      @@cbspock1701 how about it's return to form? How about it's what people have wanted from the start? As a TNG fan from the original run, how about I'm engaged because this frail man found his voice again. How about because this is the form in which we want to see star trek storytelling? Just my opinion...BUT watch the way the titan moves away. This series understands the naval traditions of star trek. And understands how people behave in it. Member berries? How about a legitimate echo of the world building that existed before. Just my opinion! Yours is also valid, but I would invite you to consider that it is reductive to generalized hate of modern trek. I can't stand any Nu trek, but this is written in a way that respects what came before. If it has to be new, why don't you love discovery? Because star trek has a form. An anthology series that embraces other genre. Star trek has always been definitive. Think of the DS9 Episode the magnificent ferengi. Star trek is at its best when it takes genre and adapts it. This is classic trek. Once again . Just my opinion.

      I can say whatever I want to say as long as it doesn't conflict with the rules set down by this channel.
      And one of those rules is to treat other people with respect, which you clearly have not done.
      I had a simple question. If everyone likes all the characters in TNG then why don't we have those characters in the beginning of the first episode, like on TNG? In other words if TNG was great then why don't we continue it?

    What a scene. We've only just been introduced to Shaw but I like his character already. Looks like he's starting to realize why Picard has the respect he does. The silent convey of information through expressions between Beverly and Picard. Picard upon realizing who Jack Crusher is, reigniting that commanding authority he was well-known for. The way he says, "Engage".

He's been set up as an unlikeable man, and he could overrule Picard by simply pointing out the admiral is retired, but instantly he knows there's no way he'll even try to force a man to give up his son. And that little pat on the shoulder from Picard "you're a starfleet captain after all, Shaw". Finally good writing, good acting and efficient storytelling.

    Love seeing Picard grow his balls back after two seasons of being "deconstructed". But Shaw impressed me more in this scene. At 1:24, you can see the look in Picard's eyes .... Shaw could still overrule him, but instead opted to do the right thing. He acted decisively, readying a barrage of torpedoes and a course deeper into the nebula. The man is a salty jerk, and may still end up acting as an antagonist later, but he's a professional officer, a decent man and his priority is clearly the safety of everyone serving under him. This season - Closure for the TNG as a crew. I don’t think this Season could have worked at the 1st Season. Now that I think about it. We had to wait for the crew to be pulled together. And this will end the way a series should - with a bang rather than a whimper.

    I’m really struggling with this plot thread. Beverly is a widow, she knows the anguish of raising a son who does not know their father. Why would she do this. The writers seem only to grasp the facts of the TNG characters but not their temperament.

      Let's be honest. The torpedoes were only ever as powerful as the screenwriters needed them to be. And if the script calls for it, the shields could probably be pierced with a Rotten Tomato.

    What’s up with the new video filter in this episode? High contrast, overblown whites to cover up the cheap CGI. Compare to the colors and contrast of the first episode. They’ve realized CGI looks terrible in this and are trying to “enhance “ the visuals by applying cheap white clipping, high contrast filters.

      The manifolds were clear when they warped in because they were in empty space. Now that they’ve been inside the nebula, those manifolds will be heating up from the nebula clouds, so they can’t just warp out like they did in. Think the Briar Patch from Star Trek: Insurrection.

  • @brianpadraig
    @brianpadraig Před rokem

    I hated that the logic for not turning him over washim being Picard's son, there was such a good tng vibe when Picard had been arguing the philosophy of not turning him over because he should get a fair trial, got cheapened when the only thing that made him actually take action to ensure that, and the only thing that made shaw go along with it, was some kind of nepotism. Imagine being a bridge officer hearing your captain at first willing to sacrifice a random guy for the lives of the whole crew, but then changing his mind and risking his crew for the random guy because of his famous father.
    Ah well, I'm still liking the season so far.
