The Sony 24 - 50 f2.8 looks like an AMAZING lens. I'm just not buying it. And price isn't my only factor in this decision. Maybe if the timing was different or my priorities were different, I would be drooling over this lens, but not right now.

While I don't disagree with your comments about primes being smaller, there is something to be said about one lens that stays on your camera. So if I'm out shooting, to have three prime focal lengths, I have to carry a bag and have two of the lenses in the bag. So is it lighter in total weight? Is it as convenient? And at this point, optical performance of zooms have closed the gap vs primes. If this was a 20-50 f2.8 , it would be homerun. But as is, I see a place for this lens. I had a 24-70 f2.8 and while great for events and wedding, was too big and heavy for casual carry and travel. And frankly, I find 70mm to short for portraits anyway. So I would have an 85mm with me even with a 24-70. The Tamron 17-70 f2.8 is a great option, no doubt. Hadn't considered it for my setup.

I see both points, but I stand by my opinion in the video. I think the focal range is just strange. I also think it depends on scenario. If I'm out shooting street or just have my camera with me, I'd most likely bring 1-2 lenses for the sake of convenience.
The 17-70 is solid for crop sensors and definitely way lighter than the 24-70. While the 24-50 doesn't fit my needs, I'm sure it fits someone's as Sony has sold a lot of them 😅 Cheers!

You are making it sound like it's an apsc lens. Its a FF lens. There js minimal vignetting but not like the way you sre making it sound. Have you used it?

      Thanks for the comment.
I acknowledged the difference around the 0:45 mark.
For the vignetting I was referring to the apsc lens.
I haven’t used the lens because I don’t see the need for it in my kit.
I’m sure it’s excellent quality. Just not something I’m looking for right now.

Of course this focal length is trash

I wouldn't say it's trash. I just think it's geared towards people who don't need the extra reach. It's also probably a cash grab by Sony. 🤷🏾‍♂️
