    Thanks for this video, I'm late getting to it and NINA has moved on since but I'm still able to follow along and find where things are in this rather dense software. NINA is a bit daunting so I think you're a star (pun intended) for making this guide.

    You totally make me change my mind, I was going to get the asi air pro, but now I'm totally sold out for NINA, buying a small laptop it will be cheaper than the airpro, and the control I can get with this program it's far superior, thanks for the videos.

    • @CuivTheLazyGeek
      @CuivTheLazyGeek  Před 4 lety +1

      In the end, it's all about flexibility vs work for initial setup. ASI Air attempts to be a turn-key solution, but it doesn't currently support a critical feature (Autofocus). Once it does it may actually be something that I consider.... except that then I would need to manually get my subs from the ASI Air to a computer for processing, which I'm currently doing automatically over my home network... In the end it's all about the needs and preferences of each!

    • @GioFar
      @GioFar Před 4 lety

      @@CuivTheLazyGeek Yes, also no planetary on ASI Air Pro, which would put me again in the condition of needing a laptop, just need to find the proper way to do the polar alignment, I was going to get a 400 FL guide scope and that's too much for Sharp Cap.

      @@CuivTheLazyGeek Yes I noticed some differences, but nothing major and I was able to follow along with your excellent guide.
      That said, I did check your playlist out, and couldn't see any "updated" setup video. I don't know how often NINA changes, so not sure if it's feasible to create updated setup videos every so often?
      I really like this software, compare to Backyard EOS. Sadly a lot of astrophotography software has confusing GUI, which makes it very hard for newcomers. NINA is really simple and intuitive.

  • @Mrmonkey0529
    @Mrmonkey0529 Před 4 lety +1

    Cuiv - great video as always. Question about dithering. I set that to RA only because I feel like my backlash is bad enough in DEC that I might lose a sub just trying to get back to decent guiding. Would you consider that an acceptable trade or will this impact me in processing to a noticeable degree?

    • @CuivTheLazyGeek
      @CuivTheLazyGeek  Před 4 lety

      I think it is an acceptable trade - but it will hurt you to some extent in processing. It increases the probability of walking noise, so if you use an uncooled camera, it may be an issues... I wish PHD2 has a "dumb / best-effort dither" that would just sent a guide pulse in RA and DEC (same as the direct guiding I implemented in NINA), and not check the results.

      Mmmh I never had that - I tried creating multiple profiles in NINA just now, and didn't see any problem on my side, so not sure what is happening. Could you try temporarily setting a different folder, see if that works? Otherwise, I would recommend asking on the NINA Discord.
