"A Puro Dolor" is a song recorded by the Puerto Rican band Son by Four. It was written by Omar Alfanno and released as the first single from the band's second studio album in 2000. Two versions of the track were produced for the album; one as the sauce and the other as a ballad. The ballad version was organized by Alejandro Jaén.
The song peaked at number one on the Billboard Top Latin Songs, and became the longest-running chart leader in its history, spending 20 weeks at the top; This record was broken five years after the Colombian singer Shakira with "La Tortura", who spent 25 weeks at number one. "A Puro Dolor" also reached the 100th card; This led to the recording of an English language version of the "Purest Way of Pain," which was also charted in the United States.
The composition also met with critical acclaim receiving the Lo Nuestro Award, the Billboard Music Award and a Latin Grammy Award nomination. In 2009, "A Puro Dolor" was named the best unique American performance of the 2000s in the United States. Two videos were made for the ballad and the English versions.

"Son" is a rhythm created in Cuba but spread out in Latin America in the form of salsa. Son by four means that it is four guys playing that music style since they are Puerto Rican.

I could be wrong, but I think you were reading the lyrics to the English version of this song (called "Purest of Pain") rather than a translation of the Spanish lyrics. The overall meaning stays the same, but I noticed that some of the verses didn't quite match. But who cares? It's such a great song, I'm just glad it was brought back to my consciousness :D
Hi India... First of all I want to tell you that I really enjoy your reactions. I wold like to make a little correction in the translation of the group name. The word "son" within the group name it's not an english word, so it does not translate to "child of". The word "son" is in spanish and in this context it refers to a caribbean rhythm.
