I think I would opt for the harness to route above the spare to Keep it out of the way if you need to bring the spare down. Really good video especially the tip about resting the hutch on the muffler to help get the opposing bolts in. One of the best install videos I've seen in years. Good job!
Pretty good video and minimal tools. One thing I struggled with were the muffler hanger grommets. The instructions has a good tip using an open end wrench against the grommet stop, slip the flat head screwdriver between and you can push the grommet over the first barb. Once that’s done you can wiggle the muffler off. Also, beware Curt supplies square cut bolts, (no taper start) total PITA to get them to start. Resting the hitch on the muffler really make this a lot safer install.
Dealership was going to charge me 400$ to do this job. Your video has been super helpful!
Hello Bertito, I am glad you found the video useful. Thanks for Watching!
Thank you so much. The RV Dealership was telling it's a 5 hour job just to install the wiring for this truck but this certainly shows they are vastly overestimating.
Hello and thank you for watching my video. It does not surprise me that the dealership quoted you that long however I found the job to be very simple and this was my first time. I did not have any issues with mine and used it to tow many things. Thank you for supporting my channel.
I just got my 2022 Santa Cruz 2 days ago, and Im getting my hitch ASAP, great video, very easy to follow!
I am glad you found it useful. I have really enjoyed mine so far and it even gets decent gas milage. Thanks for watching!
Just got my blue SEL Premium SC today! Already trying to figure out towing for a future camper. Your channel and video were a great find!
I am glad you are enjoying the content and Thanks for Watching!
I felt like a contortionist installing the hitch on my SC by myself! Awesome video!
I am glad you found the video useful and Thanks for Watching!
Great job making this video! Very helpful!
Hello Rivers, I’m glad you enjoyed the video and found it useful. Thanks for watching!
Ruby, thank you for this informative video. After watching I bought a hitch and installed it in under an hour. Your vid is an awesome resource.
Hello xpdwheel, Thank you for the compliment. I am so glad you found the video useful and thank you for watching and supporting my channel!
Just installed ours yesterday. This video was really helpful. Thanks for taking the time to do such a helpful video.
Hello, You are very welcome! I am so glad you found the video useful.
Thank you so much for watching!
Thank you for the video. Made the install look easy.
Hello Susie, Glad the video helped. Thanks for watching!
Thanks for posting about this. I was trying to find a 7 pin harness for my 23 Limited.
Great video, I'll be installing a Curt hitch on my new Santa Fe, it's the same configuration. Useful to know that you can rest it on the muffler to get that bottom bolt started, great tip thank you!!
Hello Darren, Glad you found the video helpful. Thank you for watching and supporting my channel!
Great job on the video. Thanks for sharing
Thanks for Watching!
You're Fierce! i put mine on and it was challenging with one person. Nice job!
I just took my time and everything seemed to work. Getting the exhaust hangers off was probably the hardest part. Thanks for Watching!
Thanks for the awesome video and the links to the hitch and harness.
Glad you found the video and links useful and Thanks for Watching!
Thanks for a clear concise video on how to do this. I’m going to be adding my hitch soon!
Hello Paul, It was a fairly straight forward project. Good luck and thanks for watching!
Thanks Ruby! My hitch installation went fine. Now I need to purchase the wire harness and mount.
My hitch I intend to used mainly to haul my motorcycle. I’m looking for info on how to redistribute the weight when I put my 400lb motorcycle hanging off the back. Maybe Air shocks? Any tips?
Great video. Thank's for doing it.
Hope it helps and thanks for watching!
i am glad you didnt have the same problem as i did , after i bought the hitch from etrailer the same ones are half the price at nape auto parts :D . i my hits was a litle bent so did not line up right had to streach it first
The hitch not lining up properly seems to be a common issue that people seem to correct by first getting all the bolts started and then tightening the bolts and forcing the hitch to bend into place. Thanks for Watching!
Wow you are definitely a big help. This video was sooooooo helpful. Thanks I will be ordering mine soon
Glad it was helpful and Thanks for Watching!
GREAT JOB!
Thanks for Watching!
Thanks for the Video and Product Info! I just installed the Trailer Hitch OEM Version on my Santa Cruz, but haven't had any success with purchasing the 7 PIN Wiring Harness. Hyundai Parts Department keeps telling me that they Only carry the 4 PIN Connector. Once again Thanks for the Product Info!
Yes, Hyundai will not tell you that the Kia one works just fine. Thanks for Watching!
@@Adventure-Mom Why use the 7-pin connector? It doesn't have a brake controller, right?
I'm strongly considering this vehicle. Glad to know I can add this myself. Thanks.
Yes, you should not have a problem is you have the right tools. Thanks for watching!
Thanks. Your video is very clear and well done. @@Adventure-Mom
funny just watched your video about the barefoot, was watching cause we just bought a sata cruz.....and here you again putting on the hitch,,,,which was the second search I did, you came up for both !.....thx for the videos
Hello Ron, You are very welcome. I am so glad you are finding the videos useful. Thank you so much for watching!
Excellent -- thank you.
Hello Patrick, Thanks for Watching!
Great job
Thanks for Watching!
RM yet another amazing video and job well done. The Santa Cruz is pretty enticing to say the least. Are you keeping the 19p or is this a replacement?
John, I purchased the Santa Cruz as I need a truck for towing and moving things so I am just adding. The Sanctuary and I are getting ready to take a trip tomorrow so I should have another RV video coming soon. Thanks for Watching!
Very cool!
Hello Jonathan, thanks for watching!
Hi Ruby, very good video awesome job. Have you purchased any other accessories for your SC if so who is the best to buy from.❤
Good stuff
I love the videos on your Class B. Being in Florida do you keep the A/C running even when you have it parked on your driveway for extended time?
No, When parked I do install the thermo reflective window coverings to protect the interior. Also, I do try to drive it at least once a week ... just like any other car. Thanks for Watching!
great video. can you tell me if the hitch you used on 2022 can be used on 2023 santa cruz?
One final step before reinstalling the muffler hangers….paint it black (at least the part that shows from behind the truck).
Great video thank you. Did you end up doing a brake controller? If so, was it wired or wireless? Thanks!
No, I have not done the brake controller yet as I have not needed it. Thanks for Watching!
Enjoy all your Class b tours. But this is a switch. Looking at this Hyundai to purchase to haul our wolf pup trailer. Can i ask, what are you planning on towing? Great videos. Thanks for your effort. Merry Christmas.
I will be videoing more RVs soon. The Santa Cruz will be used for towing about 3000-4000 lbs and running back and forth to the local hardware/garden stores. Thanks for Watching!
I paid to have mine installed was like $120. Well worth it. I tow a 21 ft camper
Yes, I wanted to as well but everyone was backed up for months so I did it myself. Thanks for watching1
Hi good morning I just watched your tutorial thank you. Just wondering where you picked up the hitch from I was going to order it from Hyundai but they don’t put the harness in the box I have to buy that separately you said everything came together with the one you bought so just wondering where you bought it from?
I ordered the hitch through etrailer and the wiring harness through Kia. Thanks for Watching!
Great video, altho I would have liked to see more of the actual process instead of skipping ahead to the completed task (such as actually installing the bolts, removing and attaching the muffler hangers, etc.). Also, a few of the video angles were confusing. Otherwise, a very well-done video!
It was difficult to get good angles and record while tightening the bolts but I tried to show the before and after. Thanks for Watching!
Which wiring harness mount did you end up getting? I have the "CURT 13486" hitch and I do not see any wiring harness bracket mounting points.
What you'll need to know.
1. Having small hands is necessary for the placement of some of these bolts.
2. The bolts do fit, but they're hard to get started.
3. That thing is heavy. I couldn't do it on my own. Have an extra set of hands or two to hold it in place.
4. I was able to get the bolts in using two three inch extensions on a socket wrench for one on the exhaust side, a single three extension for the second bottom bolt, and no extension for the top bolt (used a smallish socket wrench).
For those wondering, the Santa Cruz is an fantastic carck (car/truck). Fun to drive. Do NOT get the base model. The Limited and Premium are great. My son has one, we have the other. Pricey but worth every penny.
Thanks Rob for your input, I agree that it is a great little truck. Thanks for Watching!
❤️
Thanks for watching!
Useful video! Did you happen to get and install the bracket for the T connector? Not sure where to install that bracket
I did eventually add the outlet but used zip ties to secure it in place. It has worked great. Thanks for Watching
You have made the install look very easy. My dealer was very screwed up about the install. Wanted four hours @$195 per hr. to install. UGH! I almost told the salesman I'd buy a Ford Maverick.
Did you purchase the Kia harness because the dealer didn't have an EOM harness?
Hello Tom, It is actual a fairly easy job but it is heavy. I purchased the Kia Harness because I wanted a 7 pin connector and the Kia harness fits perfectly. Thanks for Watching!
very helpful indeed.....but i couldn't keep my hands as cleaned as yours.. or as blood free
Hello Jose, I completely understand as I found that I had to be very careful trying to get those bolts in. Thanks for watching!
Hello I just purchased a santa cruz. I wanted to know if you have pulled a trailer with it. Did you have to add a trailer brake controller to the truck? Thank you!
Hello Heather, I have pulled many things with it right upto about 5000lbs and I do not have a brake controller. I am of course very careful with heavy loads. Thanks for supporting my channel.
How did you determine that the KIA harness would work/compatible ? Hyundai only has a 4 pin harness available.
Hello Johnny, I did some online research and found a forum in which multiple people had tried it. I gave it a shot and I can confirm that it works perfectly and clips right on. Thanks for Watching!
Do you mind letting me know what the part number of the 7 pin harness you got was? I’m looking for a palisade and I believe it should work too but I’m in Canada and need to order from the states.
Sure, The KIA part number is S9F67-AC500 Trailer Tow Harness and cost me $149.18. Thanks for watching!
This will work as a 4 pin? Then later you add the brake controller up to 7pins? Not clear how that would work.
@@nose2wind872 They make a plug in adapter for the 7 pin to 4 pin plug
🎉
Hello Norman, thanks for watching! 🤗
Great job, the Santa Cruz deffinatly has my attention. They're a little pricey, but what you get in it I think its worth it. Im more than likely going limited awd model
So far I am enjoying mine and it has come in very handy for working around the house. Thanks for Watching!
👏👌🙏
Thanks for Watching!
So 68lb torque?
Good chance I'll be getting Santa Cruz
I really like mine so far. Very comfortable, easy to drive, good size bed for small home projects, and able to tow 5000lbs. Great all around vehicle. Thanks for Watching!
@@Adventure-Mom yeah, youve got a cool looking ride.every video I've seen everyone says they drive great.
Hi How long did it take to installed?
I took my time to video the install so it took me longer ... a couple of hours. Thanks for Watching!
Did you find the mount for the 7 pin harness?
No, I have had no need to as the the zip ties have worked out great so far but eventually I will. Thanks for Watching!
Which trim do I need for this? The premium or The Limited?
Mine is a premium which has the same engine transmission as the limited. Thanks for watching!
Great job very informative.
Hello Tommy, Glad it was helpful! Thanks for watching and Happy Holidays!
Hello i have tuscon 2022 and İ only found 4 pin flat on the web. May i ask you if you can recommend me 13 pin European one ?
Sorry, I really would not know the European pin connection. Thanks for Watching!
I just went to the Kia site via the link you provided and the 7 pin harness is no longer available for purchase. Very strange.
I wish you show how you remove and lower the muffler , and the valueme too low how come?
Can you show a video where to put 7 pin conector
Hello Joshua, I have not done anything different with the 7 pin connector yet as it has been working fine. I will make a video once I find a better location. Thanks for Watching!
Great job but please:Turn up the volume🙃
Thanks for the feedback and Thanks for Watching!
Yeah 65 ft/lbs is wayyyy not tight enough at least in my professional oppinion. Depending on the actual bolt size and grade you should be able to tighten it to 75-90 ft/lbs. Im not saying they are going to back out or anything but for added security if you were going to throw the spec out the window you at least should have used loctite.
I agree that loctite would be beneficial as I have had bolts back out of a hitch before. Thanks for Watching!
No thank you for making the video to begin with. I just installed mine 2 weeks ago. Alot different than im used to. Definitely had to come up with some innovative ways to torque all the bolts.
@@Adventure-Mom also totally not meaning to sound brash or dickish, ive just had alot of experiances where high stress fastners were used incorrectly or put "good and tight" with those split ring "lock washers" that really dont lock anything, and they back out causong alot of damage and safety concerns. Mostly because the person installing "has done it for years and is so good he can feel the difference between 50 and 60 ftlbs." Props though for actually using a torque wrench. Some "technicians" think they are foreign and dont own a single one lol
Why would you want to do this instead of just buying the Hyundai hitch and having it installed at the dealer? Did you buy the car used and it came without it? Is this better/cheaper?
The hitches were not available from Hyundai (new or used) and most places are taking appointments weeks out. I purchased mine new and I was lucky just to find one at MSRP (no mark-up). DIY is much less expensive than having the dealership do it, but I would have preferred to have it dealer installed. Thanks for Watching!
My Curt hitch from eTrailer showed up scratched all over and had previously been installed on a vehicle, spent a lot of time touching up the paint on a previously installed/used item (paid full price I might add), I could tell where the bolt holes are, you could see where the lock washers had made contact with the metal from previous install. Also, my hitch is too narrow, I had to use washers on the passenger side of the vehicle where the side bolts meet the frame, there was about a half inch gap where the hitch meets the frame. Spoke to eTrailer, they are worthless, mine didn't come with instructions either but they were kind enough to send me a link telling me how to bend the hitch back into shape, claiming it had been bent in transit, why did all the bolt holes line up if it had been bent in transit, I can see no visual clues that it's bent in any way. My third and last purchase from eTrailers!
Sorry to hear you had that experience. Mine seemed like it was not wide enough either but after I tightened the bolts down it seemed to fit fine. I hate the fact that some manufacturers will ship out returned products without refurbishing them and labelling them as such. Thanks for watching!
Thanks, but like many others, I found the Curt hitch at least 1/2" short, side to side. I'm a engineer with many years fab experience, this is just bad fabrication. Would have went with factory if I knew it was built this bad.
Mine was short as well but I was able to use the bolts to pull it into the right place. Thanks for Watching!
Nice job, its a shame the hitch is not incorporated into the bumper. It looks like an afterthought from Hyundai
Hello Laszlo, Thanks for the compliment and I agree Hyundai could have designed this better. Thanks for Watching!
@@Adventure-Mom With that said I would buy one. Its a toss up between the Ridgeline
You can also start one or two of the passenger-side bolts before dropping the muffler. That holds up the hitch while you remove the hangers.
Thanks for providing that feedback for others to learn from. Thanks for watching!
Why does Kia say it’s no longer available for the 7 pin tow harness , you can just never ever get one again??
I am not sure about that, they probably will have another part number. Thanks for watching!
is this the Turbo Santa Cruz that can tow 5000 lbs or the non Turbo that can tow a max of 350
I have the non turbo version rated at 3500 lbs but everything I've read is that it is only wired for a 4 pin
I have the turbo model with a 5000lbs towing capacity. I am using the 7 pin connection as sometime it is required. I have a converter that makes the 7 pin a 4 pin so I can use both. The wiring harness on our tracks are the same. Thanks for Watching!
@@Adventure-Mom EDIT: Sorry I see now in your video you show it has wiring for the brake controller that isn't installed yet. Gonna leave the comment below since a lot of people might not realize the 3500 max for FWD/AWD and 5000 max for AWD Turbo both require a trailer brake controller to safely tow those loads. Otherwise you're rated at less than 2000lbs towing.
But you don't have a brake controller, right? So you aren't actually rated for 5000 lbs?
2022 Hyundai Santa Cruz Towing Capacity Per Model
1,650 pounds Santa Cruz 2.5L FWD, without Trailer Brakes
1,650 pounds Santa Cruz 2.5L AWD, without Trailer Brakes

3,500 pounds Santa Cruz 2.5L AWD, with Trailer Brakes
