SCTV does not get enough praise for what that special time met!
A long time ago I was visiting Chicago for work. It was early in my career and it was my first business trip and out of the country for that matter. It was early 1972, before Joe really became famous. He was getting out of his struggling actor phase of his career at that time. I know because he was my cab driver from the airport to my hotel. He was a really good driver, to be honest. I was impressed with his ability to be proactive in traffic and drive without distraction AND he was able to keep up a conversation. I told him I enjoyed the ride and the few small roles he had played before being on SCTV. He was genuinely humble and appreciated my praise. As I got out of the cab, he had already sprung out and pulled my suitcase from the trunk. He handed me his business card and told me to call him directly if I needed a ride anywhere while I was in town. I read the card and under his name, written in italics, was "Flaherty will get you everywhere."
You'll be missed, Joe.
R.I.P. Joe Flaherty. You and the SCTV gang was my childhood and the comedy sketch you share and made many laugh will be missed...

Honestly, this looks more like an SCTV sketch than a kids program. Brilliant quirky humor. He was great in any character.

Sad news! RIP Joe! So many characters so many laughs. In our minds he never grew old because we all aged with him and our memories. To us it was yesterday.😢😢

Thanks. Joe was one of my favorite comedians, a master of sketch work. He grounded absurdity and brought warmth to darkness, and he always made me laugh. This is a nice showcase for him that I'd never seen before.

Mathmakers was a real television show that aired on daytime educational television on PBS in the early 1980s, but this doesn’t quite look like it, especially because Joe Flaherty is in it. RIP Joe.

First, I learned Joe Flaherty passed asay on April Fool's Day.
Then, I learned Canada did Square One TV almost a DECADE before the States did and called it MathMakers.
