    Great work. Thanks. Can you make a video for selecting different secondary winding tapping voltages with relay as you change output voltage? As you said in your first video, the transistors heat up quite a lot at low differential voltage. I tried with comparators and it switches the relay, but the problem is, that the output voltage jumps much higher than desired as the relay function and require re adjusting the pot to come to the desired lower voltage. Your circuit is working great and I am using it as my primary bench power supply. Thanks man..

    this is a linear p/s. if it goes to 35V then you need to have an input supply of 40V when you have 5 Amp load. with 40 Vinput and 17V out there is 5*(40-17V)= 115 Watts in the 2N3055 Transistor. Even with 3 Amps out the dissipation in the 2N3055 is 70Watts. Needs a BIG heatsink. Why did you not make it a switcher?

      @UpcycleElectronics Před 6 lety +3

      Nirmal Biswas
      He has a few more designs on his Russian language channel but I don't know if any are dual polarity. The easiest way to create a dual polarity supply is to just use 2 separate identical supplies.
      You can also use a single transformer that has 2 separate secondary windings. "Separate" means totally isolated secondary windings. If all you have in a center tapped secondary winding you can find the lead with a looped connection, cut the loop, then terminate the 2 halves separately. I am obviously assuming that the winding with the center tap is a "center" tap. You need to be sure that both halves of the winding have the same output, (some transformers will have one rail that is smaller than the other). This is usually quite clear to see on the circuit the transformer came from. If both halves of the rectifier circuit have the same size diodes and capacitors, both halves of the secondary output are going to be equal.
      After you have 2 separate secondary windings, you can build 2 separate positive power supplies just like the one shown here in this video. After you build both power supplies, you treat the output and ground terminals of each power supply circuit just like a battery. You can place them in parallel or in series.
      Let's say for example you have +12 volts from supply "A" and +12 volts on supply "B." If you connect the positive output of supply "A" to the negative output of the supply "B"
      [GND] "A" (+)[-] "B" (V+)
      ...you now have a 24 volt supply from [GND] "A" to "B" (V+). If you connect the center point between these two supplies to your load/circuit your supplying power to as the ground terminal for your circuit you will have a dual polarity supply.
      This setup is great for low current circuits like op amps. It begins to show it's flaws when you start drawing large uneven currents from the different windings.
      If you want a really stable dual polarity supply, your looking for a dual tracking supply. These are a bit harder to build. I haven't found a circuit I really like for this myself although I have tried a couple that didn't work well at all.
      My favorite solution has been to modify the output of a HP laptop/printer power supply. Most of the old ones from the late '90's and early 2000's were dual polarity. They are basic single feedback loop switch mode power supplies with a center tapped secondary. You can modify the resistor voltage divider for the secondary TL431 voltage reference by adding a potentiometer in place of one of the divider resistors. It is the same process I showed in an older video on my channel. By modifying an HP power supply like this you will have an adjustable dual polarity supply that can output from around +/-9 volts to +/-18 volts. I have modified a few of these. They work well for basic op amp and audio amplifier testing.
      Be sure you fully understand the risks involved with such a potentially deadly circuit before attempting anything like this. Assume every capacitor that has ever or might have been connected to power is fully charged, that every mistake will kill you, check everything with a meter twice, and never leave a hacked or modified circuit unattended unless you have a degree in electrical engineering.
      That's just my $0.002
      -Jake

    • @freddiemortos8519
      @freddiemortos8519 Před 6 lety +1

      Akash Banerjee you can buy multiturn trimmer resistor in different values from 100 ohms up to mega-ohms.. You can replace those multiturn resistor with the ordinary trimmer resistor,but the adjustment is a little bit tricky,it's not a big deal though in this circuit since it is not that critical.
