Blackberry Cobbler 100 Year Old Recipe - Extra Yummy! - The Hillbilly Kitchen

- Blackberry Cobbler is a delicious, healthier choice if you're looking for a fantastic dessert that the whole family is sure to love without feeding them High Fructose Corn Syrup or Mono-sodium Glutamate.
You can pick your blackberries yourself, or you can buy them at the farmer's market or grocery store. Even frozen blackberries taste great in a blackberry cobbler.
From the time I can remember I picked blackberries with my mom, my granny and my aunt Dot. Blackberry cane briars can really be painful! The briars are hooked and they can break off in your skin. We used to go home after picking blackberries and pick the briars out of our skin. Be careful if you've never picked them.
Ingredients:
4 cups - Blackberries
1 cup - Sugar
1 cup - All purpose flour
1 - Egg
1 teaspoon - Real vanilla extract
1/2 cup - Real butter

There was 14 acres of what we called ‘dewberries’ at my grandparents old farm. Once a year I braved the briers and picked 2 buckets full, one for my mother (she made preserves) and one for my sister in law ( she made cobblers ) . I sure miss them..
I really like this
Every spring we were sent along the roadside, and pasture, to gather dewberries so that my grandmother, and later our aunt, could make a blackberry cobbler for dinner on the first Sunday in May. A tradition I continue in memory, and honor, of both ladies. Plus, it just tastes so good.
We have mulberries, dewberries, blackberries, raspberries, strawberries, blueberries, wintergreen, & mint, growing wild, all over our property. Various tree fruits too. I don't know who originally planted them out there, but. My whole family, and several wild animals & birds sure do appreciate it. 😁
I'm sure you do..A lot of farm families have passed this way of life on to their children,grandchildren,etc..We have quite a few in Connecticut..
@@BrendaBodwin you are truly blessed..You will never go hungry...

You make everything into a simple process and give me so much confidence. Several times, I have gotten off computer and gone to kitchen and made your recipe with no problem and many compliments. Thank you!
I just love Hillbilly Kitchen. It's like going home again. I also love when you share your faith with us. We all need the encouragement of sharing our faith with one another.thank you so much. These recipes are timeless and delicious. I'm so thankful you are sharing with us. My God bless you and your family.
You just brought some memories of the deep south when made blackberry cobbler and man it was so good tasting.mmmm
Love the simplicity. Years ago I worked in a restaurant while going to high school. Hey, I had a car due to the grace of God and my uncle who pitched in with the money I was short. Realized I needed money for license, gas, insurance, etc so off to work I go. The chef liked me and pulled me off the dishwasher crew to wash pots and pans for him. He showed me a lot of things and I remember he would scold the servers because when they cut the fruit pies if there was a slight misalignment due to them being in a hurray they would throw the odd ball pieces out. When he seen this waste he had the servers put all the tins with a piece of pie or two broken on a shelf back where the chef and I were working. He told me, 'you're going to make cobbler for the servers and I'll make a flyer for the menus. He gave me tags to clip on the trays I would store the cobbler on. When I asked about the recipe he says' very simple, you don't even need to write it down. Then he took a bowl about medium desert size and just put the piece of broken pie (it was a cherry I even remember at 74 yrs old) into it and then with a fork just finished breaking up the crust turning things kind of upside down. Then he took a little melted butter and sugar and put on top just drizzling it around just like you did. He even took care that the edge of the pie crust that's pleated got turned under so you wouldn't noticed your cobbler was just a piece of broken pie. Then back in the oven for a few minutes to look very similar to your recipe. The flyer showed it with ice cream or whipped cream and I thing the cost was almost double. He then insisted I get some ice cream and eat that first piece he showed me how to make. Now you can be proud of your work that has took what would have went to waste into a very profitable substitute for throwing good food to waste. I asked him about the pieces that were missing part of the original pie and he pointed to the flyer which read the cobblers available were: cherry, apple, peach, blue berry and mixed fruit. Throw all your less than a whole piece of pie into a mixing bowl and gently turn thing over with a big spoon. Then just be sure to weigh the amount into each serving bowl to equal the others. So thanks for the memory, I hadn't thought of this for years but had some leftover peaches, some frozen blueberries (they were frozen but all were big and plump) and a can of cherry pie filling. Thought I would make some demolition cobbler as I call it. Keep that Hillbilly Kitchen a'cook'in. Thanks again, bobby
I remember working on my grandparents farm during the summers and after the day Gram would tell us to go pick enough for a cobbler. Used a old tin bucket, she'd make it after dinner for dessert with homemade vanilla ice cream. God what great memory! Thank you and God bless
Just made this for my boyfriend's birthday. It's his favorite dessert and I hadn't tried making blackberry cobbler before, but I came across your video and thought the recipe sounded good. It was definitely a hit! Thanks! :)
My husband recent found your channel. I’m so glad he did. I am eating blackberry cobbler right now. AMAZING! My blackberries are just starting to ripen. I added some black raspberries and reds to get full amount. Not too sweet. Perfect. I could eat the entire pan. Thank you for being here. 😁
Love your channel! I'm a Christian too, grew up in Oregon with a Dad from Missouri, and my dear Mother was from Arkansas..am quite familiar with your sweet accent. I'm named after my Aunt Dot, so smiled when I heard that. We had so many wild blackberries and were so spoiled, but didn't even realize it at the time. Miss those days. Loved gardening, but now live in the SW desert. No gardening here without a greenhouse. Love your Christian teachings as you cook. Thanks for your teachings, recipes, and kind voice.

I love your recipes. They are basic, straight forward, and easy. I always have the ingredients on hand, and your recipes are enjoyable to have the grandkids help prepare.
There is nothing like the look of pride on their faces when they tell their mom or dad or grandpa that they made that. It's priceless.
Thanks again, and keep the recipes coming.
I love that you believe in family traditions and our Lord. God bless you and your family.
I'm new to your channel. I'm glad I found it... Just subscribed. Everything looks so good my stomach is practically growling and I can almost smell it. I can't wait to really taste it! God bless y'all!

I’ve made this cobbler 3x since watching your video. Everyone LOVES IT. Thank you!
Made this 3 days ago and I'm already making another one!! So good!! 🤩
I live on Blackberry lane in Nor Cal, been collecting berries as they ripen all around me.. Now I know what im going to do with them.. Cook/smoke this cobbler on my 30yr old Weber, in one of my antique, newly stripped and re seasoned cast iron skillets.
I use this exact recipe except that I add one teaspoon of baking powder to the dry ingredients, I also mix 1/2 cup sugar and a teaspoon lemon juice into the berries. Great recipe! Thank you!
Cobbler is one of my favorites! Looks delicious!
Thank you :)
It was very delicious
@@robinholbrook8296 Did the berries make lots of juice?
@@TheHillbillyKitchen I make the blackberry cobbler about once a week. I am over run this year with blackberries. Thanks so much for that yummy recipe. My sons wife just loves it to! Plus it’s so easy to make.
instablaster.
Becky, you hit it out of the park! I love cobbler, especially berry cobbler and cherry cobbler! As my mom said, "There's only two kinds of cobbler... good and better!" Nice work on the video. Get well soon!
Thank you :) I'm feeling much better
I love Becky so so much. She just has the knack for making me smile. Thank you Becky! I hope you feel better.
And I’m so glad you’re feeling better. Looking forward to hearing your Christian messages again. My wife and I live all the way out in Las Vegas Nv and I’m so glad I found your channel. God bless you and your family.
It’s so awesome to experience your videos! It brings memories flooding in from my youth! The Tennessee and Ky hills have such wonderful people and they cook so well using the items available and making do when ingredients aren’t available TY for giving us a great face or giving others the ability to visualize those from the areas
Thank you for sharing this easy recipe. I just tried it with blueberries in a 18x18 pan. It turned out SO well! My family is going to love it!
IT SEEMS I CAN TASTE EVERYTHING YOU COOK - IT ALL LOOKS SO DELICIOUS ! THANK YOU FOR SHARING YOUR COOKING TALENTS.
I made it with blueberries for a family get together today. It was fantastic!
Have you ever tried apple or other mixed combinations? I’m new to baking and curious what fruit go together? What about mango and blueberry?
Looks delicious. I like baking and I liked at the end when you said, put God first !
Absolutely amen
Do y'all ever make the tomato cobbler. My mother use to make it and it was delicious. Fix just like the other cobblers.of course mine never taste or comes out like my mother's. She also made a plain chocolate cobbler. When younger I guess we always just thought we could remember just like mamas. Give anything I had wrote down alot of recipe.
I live in California and its strawberry season here - roadside stands popping up all over. Think I'm going to try that recipe using diced strawberries. Bet it would be a nice alternative to Strawberry Shortcake.
Or! Use an EGG slicer......I know it’s weird, but, bear with me here...........and, et voilay, try SLICED strawberries! But, make sure they’re processed first! Those leaves and hulls don’t taste very good!
Don't dice... thick slice!...chunky is better..try peaches too!
Strawberry cobbler sounds good. I just might try that too. I already made a peach cobbler. My favorite fruit cobbler. Tonight I'm giving this blackberrie cobbler a go with berries I picked this year and froze. Can't wait.
I just made peaches and blueberry...whew...amazing combo....fresh whipped cream too....yum
Sounds like it would be good.
That's what I was looking for!! An old fashioned recipe. I love the old school cooking. Next time spoon it out into a dish so we can see how juicy it is 😊❤ Definitely a new sub here
God first 🙏😇😇😇
Hi Miss Becky, today I made your blackberry cobble for the second time!! My family especially my mother (who is 92 and cooks a BIG meal every Sunday) loves my (your) blackberry cobbler!! Thanks again for sharing this recipe with all of us!! God bless you, your family and your channel!!

I’m not christian and don’t feel you can’t be a good person unless you’re part of organized religion. Nearly everyone feels their beliefs are best. I believe religion, like sex, is a private matter and would far rather it wasn’t pushed on me. Not subbing preachy channels.
@@TheAuntieBa No one here has "pushed" anything on you! You CHOSE to come to this site and watch the video, and then, ironically, YOU felt it necessary to become "preachy" and post your unsolicited commentary about YOUR preferences on religion and sex on someone else's CZcams channel. You could have just quietly clicked on any of a bazillion other cooking channels on CZcams, and spared the almost 200,000 subscribers to this channel your self-righteous, self-important lecture.

Dear Becky, I'm 62 yrs old and I have had to cook for myself for more than a yr and a half! And today thanks to you I picked my black raspberries in a cobbler! Just pulled it out of the oven and it smells wonderful
Goodness this makes me miss my MeMe!! 💗Bless her sweet soul always was cooking for everyone even if she didn’t know you she made sure we all had full belly’s!! 😊
You make the most delicious cobblers!! The Peach Cobbler was delicious! Your recipe
is different from everyone else’s I loved it. I can’t wait to try this recipe!!
Love the old timey recipes you have! Love and blessings to you and your family
Man, I grew up on my Grandma's blackberry cobbler. One year she came to our house and we had a mulberry tree. She made cobblers out of them. I am 65 and spent 30 years driving truck over the road. I retired four years ago and I find myself cooking and baking a lot. My wife cooks but I enjoy it also. Matter of fact I am making a blackberry cobbler today. Lol.
I truly loved the video and what made it even better is putting God first. My family and have the same belief. the cobbler looked so delicious i 'm ready to try it today! once i finish preparing and get a mouthful, i will post! thank you for sharing God Bless You
Sharing Jesus on your wonderful cooking show is a wonderful witness, and also gives us a chance to encourage one another in our faith! A freedom we should never ever take for granted. Our lights should burn bright on this dark channel, shine on!!!!!

Yay! You're back! I check daily for new recipes. This one's a keeper.
Thank you :))
God bless you and your wonderful family!
I make this every Fourth of July holiday. I'm from Alabama and growing up I could not wait for blackberry season. Nothing in the world like a good cobbler. Thanks Becky.
On my goodness.... What a great Family... God Bless you ................... that cobbler WOW
Always a wonderful pleasure to see your show and I love Berry cobblers!
I don't know if you ever read these comments, it'd sure be nice. I'm an older viewer. When I was very young, my grand folk would take me back with them during the summer-months to visit kin.
Those memories are so wonderful. Growing up in southern California is a literal world away from the rural south; a WORLD away.
Anyway, nobody seems to know a thing about what melted this 12 year old boy's heart, turned his stomach into a prayer and created a brand-new philosophy my mind to-this-day has not found wanting. Why no one has never heard of this I just cannot believe. Divinity,
or fried tomatoes, catfish,
I'd have thought some of those things maybe more likely.
In the Ozarks, in the south of Missouri, my aunt Rubi would grow grow, harvest, can, and bake her own vegetables and fruits.
Why has no one ever heard of Goose berries ? The next thing above absolutely-delicious is a slice a warm homemade gooseberry pie.
Don't die until you've tried a this item straight from God's own personal menu.
Please - Please - Please mention something about this gift from heaven. 😇
This is my second time this week making this. My husband can't get enough. Thanks for all of your recipes ❤
Thank you for showing us how to make this cobbler.❤️❤️
Making this right now! I made the peach cobbler yesterday and my husband loved it! I’m sure he’ll love this one also! Thank you!!!

Made the cobbler today with my 13 year old. She loved it :) everyone did. Thank you so much for the recepy. Will definitely keep making it.
Just made this with peaches and blueberries. Absolutely delicious! Thanks for sharing
My husband and I picked our own blackberries behind our condo and made your recipe and loved it! Couldn't stop eating it! God bless you!
Thank You, Becky...
You💝 are such a Great Blessing...to Many.
I hold You in my thoughts and Prayers 🙏✝️🙌💙
This is just like my Grandma's cobbler. I made it and took it to church. They loved it. I do have the cookbook and it has some great recipes in it.
Great recipe! Can't wait to make it for my family. Thank you for putting God first! God bless your family.
Turned out amazing...love it..thanks
I do love your recipes they are all delicious and usually pretty simple and I love the fact they've been handled down to you.
OH MY!! We just made this and it is amazing! We have tons of torn-less blackberries this year. Yeah! I've got frozen peaches set out to try the next cobbler and think I will have to work my way thru the whole playlist. This means our church family will be reaping the rewards of our excess. I just recently found your channel and I'm LOVING it! You truly exhibit the fruit of the Spirit and it brings me and my husband great joy to listen to your little talks about the Lord, your faith and hey the recipes are fantastic too! I would just like to encourage everyone to share any excess you have weather it be a strong helping hand, a listening ear, food, knowledge, any excess resource. If we all shared and truly loved our neighbor can you just imagine how wonderful the world would be?
I can’t wait to try it.
I was getting tired of the oatmeal/brown sugar crumble top. This was a nice change. I doubled the fruit, since I like berries more than the crisp. Yum.
Thank you! Love this!
I remember when I was younger I would go blackberry and blueberry picking with my mom and my granny. My granny made jams and jellies, and cobblers. She was the best cook!! She has went home to be with the Lord. My mom cooks just like my granny did. Such fond memories with her. Watching you make this cobbler brought back so many memories. Thank you and I love your channel!! God Bless you and yes always put God first! 🙏💖✝️🤗😊🥰💗🌸🙏
I would like to know if The Hillbilly Kitchen has a simple recipe for rice pudding
Great lesson. Thank you.
J.O. This recipe is so much different from most cobbler recipes that I was reluctant to try it. I'm so glad I did. Best blackberry cobbler I've ever eaten, bar none. Even beats my Mama's, God rest her soul.
My grandma used to pick blackberries from across the road at her house. Then she would make the BEST blackberry cobbler ever! She would fix some kind of drizzle with Confectionery Sugar and vanilla and I guess butter & a little milk, and drizzle on top of it. I remember as a child it being one of my favorite desserts. I love the way you include God in your videos.
That glaze is usually just Confectionery Sugar and vanilla and little milk, no butter. Thank you 😊 God Bless You!!!
We used to live in the Tri-City area. Sure miss TN and it's people. Used to love going out into the backyard and picking fresh blackberries.
I just happened upon the Hillbilly kitchen for the first time a few days ago. I love her simple recipes and at the same time, sharing Christ.
Keep letting The LORD use you!
I absolutely love your peach cobbler recipe and this one looks just as fabulous! We have wild blackberries and wild strawberries in our backyard in MN, I'm going to mix the two in mine. Thanks Becky!
Thank you for your good old fashioned recipe, this is my 3rd time I had made your recipe! My youngest son is loving it! 😊
I was raised in Northern WI and had a big family and we did the same thing your family did to spend a day picking blackberries and Mom making pie or cobbler.
I tried your recipe and it was the best one yet. It is a keeper.
God bless you for sharing. Portia ❤
This video so reminds me of my grandma's cobbler, Ty so much for doing this video and bringing back great memory's

I Love your recipes. I also love you putting God first
It''s July 2021 but stumbled on your site recently and just made your blackberry cobbler for my son's birthday celebration. It was amazing and pared well with homemade ice cream. Loved getting away from traditional cake and took me back to my roots in rural NC where cobblers were a big thing in our church socials. Thank you for bringing that back to me!!
It turned out beautifully.
😊
Yummy!!! Thank you and God bless
I feel like this is the recipe my mom used but I can't ask her since she passed away. I will make it and see..thanks love your channel!
Thank you :) I hope it is your mom's recipe. I have been trying to find the recipe for a cake that my mom made for years...
I made this and used 4 cups fresh blueberries. It was outstanding.
Thank you so much
This was incredibly tasty! Thanks !To God be the glory.
