- Ugh making friends as an adult is so hard. It's easy to beat ourselves up for being lonely and not having a best friend to lean on. Sometimes I'll compare myself to others who have large friend groups and I'm disappointed in myself for not having that same experience. There came a point where I got sick of feeling sorry for myself and wanted to do something about it and that's where these 12 tips came from. I can't believe how well it went when I took action to try to make friends! It was supposed to be a year-long goal that turned into a 30-day experiment because it worked so well.
I really hope you'll find these tips helpful if you're trying to make friends. Please be kind and compassionate with yourself. Be proud of yourself for caring and for trying. I'm proud of you, friend!

One thing I too struggled with as an adult was not having that one “best” friend. So thank you for phrasing it as “not putting all your eggs into one basket.” I love the 7 friends I have. No I’m not any of their “best” friends, and that’s ok. I know they care, and that’s all that matters. It also helps that they understand and don’t mind that I’m an absolute hermit and they’ll see me maybe once a month😂.

Being an introvert, I've struggled making friends my whole life. Your tips are great. Another suggestion is making friends through another friend or even a neighbor. My neighbor kept saying how I reminded her of her sister. She introduced us one day & have been friends ever since.

So happy I found this video. I have been struggling with this for a while now. I had a lot of friends at one time. So called best friend her and I had a falling out and all the "friends" disappeared. The ones I did have were amazing. One moved away, one just stopped talking to me for reasons unknown to me, and one passed away almost a years ago. Another 2 years ago to cancer. I don't go out much. Making friends is painful. But I have been putting it out to the universe that I need new frineds. Someone is listening I found this video by accident. I was looking at your room tour video . One of the things that I find about finding friends goes along with my favorite quote. “To be interesting be interested”. As a curious person I have attracted a variety of different friends just by my deep curiosity.

I think this was a fantastic video. I live in a really small town in Minnesota. It makes it really hard to have friends at times. I'm no longer teaching but my friends all still work. I've been wanting to start a junk journal group- like the meet up at the library type thing. You've inspired me to do it! I subscribed to your channel yesterday as I was looking for mid-century modern decor inspiration (I love your style). Wasn't expecting to see a video like this, but it really couldn't have come at a more perfect time for me. I relate to so much of what you said. I'm almost 30, childless, recently came out as bi. I don't have a sister and always wished I did for the same reason you stated, lol. Right now my partner is my closest friend, which is wonderful, but I want to avoid him being my *only* significant relationship. I've done the whole putting all your eggs in one basket thing in the past, and that only leads to codependency. These are really great tips. I know I'll struggle with some of it just because I'm so shy, but staying in my comfort zone hasn't worked so far.

Oh my goodness... Where have you been all my life, lol? I'm older than you are (42) but I love all of the things that you are interested in. I, too, collect vintage, craft, and have conversations with animals. Have you ever seen an inflatable terrarium footstool? I have one and it is amazing. I think I have a picture of it on Instagram. Anyways... I fall in the line between extroverted and introverted as well. I have a total of two friends... four if you count my boyfriend and a plush pigeon named Pommes Frites. Adult friend-making is really hard and I struggle with it a lot. Of the two friends that I have, one of them is my cousin and the other is her boyfriend. They are great when they are present but they have a tendency to isolate themselves from everyone else at times. I kind of wish that I had other friends to spend time with when they get that way. I went through similar things as you when high school ended. I didn't go to college. I moved for a time. I had a kid. Then I moved back home when I separated from her dad. All of my old friends were partying or dating at that point and my focus was being a mom so we grew apart and that was okay. At that time I had a group of really close friends that included my cousin, my current boyfriend, my bff Abraham, a weirdo family friend Paul, and a few mutual friends of friends that we hung out with regularly. It was a nice little family unit of weirdos. Years later a few of us kind of went our own separate ways and my friend Abraham passed away. I took that really really hard. I'd struggled with anxiety and depression for most of my teenage/adult life. Abraham and I had that in common and we supported each other so the loss was something I never really got over. Not long after that I reconnected with an old friend from high school and about a year later he passed away due to complications from an illness. I just haven't been the same and I hide a lot. Sorry for the long story, lol. I just wanted to say that I appreciate you sharing your experiences and speaking honestly about things that it seems most adults are afraid to admit. It's like when you're my age you are expected to have it all figured out but the reality is that no one really does, we all just learn to hide it really well from others. It's kinda exhausting and I'm relieved to hear other adults talking about it so thank you for that. I love your channel and seeing how you create these little joys for yourself and all of us to see. You are super awesome!

Very hard (ie - impossible!) to make friends if you don’t have kids. Most people are wrapped up into their kids lives and are friends with their kids friend’s parents. The friends that I had in school (prior to social media) all got married and started families and I never heard from them!
Yeaaaaah that’s pretty much how I feel too. I know their lives are busy and that’s why I prioritize people that don’t have kids either 🤷🏼♀️
I want to make an "Aldi friend"! There have been times that I have seen people at thrift stores/ estate sales and thought they look like "my type" . I thought I would look like a weirdo approaching them and saying "wanna be my friend?"...but really it's not, now that you have put it out there as an option. Thanks!

I love your channel. This was a very poignant video. It is difficult to make friends today. People seem to keep to themselves. They tend not to make eye contact or respond to a comment. Is that a trust issue? Not sure. I keep smiling and saying Hi!
