    And the third line out the surface bait, troll another lure?

    • @ScottBonnerOutdoors
      @ScottBonnerOutdoors  Před 2 lety

      You can add a bonito strip if you have it or you can troll them bare. Both ways work well. The bonito strip is good for getting another chance if they miss on the first strike

    How do you land a fish with 100 ft of leader off of a planer? Do you spool the leader onto the yoyo as you are pulling in the fish? Seems like if you didn't manage the line then it would turn into a big mess on the deck or possibly get tangled with other lines or in the motor if you let it go back overboard.

    • @ScottBonnerOutdoors
      @ScottBonnerOutdoors  Před 2 lety

    I tried trolling a number 6 and a number 8 planer and got tangled and ever since only trolled one planer and surface baits. Might give it another shot any tips? I always make sure the drone is the far bait and the strip is the short and also the deep bait closer. The tangle was so bad it made me paranoid lol. I tried the straight mono you said but couldn’t even get one to stick I got cut off 3 times I find 6 inches of #4 wire doesn’t effect bite rate at all.

    • @ScottBonnerOutdoors
      @ScottBonnerOutdoors  Před rokem

      Tangles do happen from time to time unfortunately. Send the lighter planer out first and make sure you put it farther back then the second heavier planer and you should avoid tangles

      @@ScottBonnerOutdoors yea of course it’s a part of fishing I also always troll a drone spoon and sure it’s on the far line because if it’s the short and tangles it’s a mess. On the short I just troll a sea witch with a strip bait.

    I am relatively new to this but I have been working with Captain's with 50+ years of experience that have taught me a lot and a lot of this is wrong. Braid is bad. There is no shock value in braid and you will get broken off on the strike. Set your troll drag very light. There is no need for giant conventional reels. 30lb mono is great on a 30 size reel. 6500 Spinning reels are awesome! You aren't fighting 100lb fish. Planers are not needed. Mac-a-hoos with a ballyhoo will do much better on a downrigger at 40% depth. You don't need to go 5-7kts. 2-3kts MAX. In fact here in NC we just put the boat in gear. 4 rods with one on a downrigger. The downrigger will get hit 90% of the time.

    • @ScottBonnerOutdoors
      @ScottBonnerOutdoors  Před 2 lety

      I have absolutely zero issues with braid whatsoever. Shock leader is all you need and braid gives me the capacity if I hook a big wahoo or other big pelagics. When fishing “downriggers” of course you want to slow it down but that’s not what this video is teaching. This is about catching a lot of smaller kingfish for an action packed day. I use downriggers when targeting big kingfish
