  • Got this flying at last ,and it flies beautifully! One wing panel is warped ( old, secondhand airframe, not built by me ) I'd cranked up one aileron to offset this warp which was worrying me, but no need to worry. needed no aileron trim at all, just a few clicks of down trim. The 4S2P 21700 Molicel P45B's provided plenty of power for 2 flights, 10 minutes each.
First flight, the home built Arduino BLE33 board worked great for headtracking, on this flight, the second has a peculiar glitch, where it occasional jams over to the left, which made my FPV flight 'interesting' to say the least..
I'll get on to fixing that, but the 03 video footage, is really exceptional.
Let me know what you think in the comments.

Thanks mate, it was indeed a, welcome surprise to me that it flew so well despite the hours and hours of work I invested in it, really pleased and again thanks for helping out.

Another lovely job Matt - paint and surface finish is very realistic.

Thanks John. She's a bit tatty being old, but think it adds to it 🙂

It's an Emax motor running a, 13 x 6 APC, I'll check it and get back later. Plenty of power though.
    Glad you enjoyed it!

That's awesome but I think you should slow down the servos to give it a more realistic head movement

I'm having problems with the headtracker, it shouldn't look like that, but occasionally doing it's own thing, which is my next job to fix.

That was great. My all time favourite model. Thanks. Any details on motor/battery??

That look left thing is really annoying, apart from that it gives a perfect representation off WW1 flying.

I know, it's annoying me badly too, I was going to delete those scenes, but kept them in, as I'm sending this video to the software creator of this board to see if he can help get it straightened out. Hopefully next time none of that!
Thanks though, it does give a good impression of flying a WW1 aircraft 👍

@@mattyboy47 First of all, let that's a neat setup. I like it.
Until you get the "look left" glitch resolved, you might want to put an override switch the on your transmitter that forces the camera to a fixed "failsafe" position (centered, or maybe just off center). That way you could turn off head tracking on command and avoid the glitch when doing things like landing that don't have a lot of room for error. I use that on all my planes with head trackers or pan & tilt setups and it has saved me from at least one crash (caused by human error, not faulty hardware)
As for the glitch, did you reposition the BLE33 on your goggles between your use and your spotter's use of the head tracker? Did you have any other electronics, large pieces of metal, or magnets on your head? The reason I'm asking is the BLE33 uses both gyros and a magnetometer to track your head's motion and prevent drift. I'm wondering if something was interfering with the magnetometer and changing its readings.... similar to how putting a magnet next to a compass will change the direction of the compass needle.

I cheated and overlaid a soundtrack from a full size in cockpit recording. 🙂
