Honestly I love that your real(when you talk about budget), and that your doing it yourself. I used to watch another husband and wife gardening channel faithfully but I realized they just keep buying more property, and adding staff, and that isn't what a real backyard gardener does. We do it ourselves, and add plants, and trees, etc. when we can afford it.
I stopped watching them also and watch Janey and her husband instead. I am interested to see how it all turns out because I have 1/3 acre in So. Ca. And what Janey is doing is much more relatable to my situation and what will actually grow well here.
This channel and HortTube with Jim Putnam are way more relatable than the other channel referenced (with staff and added acreage). Janey and Jim are also better with connecting with their viewers in videos. 🌿
No longer in interested in that husband and wife team either. They are getting away from the real gardening aspect of home/family gardening which is what I'm interested in. Getting to big for their britches comes to mind! Must be nice to have that type of budget but that's not us regular folks.@@joannajohnson5570

I agree with another viewer’s post thanks for clarifying a budget and you may have to wait on something due to affordability. This helps a new gardener realize it does not come all at once. Love the plan for your side border.

Crepe Myrtle 25 ft tall.

I really appreciate how you thoroughly you explain the pros/cons of what you plant, even with plants/trees that I'm familiar with I still learn something new. Your Master Gardener status is well-earned and deserved! Also enjoy when Jason is along to help, you two are fun to watch. It's obvious he's becoming more comfortable in front of the camera! And lastly, as a fellow 49er Faithful, I was so bummed and disappointed with the outcome. Last time my Niners won was a few months before I got married, was hoping that for our 30th anniversary we'd be Super Bowl champs again!

Janey, your trees are beautiful. They have transformed that area of the garden, and it looks so balanced. They look even bigger now that they are in the ground. Isn't it exciting picking out plants for a new garden, especially trees.🌲🌳🌴 You have so many that you can choose from that grow well in your area. You have such a kind and caring husband. Jason is just wonderful the way he happily helps you out in the garden. I think he likes gardening too. Gardening is such a wholesome family thing to do.

The trees look beautiful and will make a good screen. 😊 When describing the plants potential dimensions etc, it would be helpful to include the zone and light requirements. Also, some of the plants appeared as though they were root bound and could use a bit of teasing as well as starter fertilizer. 🌳💚
She did talk a lot more about her planting method when she planted her cedar last week. She has some good reasons for not disturbing the roots a lot and for planting in the native soil without additional nutrients so it’s worth watching.
Don’t forget about Lorapetulum for dark foliage to contrast the blue-green tree.

It’s a TUSCARORA CRAPE MYRTLE - I love crapes, especially the classic National arboretum varieties!! I have 2 Natchez, 1 Tuskegee (slightly smaller lighter than Tuscarora), and 3 Twilights - Catawba has stunning light purple flowers, smaller patio tree, beautiful bark and foliage (I think you’d love this one!! 💜 ) - I’m zone 7a/b northern VA

Love what you’re doing in your garden. It’s so nice to have a mix. Might I suggest a Hollywood Juniper? I love the twisted look and the seed pods. It would play well with what you have chosen so far. I’m loving Jason. He has really stepped up 😊

Nice mix on the tree colors, etc! At first glance, I'm wondering if the Spruce is too close to the fence? I'm sensitive to trees on property lines, on normal city size lots that is, because our neighbor had some type of Maple planted only a foot from my garage that got huge and constantly dropped crud all year on my car and driveway, roof, etc. Not to mention blocking all the sun on my Rose. Anyway, this Winter they did cut it down to about 10 ft but left the trunk! So IMHO I'm going to have to see what's up with that if it starts again.

I have a dwarf lime Cypress and I just love it I named it Stella and I also have two different sized dwarf blue spruces the smaller is named Bruce 2 and the larger is named Stewart since I don't own the property I live on everything's in containers for now! All three hangout in the same corner of my patio Garden and this will be the third spring with them

Oh I had an idea when you introduced Miley Cypress - what about having people “sponsor” a tree? Might be a way to get the additional trees sooner rather then later and it could be a fun thing to have your followers getting involved with your garden from a far. After yrs of helping me dig holes, spread compost, remove funky shrubs and so much more of the heavy lifting my husband likes to garden now too, as long as he doesn't have to pull weeds . . . I like your selections, it will look nicely balanced once it starts to fill in. Tough break for the Niners!! So close, it was a great game!!

I have a Pink Velour Crepe Myrtle in my backyard and it’s a little over 10ft but it’s pretty narrow. They seem to grow taller than they do wider. Pluse the new leaves are like a purpleish green then becomes dark green. I hope it does well for you!

Idea being to save on cooling costs of your home. I have received 7 free trees. I selected some Crepe Myrtle for one of my choices.
