Quite agree, GiGi Petit. I'm coming to the view that Chinese traditional culture generally is probably the world's foremost. It has the richness of the western tradition but without the pretension and elitist tendency. And this piece of music I love partly because it's wonderful in itself, and partly because it's different from what we normally hear. It combines some of the usual Han elements that we're used to with strong Middle Eastern influences (see Liwei Guo's comment above.)

She is the master of romantic and sentimental erhu music player, leaving me breathless and in a state of astonishment everytime. Seeing her play is seeing perfection in action. Everyone loves you, Hongmei (Redplum).
二胡、琵琶、and 笛子 truly reflect the richness of Chinese culture. These girls also represent the pinnacle of Chinese music. I only wish that the more of the new wave of contemporary songs can be arranged to be played with these magnificent instruments.

Gene Emerson I have always loved the Chinese Erhu music. Yu and two others are considered as the three treasures of China. She teaches music at a an University in China. I love all her Erhu music. In the hands of a wonderful, professional Erhu player like Ms Yu, the Erhu can generate the wispering sound of two lovers, the screaming , quarrelling and angry sound of a couple, the crying sound of a baby, the mentoring sound of a mother, the happy, laughing sounds of children playing, the exciting sound of horse racing and the soft, flowing sound of a river etc....It brings back so much childhood memories and leads one into another world, real or imaginary.
