This is great an all but what you should do is throw a canvas drop cloth over while you break it up. Keeps the shards from flying all over the place and from flying into your skin that ceramic coating is sharp as hell
cloth will dampen the impact and make the hammer slip easier. Just wear proper safety gear and you'll be alright
Thanks.
I now feel like I can get this old beast out of my second floor without having to pay to get her done.
I've done hundreds of these and man you gotta hit that tub hard..BUT YOU SHOULD DROP A DROP CLOTH OVER IT FOR GLASS SHARDS STICKING IN YOU... I'm Doing a door incert in a cast iron tub now and it has to be cut..best way if 💎 sawsall blades don't work is 💎 grinder blade. I'm vey critical of most so called carpenters but I enjoyed yours. Good job
Great information for sure.
2:25 You can use a grinder with a metal cutting wheel so you can cut it into four sections so you can remove it in pieces. The sledgehammer is doable, but you will have a huge mess to clean.
Works ok for steel baths but not cast iron. Cast iron is brittle and hard. You will use up 20 wheels on a cast iron and give yourself vibration issues. Sledgehammer is must cheaper and FASTER.
This little czcams.com/users/postUgkxVoi3B4CB6Oygq1-vo4OTL1M_M5JkrXif tub works perfect in our 6 x 6 shower and is easy to get in and out. Also easy to drain.
Thank you. I have a 70 year old tub which wore badly. I made the mistake of refinishing it, and now it's flaking. I want a whirlpool tub with jets for my back, which is the same age as the tub. (My back is the same age as the tub, not my desired replacement. ;)) I'm into sweat equity, and I might be able to save money by doing the demo myself, only working with a plumber for the hookup. I'll consider using my trusty sledge hammer.
Plumbing hookups are a lot like tinker toys, save yourself some $ on that one too 😊

I can't imagine the installation of that tub.
It is not that easy as it looks. You gotta be in pretty good shape to swing a hammer like that. It takes a lot of swings and the pieces are very sharp so you have to be very careful that you don’t cut yourself.
Why mine looks like extra thickness than yours, and very hard to hammer down!!!
Same here. From the 1940s.

U could have slide it out...u were not squizeed between 2 walls
Confront and destroy
Dude, cut to the Chase
Cut mine into 4 pieces with a 4 1/2 inch Lenox diamond edge blade. Less mess.
How many disc's did u use ?

@@Andrew-jo5sg ok so what tool?, grinder?
@@Chuckles.. I used a standard Makita 4 1/2 inch corded grinder.
The key was to be patient and keep a firm grip on the grinder. I also wore a heavy welders shirt, a welders cotton hood, a full face 3M mask with ventilators and heavy welders gloves and of course hearing protection.
The cast will produce a super fine dust so be sure to mask off the area.
I’ll post a link here to my CZcams with a video.

1:10 Resurfing costs a lot of money and only last 2 or maybe 3 years. Not worth it!
