- Ahoy Legends, this week I take the tinny for its maiden run into open waters to chase some summer pelagics. Thankfully the weather proves to be amazing and it isn't long before the fish start to bite! No content with my catch from day one, I'm back out the very next day, but this time I've brought the reinforcements!! Hope you enjoy the episode!

Great episode. Loved having the flotilla in the background. Only thing missing compared to my inshore reef is a few genius’s trolling in and out of the boats, especially over the float lines. I can send you some!

That Javelin Lazer, particularly in red head is a great lure for mackeral. I have caught spotties, schoolies and spanish on that lure, and also incredibly an 87 cm snapper
I use salty cap as well its amazing hey, great fish btw
Nice one mate perseverance and patience paid off, could have easy packed up and went for coffee and an egg and bacon roll. Bit easier to gaff/ handle fish with the sliding float?
Hey Sammy, have you tried using circle hooks when you're not using wire? I find that I get a lot less bite off's with circles.

You need to come to the states in the fall. Come to Oregon and I will take you fall Chinook/Cohoo fishing. We could even throw in some rock fishing and lingcod. If the ocean is calm enough.

I use a waist belt PFD. Company called Marlin do them, you can buy them from BCF 🍻

Why don’t you use spot lock on the minnkota rather than anchor?
I go for the stealth option mate. Anchor is silent and you don’t move around as much in the swell 👍
what hooks are you using on the whole pilchards
I use Mustad Penetrator hooks mate, 4/0-5/0 👍👍
love the vid you still need to sort out the sliding knot for the float fishing
Yeah I’ve never really used the sliding knots. The skewer seems to work pretty well so far 👌
Awesome vid mate, I've had some of the best sessions as well out at Palmy on my kayak! I hope your followers will adapt using the proper floats from BCF ($2 item) instead of littering the ocean with their Styrofoam cubes.

I’ve done all three ways mate, through the bar, tweed and also seaway. In the tinny I went the sea way because the swell was up. Bloody long drive down though 🥵

I haven't fished for spotties in years but we used to smash them inside the bar between Moreton and Straddy around this time of year, {when the blue butterflies were around}, and always used some wire, I actually used my old guitar strings....!😉

They freeze better than they release. At least humans can eat them rather than sharks.
If you release them in the water they go fine, once they come out there percentage definitely goes down, but got a lot better chance of surviving then going in the esky 👍

I lost a few fish in a row waiting for head shots. Now I’m just taking the first shot. A fish in the boat is better than one swimming away from ya!

I think it was most likely sharks or mackerel swallowing the rigs. My drag was nice and loose 👍

Gee whiz thats the most packed i've ever seen palmy reef! tally creek used to be crazy good fishing but in recent years it's been flogged to death but it still fishes okay for the jacks further upstream and flatties at the mouth. bream in there seam to be piss weak compared to the ones at currumbin. the tailor and jew fishery sucks as well no for some reason.
