I love the hobby idea but I worry that personally it would lead to me buying tat I don't need

I definitely understand that!! For most of the hobbies I picked, I already own what I would need or can find things secondhand pretty easily. If you're interested in trying new hobbies maybe pick ones that would be in the similar boat for you, or things you could borrow from family & friends!
