I was fortunate to work on those 40 series in the 90s when they returned to the US straight from SAS. I had never seen, to this date, airplanes so clean and so well maintained. They were all converted to cargo in minimal time, and I doubt any of them survives. But I was very impressed compared to US operated airplanes that had to be almost completely stripped down. Still have pictures of those -40s. Great version of an even greater airplane.
The design to avoid deep stall had nothing to do with the engines or tailplane, it was those tiny little winglets just underneath the wing jutting toward. Those are vortex generators that provide high energy air only outboard of the wing that happens to be behind the centre of gravity, this basically pushes the nose down as the angle of attack increases to the point that even if you were silly enough to hold the stick fully back the aircraft would not enter a deep stall and elevator authority is maintained.

You're welcome - these were converted from VHS some years ago - I will look for more episodes!
I remember seeing this on TV years ago, nice to come across it again
Thanks for that. Discovery have an episode list on their website, but sadly, there is no live link.
