Great reminder that you mention playing as piano; it’s a common tendency to play harder as one feels that having to play 2 strings together need to apply more pressure ! Thanks so much or this video, no doubt the exercise looks simple but it’s so beautiful when played with a serene piano tone and good intonation….👏👍👍👍

Nice video! Very good point about releasing the upper string bowed note just before a perfect fifth. It gives you that nanosecond needed to assume the smashed finger position for the fifth. Which is always so awkward.

There is not way to lie with double stops! they just require total sincerity on the intonation. Thanks for walking us through this étude! Un grand merci pour ton aide.

Ilia, you are an amazing teacher! Finally I got to learn how to do double stops more comfortably. One question is how to play right hand so that I can always grip both strings equally. I still miss one of the strings once in a while. Am I doing something wrong?

Thank you so much! And glad that you feel more comfortable playing double stops! To answer your question: are double stops a thing that you play a lot? Or did you start with it recently? The thing is that to touch both of the strings requires time…it can happen that once a while you touch one of the strings, but just keep going and feel the motion! What I like to do in that case are open strings. What also can happen is that when you put the left hand on the fingerboard, we focus more on the left hand (to avoid false notes,…) but we don’t focus on the right hand, and that can be also a reason why this once in a while happens to you. But you just gave me a nice idea. I might make a video about that topic 👍🏻

Thank you very much for answering to my question. I have been trying double stops for about two years and it is one of the difficult ones for me (not consistent). If you could make a video on how to be careful about right hand and how about the tension, pressure or speed of the bow (is there any better way for it?) would be wonderful!
And any other tips....? Very grateful☺
