How are you enjoying your academy 10? I live in Bangor Maine so it’s a similar climate to where you are or at least somewhat close. Are you having to place a humidity pack in the case or soundhole?

Hi there! I am only two weeks in getting back to playing guitar. At first my fingers started to hurt and blister, but I found out that that was because I was pressing too hard when I fret my chords. Right now calluses are starting to develop on my fingertips, which helps ease the pain whenever I play. The Academy 10e sounds great, well, at least to my opinion. I am not that skilled enough to really make it sing, but sometimes when I strum just the right way it sounds really good. Sustain is very good too! It feels very light. That cut portion at the edge where you can rest your right arm is very comfortable. It also keeps tune nicely; I had to re-tune it a number of times at first but after the strings have stretched enough, I never had to tune it again since. The action of the strings out-of-the box is low enough, I think, though down the road I might bring it in to the store to have it checked for set up, but right now it plays nicely. I bought an Oasis Plus Guitar Humidifier, yes, one of those that you stick in the sound hole, so that my guitar is properly humidified. I bought a hygrometer to monitor the humidity of where I keep the guitar and I keep the humidity at 40% for now (we are just entering Spring here in Alberta Canada as of this writing, so humidity was really low, at around 35%, when I first got the guitar). Since I keep the guitar on a stand and have yet to store it in the gig bag, I just make sure to monitor the room humidity and stick the Oasis humidifier in the sound hole anytime I am not using the guitar.

What's the wood used for the neck?

As per Taylor Guitar's website, neck is torrefied maple, with West African Crelicam Ebony fretboard and Italian acrylic inlays.
