This song is about New Orleans. The Doobies spent some time there and fell in love with the city and all of what makes it special - the Mississippi River, Dixieland Jazz, dancing to Cajun music with pretty girls, and taking streetcars (trolley cars) Uptown. You can't go wrong with the Doobies. They're an American treasure.
"Long Train Running" is a must to listen to. I can't wait to see George's reaction. I love how he gets into the music.
Great Americana Group! This is heartland music....love this tune! đđđđđđđđđđđđđđ
The Doobie Brothers are an American rock band that have been around for 5 decades. They covered many genres of music over the years. They had so many great songs such as "What A Fool Believes", "Listen To The Music", "Jesus Is Just Alright", "Long Train Runnin'", "China Grove", "Black Water", "Takin' It To The Streets", "The Doctor", "It Keeps You Runnin'", "Echoes Of Love", "You Belong To Me", "Take Me In Your Arms" etc.
This song was released in 1974 when I was 3 years old my parents were HUGE Doobie (means a huge blunt) Brother's fans! I grew up listening to the Doobie Brothers!
2020 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame! Listen To The Music - Another Great Song.
Guys, consider reacting to "It Keeps You Running," "Dependin' On You," "What a Fool Believes" and "Long Train Running." I think you will enjoy all of the Doobie's catalog. Long Train Running will blow you off the railroad tracks đ
One of my favorite tunes by TheDoobies and especially the vocals!
Now that's my kind of music! I'm 65 and this is what I love! Brings back memories!
One of my fav songs eva. I'm 66 and remember when this song came out. It was a huge hit.
The Doobie Brothers have a BUNCH of hit music. Youâve just scratched the surface.
I couldn't click on this fast enough. If there was ONE song by the Doobie Brothers I would have wanted you to hear it is this. This song has been bringing me joy since I was kid. I love seeing your joy.
It's a great song, but I don't know that it's what I would have picked for a first Doobies song to hear. I'd have started with more of a rocker like China Grove or Long Train Running to get them hooked first before veering into Black Water.
@@Nightcrawlerfive long train running would have been my first pick
I agree - this is one of my favorite songs! One of the great road-trip-sing-along-with-the-radio songs of all time. I have such good memories of this. How can anyone NOT want to see along with this?
This song was released in 1974. Such a cool song and the one that pretty much made me a big fan of their music.
If this is your first Doobie Brother's song, you've got alot of searching and listening to do, they were probably the most successful of the 70's groups, they were huge. Takin it to the Streets, China Grove, Long Train Runnin', Listen to the Music, What a Fool Believes, etc...., ! You can't go wrong with the Doobie Brothers.
There are 2 eras of the Doobs. Early was Tom Johnston on lead guitar & when he had to take a break; Michael McDonald stepped in on the piano.
It was more rock, blues, jazz & R&B at first. Then it became more pop.
My personal fave, since you did this one, is Jesus is Just Alright. This is we were first introduced to them in the early 70âs.
In my top 3 faves after Zep & the Beatles!
I much prefer the pre-McDonald Doobies.
Long Train Runnin, one of my top 10 favorite songs
Wow! I forgot how wonderful this song is! Magic!
Itâs called âCajunâ style music guys. Although this is a band from California, they showed their versatility on this one, as the form is from Louisiana area where French people settled in the 1700âs.
I believe the genre that was given to this style is Southern Rock. And I believe the Doobie Brothers are still active.
One of my favorite songs! A true classic from the 70s. A great song to sing along to on a road trip. Brings back memories. This will continue to grow on you the more you hear it!
This is my FAVORITE Doobie Brothers song! â€đ†It's Funky Southern Country Rock!
Have seen the Doobies a couple of times in concert. This song remains one of my favorites.
"China Grove" and "What A Fool Believes" next from this band, please. Both very different from this song but just as great.
OMG I can't believe this is the first time you've reacted to The Doobie Brothers! đź Their catalog is enormous, with many many hits. They are one of my favorite bands; so talented, so versatile, and so enduring. They are still touring and recording, after 50 years! I suggest Long Train Runnin', Listen to the Music, and Jesus is Just Alright from their early years. Then, from their later years: Takin' It To the Streets, It Keeps You Runnin', and What a Fool Believes.
Best of southern rock. I can just imagine being in Louisiana by the Mississippi River and dragon flys buzzing under willow trees!đ
You just found the Doobie Brothers? This journey is gonna be fun!
All about the harmonies. Beautiful. It is a combo of bluegrass, country & rock.
"Long Train Running" is another classic - and "Clear as the Driven Snow" will take you on a journey.
Doobie Brothers are fire.đ„
You'll find that The Doobies have a very wide range of styles but most of the time it comes down to what people call "Southern Rock".
âClear as the Driven Snowâ is the song you want from the Doobies.
After being a fan for fifty plus years it sounds just as fresh now as it did back then. Check out " Jesus is just Alright" China Grove". It may sound different to you because the US is so diverse in culture. We come from everywhere.
I saw The Doogie Brothers in the 80s when a general admission concert ticket was only $20! They were fantastic.. just as crisp and smooth live as the recording. It was in south Mississippi so them singing Blackwater made the crowd go insane.
Can you imagine growing up with songs like this coming out every day? Yes, thatâs how it was in the 1970âs. The music came at us so fast from so many artists. Nothing can compare. What a great time to be alive.
I've seen the Doobies three times in three different decades. Great concerts, all three.
Saw the Doobies in college with Skynyrd
and Foreigner, one of my all time fav's â€ïžđ
The Doobies, yes! Such a diverse group. Listen to the Music is excellent. And What a Fool Believes.
My bestie and I used to sing Black Water all the time! Good memories đ
I like the word "Swampy!" LOL It fits well for this band, The Dobbie Brothers and also 'CCR" Credence Clear Water Revival!! I can't describe the sound musically but it gives me the Feeling of "Swampy!" LOL đ
I am so happy that you actually found this song and band. This is an amazing song and The Doobies are an icon of American Southern Rock. I grew up loving them.....glad you enjoyed them too!
Pretty momma come and take me by the hand.....
SWEET. GREAT SONG. Loved these guys. SOOO GOOD.
You guys will love "Long Train Runnin'" , 'Listen to the Music", "What a Fool Believes", "China Grove", and "Jesus is Just Alright".
"It keeps you running", "Losing End" All Doobies, but oh that Michael McDonaldđ„
Listen to the Music and China Grove have always been my favourite Doobie Brothers songs but this is not far behind. That layered acapella break is so mesmerizing. Great harmonies and acoustic guitar.
The weaving of the vocal harmonies is what really makes this song. It's a classic. Brilliant song.

Shocked that you've never reacted to them before. They have such a deep catolog, and they are still playing. I saw them twice in 2021 and about 8 times in the previous 8 years. Dive In! My favorite is Road Angel from that same album.
So glad you enjoyed this amazing song! I couldnât wait for the end vocals⊠I knew you guys would be amazed by it! Thank you!!!!!! Great reaction as always! đđ
My Brother and I went to concerts together, in the â70âs Of course we loved The Doobie Brothers. My Brother performs this song now, at his solo gigs, so his wife and I sing the other parts, from our seats. FUN FUN FUN!
Some great Doobie tunes- " China Grove " & " Long Train Runnin "
Doobie Brothers are absolutely a worthy rabbit hole to dive into, hope you continue! Great reaction as always.
You just can't go wrong with the Doob's... if you want to hear them harmonize this is the song "Doobie Brothers - Another Park, Another Sunday 1974" (Live) This was with Tom Johnson... this band has a long shelf life. They took a lickin' and kept on ticking... Longevity~
Great reaction guys!! You will love all of their music. Thanks!
I might have had one of the coolest middle school social studies classes in the history of the world. We would read a textbook and listen to rock on the radio, this song was popular at the time. I remember this song, have no idea what was in the book though. I had 3 classes in three years where the music played most of the time, this social studies class, a drafting class and theater class building sets etc.
Yes u finally played this song best song of theirs
Be well
Fr across the waters
Canada đšđŠ
I'm thinking "China Grove" would be a great choice for your next Doobie Brothers song. Can't go wrong with the Doobies !!! Great reaction as usual guys !!! âđđ»đđ·đ¶
So happy you found the Doobies, dive in to them they're definitely worth it, so amazing in concert, love from Australia guys
Bros, you'll be surprised by most Doobie Brothers songs. In the 70s they mainly had very catchy rock songs with loud guitars and great harmonies. In the 80s they were more of a jazzy pop/rock group with Michael Macdonald doing most of the vocals. Great band that had two drummers on stage!
We performed this song in my high school chorus...such a fun song to sing.
This is the kind of music that makes you want to join in and sing along, good time jammin' music man. They have songs that are little more like rock, for instance, "Taking It to The Streets", "China Grove", "Long Train Running" and "Listen To The Music", I think you'd really like these. I loved this guys, it got me singing along, lol. Thanks!
These west coast guys ⊠they are so good. â€ïžđŒâ€ïžđ
"Another Park, Another Sunday" is another amazing Doobie Brothers song with incredible harmonies...
The genre is a blend of Dixieland, Bluegrass and Southern Rock. The inspiration for the song is the 'home-grown' sound in the clubs in New Orleans, Louisiana.
They are a Southern California band started in the early 70's. Brought in lead vocalist Michael Mcdonald later 70's. Many hits from both versions of the band. Try Long Train Runnin, Jesus Is Just Alright, China Grove and What A fool Believes just for a start. A couple great bands from that era Little Feat, Atlanta Rhytm Section and Little River Band..
The guy on the left really felt this, how wonderful to see. Guy on the right, bring it to the surface.
I remember our gym class would sing this song while we ran laps back in High School.
Great song, great feel, and awesome T-shirts.
The Doobie Brothers...a product of the GREATEST decade of music, 1970s!! They are STILL kicking today and have recorded this virtually last year. They have a LONG list of classic hits as others have shared. The 70s had the most talented, creative, and classical musicians/singers/writers.
So nice to see you listen to Doobie Brothers. Love this song. And recommend Long Train Running next.
One of the very best songs to listen on headphones is Al Stewart - Year of the Cat
The fiddle in this song is actually a viola played by Novi Novog.
Great song! You both look AWESOME!
You are AWESOME too!!
Absolutely love singing along to this song!!!
"Black Water" was a No. 1 pop hit for the Doobie Brothers in the U.S. in 1975. Guitarist Patrick Simmons wrote the song and sings lead vocals on it. (By the way, a "doobie" is a slang word for a joint, or marijuana cigarette. :-) ) The band's original lineup, formed in 1970 and which included Simmons, mostly featured Tom Johnston singing lead vocals, on songs such as "Long Train Runnin'," "Listen to the Music," "Take Me in Your Arms" and "The Doctor." Michael McDonald joined the band in 1975 and took over lead vocals on songs such as "Takin' It to the Streets," "What a Fool Believes" and "Minute by Minute." In the early years, Simmons also sang lead on "Jesus Is Just Alright" and "Tell Me What You Want (And I'll Give You What You Need)."
Like many other Southern Rockers, the Doobies seemed to embrace the Southern "Story Telling" mindset. Also, their studio production values were far above many of the day. Cheers Guys. PS "China Grove" is one of my faves. Dahmar S. noted many of their iconic songs below.
Marshall Tucker Band- Take the Highway.
Yea!! More Doobies
The harmonies at the end are insane. Over the many years, I've tried to sing each part. Got it down to a science...lol Great job guys!
I love this song. One of my favorites. Some other great Doobie songs are South City Mid Night Lady and Another Park Another Sunday. All of their songs are great. I saw them in 2019 and they still sound great. Can't wait to see them again in a few months here in Las Vegas.
Glad you found the Doobies! Try "Long Train Runnin", "China Grove" and "Jesus Is Just Alright". Very different, but equally great!
Adding to your commentsâŠ
Thatâs why this group is still relevant
even now. Special band thatâs for sure.
I live in an apartment so headphones are
essential. Otherwise Iâd get kicked out!
Such a vibe. My favorite kind of vibe for real. đ
This was a great reaction. I love the look of confusion and enjoyment together. I would call this Genre Country Rock.
This song has a lot to offer, rock, country and blues. The ending is so dynamic with that back and forth interaction with some great vocals in the mix. So many great songs through the years with their first big hit in 1972 LISTEN TO THE MUSIC up and including CHINA GROVE, WHAT A FOOL BELIEVES AND LONG TRAIN RUNNIN"
Brilliant song! đ
This song always puts me on the streets of New Orleans, heading uptown.
Great, great song
Nice reaction guys! Black Water is probably my favorite Doobie Brothers song. Please check out some more of their music.
One of my favorite songs of them hello from New Berlin Texas
They are singing their parts in rounds, coming in at different times. Very similar to Doo Wop (50âs/60âs).
Childhood! Loved this song as a kid. Dixieland Jazz. Simon & Garfunkel Mama's Got A Squeeze Box.
You've made my day, heck you've made my year. Somehow all this great music was lost in a generation. You bros have been listening and reacting to music that me and my brother grew up with and that was a mainstay in our lives we know it was epic when we were experiencing it. I was a concert junkie I've seen all but the Beatles. Our generation X was the music. Thank you Bros for bringing it back and introducing it to the next gen. My journey started in '77 just before my 12th birthday. Concert that is etched into my brain cells. From a and I have not seen you do yet that I know of. I haven't seen all your videos yet. if you find time, it was STYX, the Grand illusions tour. Look into this band they were true performers music that is undoubtedly their own. So "come sail away."
I think this is a uniquely American vibe. Summertime⊠fishingâŠ. Mississippi RiverâŠ. Bluegrass and countryâŠ. You feelinâ it?
Terrific as usual, both the music (of course), and your reactions! You guys are really a pleasure to watch and listen to. You might enjoy Loggins And Messina? Also same era... "Angry Eyes" Thanks.
This!!
Thanks for all your reactions guys.
Interestingly, Blackwater was NOT an immediate hit when it was released. In fact it was originally the B side of a song I don't remember. When some dj's from the southern US started playing Blackwater instead of the 'A' side the response was huge and eventually it went all the way to the top of the charts.
"Jesus is Just Alright" is another powerful hit of theirs reflecting the times.
I just saw them last year in Kansas City and they nailed it it was incredible
Before I watch this, as a concerned subscriber, I saw an article in today's local Ottawa newspaper titled "Volunteer Georgian Fighters Stiffening Ukraines Defences". It is in the Ottawa Citizen paper dated Thursday Feb. 17 and written by Neil Hauer. I love my music and my guitar but I also love freedom and non violent humans. I really hope you guys and your fellow countrymen and all of eastern Europe stay safe. There are many evil regimes throughout the planet and that whole area is facing one right now. I'm not religious at all so I will just say "Bless all of you". Cheers from the canadian Queen nut.
If you like that sound you should definitely check out. Queen Bohemian Rhapsody you will love it. Use your head phones. Great reaction
70's-I remember when this was out
It kind of has a folk song feel. Great reaction!
One genre that influences this song is "bluegrass," a older style American folk music primarily from the Appalachian mountain region. Bluegrass has influence on many musical genres (especially country) and is still very popular in it's own right.
