  • Today I will show you how to run a hard disk drive (HDD) brushless motor with a phone charger.
In this video, I will explain how to connect SATA power cable with phone charger and "hack" it to run forever and don't stop.
This tips also apply to Laptop's HDD 2.5".

Hey man, so i tried this setup and did work without a problem, But i have a question if you might know or if anyone else does, I have an adapter for the USB that has Output 5V 2.0A or 9V 1.67A or 12V 1.25A. So i was wondering if i can use the 4 wires in the usb cable, red - black to sata red - black for 5V and the other 2 in the usb cable to Yellow - Black Sata 12v and then connect it to the adapter that has all those outputs or would it not work like that because the adapter can only have one of the outputs "active" at a time? Thanks in advance and great video :)

Unfortunately mine doesn't work. I have a 3TB Barracuda DM001 and neither the 6+2 or 3+5 pin shorting works. It stops after 10-20 sec. Plus mine requires the r/w head socket to be bolted on, as I see yours is not, it has contacts on one of the two screws holes. I guess it's a hit and miss, have to try other methods.

It’s depending on SATA power standards!

    My bro,
Why don't you have this written out? Your video is of little help because we can see what wires you are connected to for + and -. Is that the SATA plug you are making your connection to? By connecting pin 3&5 to one another, what is that for/doing? Which wires on the yellow, black, red, and orange connector do we connect to?
just a small listing of what wires you are connecting your 5V + to and 5V - to. If we reverse polarity, does it spin in reverse? prob not if its brushless..
Anyways, text is always best, video is good as a visual reference, as an aid.
    thanks man.

I should have explained in more detail. However, because of the time at that time, I did not have much and I also wanted the video length to be moderate.
Why don't you find your own the answer: try reversing the + and - poles...etc? This is not difficult at all.
And please share with me the results :)
