The Falcons were on fire that year and finished as Premier League Champions of course. I remember Glasgow visited the week before or the week after and the Falcons won 74-16 on that occasion, the Falcons dropping a point in heat 15 when one or other of the reserves finished third. I remember Colin Hill subsequently regretting that he didn't put in his strongest pairing. Some teams came down and just didn't fancy it. Carl Stonehewer didn't even bother trying to compete that year but just pottered around the inside track all the way around!
Does anyone remember Oxford’s 40-0 over Peterborough? Probably 1976, the Panthers refused to ride on the waterlogged track. To be fair to Oxford, they stopped once they’d got the 40 points. Could have had a 65-0
@@niteskyrider9976 under the old format with thirteen heats, the meeting was split into two distinct parts. Thirteen heats for the team meeting, followed by an interval. The second half was individual racing with a knockout system for the rider of the night final and a couple of races for riders of the home club who had not yet made the team. The difference is less racing and a lost opportunity for riders trying to break into the team. Less racing meant less value to the supporters.
You realise how spoiled you are at some tracks when you watch an old Exeter meeting. I like the esoteric nature of British speedway tracks, but the racing is often shite.
Only went once, their last ever league meeting. The Rockets hammered them on their way to the 2005 title
Expensive night for coin Hill.

I was there for this
Even the mighty Cradley Heathens didn't manage a whitewash when they ruled English speedway in the 80's. Well done Exeter you ommered um👏
Great track.
only went here once summer '74
Happiness is a 40 - 38. I have never liked th 15 heat format. A whitewash in either format must be just horrible.
I’m confused what’s the difference between the heat format then and now?

As someone who got into speedway as a kid in the 90s, I never knew this. It sounds like a great format. Thanks for sharing.
Possibly the worst meeting in the history of speedway
Were you there? I was and I seem to remember it being amazing
