  • Matt, Betsy and Andy Bombeck chat with playwrights Allison and Margaret Engel and actress Barbara Chisholm following a staged reading of Erma Bombeck: At Wit’s End at the 2016 Erma Bombeck Writers’ Workshop at the University of Dayton.
“She’s one of my heroes now,” said Barbara Chisholm, who portrayed Erma in the production’s world premiere at Arena Stage in Washington, D.C., in fall 2015. “I feel she is one of the most gifted, human, remarkable writers America has ever produced.”

I am re-reading my Irma books now, as a Gramma, as I wonder and wish she became a gramma, and so hope that she did ! I think I can tell which son is which in like 3 seconds ! When my kids were little, I really didn’t “get” her grumpy teen references......(how awful !🙄) ....then, when I was experiencing the horror or of a fourteen-year-old, I remembered her words, tried to smile, and was comforted by them....ten years later... ❤️
