Veterinarians here consider chickens "exotic" and don't see them. Yeah, a creature domesticated for thousands of years is "exotic." Nearest is 80 miles away!

Need to find an avian vet. Anatomy of birds is really complex and not relatable compared and to the mammalian anatomy general vets are highly trained on.
It's like wood working and metal work, the principles are the same but the discipline is a ways from each other.

Have one with it now but recovering. But! While watching her yesterday to see how she was doing an Easter egger I've got, no telling what breed, hopped up on top of the water bucket and leaned all the way forward and down over the side of the bucket. Pointed her beak straight down toward the ground and let go a stream of fluid. I've heard before that chickens can't do that but this one certainly can.
Hey maybe she learned by watching me drain the other bird? It could happen. lol

I’ve been dealing with the crop problem for weeks now. She’s got a pendulum crop that was impacted. I massaged it every two hours until I had all the solids moved out. It’s been squishy like a water balloon for about a week now. Still massaging it at least three times a day. Got her a chicken bra which really helped to lift and support the crop. Been treating drinking water with a vitamin/mineral mix along with probiotics. I alternate with straight water with ACV. She never acts sick, still lays eggs and poops. Nothing else I know to do. Retired so vets are out of the question. I tried to make her vomit several times. Nothing.

Best video out there for these issues. Question: Do you think black oil sunflower seeds contribute to impaction and/or sour crop. I've lost hens that started with a poopy butt, i wormed them and they seem active and ok, and then suddenly die and i noticed an enlarged crop that is boggy feeling. Upon inspection, their body condition is too thin. My chickens dont let me catch them for routine inspection unless they are not feeling 100%. I dont know if the sunflower seeds are a problem.

Love the order of information presented. Easy to follow. For future reference: Candida albicans as you stated is a yeast but you then refer to bacterial infection. Yeast is of fungi (fungus/mold) which are different from bacteria and viruses.

How long should I wait for treatment to take effect? I'm on day 2 of isolation/ no solids, day 1 of actual treatment with some yeast meds & Greek yogurt. Her crop is smaller today, but still squishy. How long can I expect her crop to be squishy for? Any thoughts are appreciated. Thanks again for your time!! 🙋🏼‍♀️💛✋🐓🇨🇦

O one of my teenagers started having enlarged and squishy on both sides, first day just one side was swollen. I did manage to massage and express fluid out without any problems and it had no smell, was a light brownish green in color with what looked like little tiny pieces of food, and a few bubbles would pop out once in a while. I can feel little things built up in the bottom of the crop like maybe grit that isn’t going down, all little tiny objects, nothing balled up. I have emptied the crop twice today and have her in a cage by herself within the coop with only water supplied although I did find her stretching her neck pretty far to sneak some food from a nearby feeder, problem fixed now! Such a sweet little thing.

I came across this video because I have no idea what’s wrong with one of our chickens. She eats and drinks fine but she is always “slower” than any other chicken like she is super chill and lax and kinda slower than the rest. She also poops straight up liquid most of the time the liquid is clear with some texture from the food but it’s almost like she is peeing. (I know this is not the case and this isn’t normal) I think I did see her “throw up” once and I was very confused to see liquid coming out of her beak. After seeing this video I wonder if it’s sour crop? Because it doesn’t smell bad. Help??

I bought Monistat 7 for 6.00 yesterday at Walmart. Giving .5ml twice a day. It comes in a tube if you make a scrambled egg and put about a 1/4 of a teaspoon in it. I only fed my hen a small amount of the egg and refrigerated the leftover for future medication doses.
