive. So interesting how much the jet stream is a driver for our weather in the UK. Can we have it on all forecasts please!! Also loved the description of the different types of thunderstorms. Keep up with the technical descriptions please - the more the better.
Great forecast and so useful! Slowly heading north out of Leicester it's so important to be able to plan. I have to take advantage of the cooler mornings to cast off, travel and moor up before it's just too hot to be fun anymore! It was well over 32 degrees in the boat this aft - not very productive temperatures for a pensioner. Keep 'em coming 🙂
Absolutely fascinating ,thank you Alex. Watching this , having endured a 6th hot day, I am longing for the return of meteorological autumn!! Seriously though, a useful 20 minutes of context, especially when you highlighted the weather in the Mediterranean. I am not sure whether I was aware of medicanes until now. Thank you for expanding my knowledge.
Thanks ,Alex , interesting and nicely presented as always . Lots of terminology to remember , especially ,Septemperatures . lol . I always enjoy and look forward to ,the deep dive . Keep up the splendid work .
Love the deep dives, thank you!!!! 💙 I'm gonna pray that that cold front makes it all the way to the SE by Monday, cannot cope with this weather.
I follow and look forward to all the Weather presentations. The team work, gives us a lot of valuable information. This collective input should help support environmental, ecology studies.
More weather education. Thank you, look forward to these now.
How brilliant that you show us the world! Thank you for the most interesting insights. How wonderful!!!!😄
A another good deep dive , amazing to see why we are now getting warm weather . Many thanks
I took the dive for the first time! You have a new fan!
Finally, able to drag the BBQ out 🎉 summer in the autumn. Ausum!
Love your enthusiasm and knowledge Alex...great explanation of the weather. Thanks
Alex, one of your best and most interesting deep dive presentations - thanks from the team at Skyview Systems the weather company
We love our deep dive with Alex.
Totally fascinating to see the drivers of our weather. Great job explaining the complexity.
Love these deep dives.. following & understanding the weather has been an interest since I was a kid and prayed for snow every winter! I now pray for dry sunny, weather as I own a bunch of motorcycles & wont ride in rain!😂
I gotta say, I am loving this late summer heat! 🌞😎👍🏼
Many thanks, we are in Skiathos and have been involved in the massive storm on Tuesday!
Worst ever lightning and rain I have , as a weather watcher lol
Lots of damage but the Greeks are working hard to get everything back to normal bless them.
We went to New Zealand from November to January for 3 months and they had worse weather in 145 years, think we are cursed.
Really enjoying your forecasts 😊
We live in North Devon near Croyde
Thank you Alex, The best weather forecast in a week.
I really like the context this brings to the daily forecasts.
I REALLY LOVE THE DEEP DIVE'S EVERY TUESDAY'S YOU ALL DO REALLY WELL 😁👍🏼 TELLING US THE IMPORTANT WEATHER FORECASTS SO INTERESTING FOR ME & FOR OTHER PEOPLE TOO WHO'S INTERESTED IN THE WEATHER FORECASTS 😁👍🏼.
Fabulous, thank you. I always look forward to this, and the 10 day.
Thanks Alex. Another brilliant Deep Dive. So very interesting and informative.
Wow. That was so packed with really great content, so many insights and interest. And excellent presentation. Thanks.
35 degrees here in SW France average this week , have never known it to be this hot in early September , it’s been a year of extremes ,
Love watching these videos, find them so interesting. I see the heavy rain forecast for Greece, I will be in Rhodes next week
Alex, you're awesome. I love your presentation; informative, and fun. Thank you.
Absolutely fascinating think I will have to watch it again to get my head around this one
Great deep dive as per usual. I'm heading off on a cycling trip to Italy this weekend so I've been keeping a keen eye on European weather. Thanks.
appreciate these weather forcasts, thanks for your hard work
Super interesting to watch. The information you give helps to understand the weather so much easier. You should have a TV channel.
Thanks Alex love the nuances and really enjoy the finer details!
Great presentation Alex. You have presented an excellent deep dive. Land needs to be green in those anomaly charts.
thank you Alex. much needed info. Great job MET
Still loving these. Two new words for me today… orography and medicane 😁
Good to see a bit of focus on Europe and the Mediterranean which I’d like to see more of. Off to Garda next week and the weather looks okay to start with from what I saw in this deep dive 👍
Learning so much from these deep dives. They're fascinating. One happy 'met head'.
Thanks again, excellent presentation, and love the enthusiasm.
Thanks , really appreciate your time in explaining the weather in great depth it’s fascinating.
Any thoughts on what we can expect this winter or is it to early to tell.
I really enjoy your detailed explanations.
Hi. Thanks for the deep dive. Fascinating as ever. I’m really interested to know more about what’s going on in the Arctic with sea temps. Your relative to average sea temperature map - around 9m 30 secs - although it was focussed on Europe it looks like there are some really dark red (ie much higher than average) temperatures in the far north - north end of the Baltic but also then the seas to the north of Scandinavia and Russia. Could you do a focussed piece on what’s going on up there please? Thanks & keep up the fab work. GD, Leeds, UK
I love these deep dives❤ keep them coming!
Fascinating insight into the next few days!
Would love to see a video regarding thunderstorm frequency in the uk. As a teen, I saw absolute overnight humdingers quite regularly. I havent seen a storm like that in North Oxon since 1996 grr.
Great video again thanks again ❤
That was really interesting and explained in an interesting and easy to understand way. I will definitely subscribe. Many thanks
Great video, I love the night time map, need to see that more! :)
Love these.
