  • EDIT: I made German subtitles for this video! Feel free to rate 'em in the comments!
    Hoooo boy. I have wanted to review this one for almost an entire year, and I'm surprised that more people haven't already. Competitiveness of the indie gaming market aside, there is either extremely little market for games like these or a heck of a lot, depending on whether you take it seriously or not.
    Fun fact, this video really did not want to get made. Dev suffered so many setbacks when making this that it almost became an injoke xP But we got it out eventually ^^
    Thank you to Devstar2000 for his amazing editing, and to kucharkos for some of the extra footage.
    Equal parts thanks and no thanks to Rail Slave for endorsing this review and making this game.
    No thanks at all to IndieGala for introducing me to this game.

    Trust me, you don't wanna buy this game. Buy something else instead - preferably on Humble Bundle through this link so you can support the channel as well as charity:

    But I suppose if you feel masochistic, here's a store link anyways.

  • @plasticflower
    @plasticflower Před 2 lety

    So you're talking about DOS shovelware while you're displaying a clip from Commander Keen? I'm personally offended by this! ... just kidding. Seriously though, I'm going to be a pedant here and point out that the early Keen games were milestones as far as DOS platformers are concerned. John Carmack (of Doom and Quake fame) managed to produce smoother scrolling on DOS than what other games had. It might look shabby compared to SNES or Amiga games, but it's far from being shovelware.
    Btw. about the Giraffe in the context to christianity, what comes to my mind is an argument made by Richard Dawkins or so about the laryngeal nerve in a giraffe's neck, which he says proves evolution because it's not something that would be made by design (or creationism for that matter) and instead is a product of evolution leading to giraffes necks becoming longer and longer over the generations. So yeah if you want to apply symbolism you might say the final boss is atheism represented as a giraffe. Just in case you ever wanted to make a serious video analyzing the deep profundity of this game. :P

      Tbh the reason I used that was because I didn't actually have any early 90s DOS shovelware to record xP The illustration here is more supposed to be that the game looks too good to reasonably pass as 90s shovelware; the best games at that time didn't look as good as this one.
      As for the giraffe thing, Rail Slave's DMs were open last I checked so we could ask him ourselves...

    • @plasticflower
      @plasticflower Před 2 lety

      @@DeuteriumtheSentientMattress Haha yeah I figured.
      I played a lot of DOS games back in the day and yes, if Uriel's Chasm had been released back then, it would have looked comparably good. But there's for example Raptor Call of the Shadows which looks sort of similar and was released in 94.
      Oh and if you really ask the dev about the giraffe and he responds, please tell me what he said. :D
