  • Playthrough 1, Season 2 of Heroes 5.5.
It's finally time for season 2 of my Heroes 5.5 playthroughs. We'll start over playing through all the factions again but this time around we will be doing it on heroic difficulty instead of the regular hard difficulty. This reduces our starting resources and exp gain and gives the AI more starting resources. It's my first time playing on this difficulty so hopefully I'll be able to win this.
If you have any suggestions on strategies, maps, factions or games I should play leave a comment and I will definitely have a look. I hope you enjoyed the episode.
    Faction: Sylvan
    Template: 3P Standard-L
    Difficulty: Heroic
    AI difficulty: Savage+aggressive

With Duriel (it's probably pronounced Duw-Ree-Yell btw) there are some fun tactics that can be used against slow moving neutral armies (that don't have ranged units). You can place a few sprites on the battlefield as single units, and leave the rest of the army behind. Then - now that she has Water Affinity - summon a bunch of water elementals and have the sprites just kite the slower melee units. Simply by waiting and moving twice in a row, the enemy can't get in range to hit the sprite unit(s). The Water Elementals can use up all their castings of Ice Bolt, and then they function as great melee units, since they can win most fights on their own in the early game. The enemy AI used to prioritize attacking the summons, which made this strategy even easier to use in earlier versions of the game. But now you have to attack them yourself with summons, since they just target the unsummoned creatures. This can get you through some fights with no losses, though it's a bit risky when you don't know how many army units the enemy is going to place (too many different stacks makes kiting impossible). The strategy is probably more applicable for people who use reload tactics to try and optimize battles.
Regardless, Duriel is a great hero for creeping, so your current game looks like to be off to a good start. Heroic difficulty can be quite challenging and frustrating, so be prepared to have to reload from an earlier save or try again from scratch.

Thanks for the tips. I hope this start is good enough to get through the map on Heroic. We'll see if I can find a spot to use that tactics. Might be a bit risky to gamble on but I've done similar things in the past with spellcasting heroes ^^

how much more balanced would you say the mod makes the game

A lot more balanced. I think in the original game the biggest problem is that there are only a few strategies that are valid and op. This mod tries to balance the existing strategies and add more valid strategies.
It's a bit more difficult than the regular game but once you get over that, it's much more fun I would say.
