The answer is simple its indoors. Your comparing blue coats and vanguard tuning to a indoor high school drumline guys. Pitches are higher and the drums arent as resonate because if we did the same tuning scheme nothing would articulate in a gymnasium.
I don't know if it's because of "high pitched ness" but it just sounds like their drums are choked a little bit, could be snare tension and something to do with reso head. Also might be camera, I think that might be the best explanation.
I really hate the super high pitched-ness. I am more of a fan of the lower tuning thats still high (like a hybrid of vanguard and bluecoats this year). I think it sounds fuller that way. To me honestly Ayala's tuning sounds like they're playing on a piece of wood.
