You know something..... Birds sit on wooden perches not on rods/pipes. Fix natural perches in the birds cages. Different size of tree branches (chewable).
I think it is better to be like that, than be constatly starving, fighting for food and in high risk to die cause predators, sicknesses, starvation itself, etc, at least for them.
Birds born in cages and brought up by humans cannot survive in their environment in the wild, if they are released to fly free! They will certainly die..Btw, some species have survived because they are kept at homes or zoos. In their natural habitat they are in danger, extinct or hunted for..
