I think you summed it up at the end perfectly. It’s the quintessence of their aesthetic. Beautiful videography really showed it off. Also, just a thank you, because there’s not a chance anyone else is going to review this for us. One of my favorite episodes in all these years ( of which there have been many !! )
I much prefer their more subtle dial treatments. In my mind, they are at their best when they use restraint and subtly. I want a watch that draws me in for a closer look and maybe holds something back for a special occasion. I’ve got an SBGW269, it’s a European edition overshadowed by a similar edition with a lighter dial color… photos never do it justice, it’s understated, but right when you need it, it dazzles.
Exceptional review as always with stunning shots. I do appreciate the unbiased reviews no matter the price point or the brand of the watch. Well done and thank you.
Hi! Let me say that you're probably my favorite watch reviewer on CZcams, I like that you speak from your heart and provide an objective and detailed overview of each piece. Cherry on the cake is that you show watches on different straps, which I believe almost nobody is doing. Thanks and keep up the marvelous job!
Great review, very thorough, plus 5mins+ of gorgeous macro. The QC is impressive. Although not as striking, as birch say, because of its subtle non-uniform texture, at different angles of natural sunlight, you could think the dial is flawed. But under a loupe, realise its by design. A very impressive and versatile watch. GS are getting smaller and thinner, this case at 37mm would be perfect.
I always want a Grand Seiko. I had Omega, Longines, and Seikos. I love the dial work on my Seikos and I want to see the next level. I probably get a Grand Seiko as my next luxury watch.
I purchased a vario blue strap after watching this video goes great with my SBGY023. Great watch the dial is mesmerizing and love the overall case shape. Thanks for the very well done video and strap suggestion.
I think this is my favourite watch you've reviewed so far (and I've watched all of your videos lol). I love the restraint of the design language here. It's just enough to keep you fascinated. On point with the straps too! Keep up the good work. I'm thinking of purchasing a SBGA413 soon (Shunbun), but this is making me reconsider!
That is a lovely watch in person. And yes I do like that one more than this one 😂 but of course for the multiple of price, you’d hope that would be the case
Big Grand Seiko fan, but having owned a Spring Drive (stunning finish) I paid less than $3k for and a Seiko Houjou (similar dial - flawless under loupe), I fail to see why this watch is $5k more than the Spring Drive I bought. Lovely watch this, no doubt.
I'm usually not a huge GS fan and this one doesn't quite do it for me but its a lot closer than most GS I see. Honestly a lot of that just has to do with good your review is, I've held many GS in person, even this model with a different dial and I didn't see half of the stuff that you captured here. That Tradition is something else though, love that, def a grail of mine.
Haha thank you! It is always fun finding details you’ve never noticed before. I’ve seen watches with this movement. Dozens of times but never noticed how the movement has those engraved and filled areas. Learn something new everyday. And thank you, the Breguet it definitely a special piece. So much depth to it
This is an amazing watch and perfect example of art in motion. Anyone wondering how they get that "Grand Seiko" print to be 3D like that? It doesn't look like an illusion and actual depth like what you get with oil paintings. I wonder why most spring drives hide so much of the inner workings? Maybe they dint want to show any of the electronic of the Spring Drive. Also, that watchmaking got docked 2 weeks pay for that imperfection. 😅
Great review - I had the original SBGY003 and it was such a beautiful watch. This version looks really interesting with the grey dial too, great overview! The issue I had with this case was not just the 3atm, but it felt too delicate for a daily wear, which is what I was looking for personally. My question is, how does this compare to the new manual wind 44GS models (SBGY011)? Cause I’m intrigued haha
Being as a product in Elegance line, it should be felt delicate. 44GS should be more robust for you, but those meticulously polished planes may stress you a lot.
Lovely review - I wished the 9R31 movement was a bit more similar to the Credor 7R88 manual spring drive, since they are roughly in the same price bracket. It adds some Tokyo stripes and main plate design elements. Also a bit less Trypophobia compared to the 9R31. 😅
With Grand Seiko, it’s all about the details. Super sharp and refined. They are like miniature pieces of art.

Too kind Michael! Glad you enjoyed. 2023 is off to a Good start it seems haha this one was a tough one to not hold onto

that blue strap is perfect for it. Awesome watch!
I have almost the exact same watch. Same dimensions but quartz and champagne sunray dial. Its so beautiful.
@@managua-san8075 absolutely, it’s a shape that wears so well on wrist

This watch dial reminds me of the rock face Alpinist dial. Looks very lovely 😍

Happy to hear it! Pairs so well hope you enjoy it

Nice strap pairings!
Best SBGY till yet!
This would complement my White Birch nicely if I can find one. Thanks for an informative and entertaining review.
Great review. I have the sbgy026. I think you'd love that one even more.

Hi, can you confirm the brand and model from your dark purple strap? Im looking for a similar one. Thks in advance
Extra good .
Is this the same case as the omiwatari?
No
first thing I'd do is put a pin buckle on that thing. Beautiful watch otherwise. On my want list!

That index finger seems to have a life of its own.
Seems to
A nice new model but still not goid enough for me to buy one.
They'll keep trying!
@@michaelfierman3256 The beat Elegance line model for me is the first one, SBGZ001. Sadly at that time I didn't have the budget.
I refuse to buy any high end watch with just 30m water resistance, no matter how beautiful. Hard pass.
It’s a non issue.
