"Quest of the Demoknight" Final Level Playthrough [Saxxy Awards 2013 Best Comedy Finalist]

- "Quest of the Demoknight" was a classic 1987 title from from Mann Co. Games that captivated the world with it's unique gameplay, simple controls, and straightforward story of a one-eyed black scotsman who got mad at evil, and decided to give it the business.
However, unbeknownst to most, the game had many secrets hidden within it's code, including two secret levels, twelve undocumented items, a "true ending," and history's first "Big Head Mode." In this playthrough, I'll be showing you the true ending accessible only by collecting all the games items before the final level, and defeating each of the level's sub-bosses with special kills.

Okay, time for real notes.
After three months of work crammed into one month, "Project: Bacon Fish" is complete. Based on adventure games like "Castlevania" and the "Legend of Zelda," "Quest of the Demoknight" is a product of my love for old-school, adventure video games and enemies that explode a hundred times before dying.
And although both the 5 minute time restriction and actual time restrictions made it a bit fast-paced and not as fleshed out or grandiose as I planned, it's still better than "One Step Ahead," so get off my case, mom.

Also, the spelling mistakes are on purpose. Old games from Japan usually had translation errors, so that's what that's all about.

Quest of the Demoknight is a great game for the kids. It introduces them to situations dealt with in real life, and takes them on in a realistic manner. 5 out of 5 shrimpdimples.
It also revolutionized 4D gameplay as we know it. It led to many other 4D games like Silent Quack: Dispenser and the Beast, its sequel, Silent Quack 2: Sandviches in Time, and the famous game by Hyper Cow, Modern Waluigi 3. As a reviewer of the older games, Quest of the Demoknight is an amazing classic, I give it a 10/Sandvich. You can't deny how it was considered perfect at its time.
I thought the Silent Quack saga belonged to Wanka Enterprise, or is that Pyro's Burning Passion: Episode Two: Part Two?

And did you know about Mann Co Games' newest game, BattleBONK: Ravage and Scourge? I tried it. The World 5 Boss of QOTK, King Piss-aro, actually appears as a boss in a secret level, and Demoknight and Shadoknight are fighting in the background. Most epic reference ever.

The ending is probably a nod to weird character cameos in casual sports games or something. Obviously, Mann Co. Games released some kind of diner simulator and Demoknight appears as a playable character.
I'd say it's more likely a nod to an old trope, that being: What does a hero do once they've saved the world? It's not like it'll need saving again for a while. So they have to put their hero-ing to use elsewhere!

According to a secret book in Merasmus' library (found only after unlocking the secret ending), the shouting German is actually a corrupted version of the "gentlemanly medic" found in Teufort town. Also, if you charge immediately after he appears, you can kill him, stunning twinklefoot and taking out his shield, causing bubba to flee

I can't make it past Merasmus. I'm using an Engineer with a level three Chin equipped. I tried using St. Heavy, but I ran out of mana-sandviches. Any tips?
Use a level 10 gunslinger to deploy multiple mini sentries that could distract him an weaken him

Oh yeah, if you can upgrade your Rancho Relaxo to 'Hyper-Rest', you can deal massive amounts of damage to Merasmus by getting drunk and vomiting all over him. Unfortunately you need to be Level 47 to unlock it, which you only usually achieve during the bonus levels.
I recommend going back to Hightower and farming high level Market Soldiers and Phlogistinator Pyros. They give some of the highest exp in the game.

+Gray Mann if you do the side mission where you have to fight the headless horseless horseman there is a small chance you could get his axe witch does bonus damage to wizards plus if you can collect the the headless horseless horseman. Jr's head you can upgrade the axe making it one of the best weapons in the game but in order to upgrade the axe your smithing has to be level 50

Huh?!?!?!? THAT'S the real ending? How did that Lucky son of a bitch soldier make it past the Sniperilla's and the Spyders in level 29? I've been stuck on that son of a bitch level for who knows hwo long, no matter HOW far I get I ALWAYS get killed by a Sniperilla the momwent I make it to the door, I have the Sandvich of Healing with the katana-Zatoshi, and my game keeps getting a Blue screen the Moment I grab the Bonk! of invincibility, so I can't even FINISH the level Can somebody help me? I REALLY want to get passed this level.

Almost 2 years and half of shit written on the commentary section. If you grab every single piece and put on a blender, you can actually make a grind-type RPG. With classes, equipments, bosses, levels, everything.

I loved how you manipulated the Pyros' eyes to make them more expressive, this entry was brilliant and by far deserves to win a Saxxy.
Guys i found a secret: after defeating the final boss go to the teufort cave and find the "mysterious beacon". After that go to the top of the lighthouse on the spycrab coastline and use it . It will summon an UFO that will allow you to access the game's secret sidequest
The side quest is bad. It's for a ring that only does 5% all stats which is only good for a duo warrior-magician class
After finishing the sidequest the ufo will crashland in the hoovy plains, if you search it there you will find the ultimate weapon for a magician.
+tkpantol The weapon is the Valve Grade Zeno Staff that does an average of 761 damage per hit,which is quite good compared to my 249 damage per hit beggars staff.Also the Zeno staff fires 4 projectiles that can only be dodged by the bonk scout boss.So overall... The Valve Grade Zeno Staff is the best weapon for a Mage class

I really loved the combination of Dota 2 and TF2 assets as they actually blended in together nicely without standing out of place. I enjoy both games very much so seeing this done well is very good. Very good humor in this with the fantasy video game concept and again, good combination between two different games' assets. It's pretty direct in some parts which is played out well.
Hey, is anyone else here excited for the Quest of the Demoknight 27th Anniversary Collection coming out next year? 27 seems like a random number, but when asked, Mann Co. Games president Saxton Hale said that it was because next year will be Demoknight's 27th anniversary, and currently, there just so happens to be 27 games in the Demoknight franchise, including spinoffs.
Quest of the Demoknight 27th Anniversary Collection will contain every Demoknight game from previous gens. That's the first ten "Quest of the Demoknight" games, the first four "Demoknight Kart" games, the first five "Demoknight Party" games, "Demoknight RPG", "Paper Demoknight", and both of the "Demoknight & Soldicus" games.
In addition, Mr. Hale has said that the Collection will also include a few other classic games from the Game Crate and Super Game Crate, including "Scout's Journey", "Battle Medic" 1 and 2, and "Attack of the W+M1 Pyros", among others. Plus, Mr. Hale also said that there will be a brand new game that can only be played as part of the Anniversary Collection. I heard that if you take the Burning Hat from level 12 and save it for this level you can get the secret ending. To get the other ending you must show it to The Legion of Pyronus, they will all look at it in awe, then you must throw it into the middle of the Pyros and they will let you into the castle without a fight and skip over the Twinklefoot and Bubba fight. Go defeat Merasmus as usual, and the secret Boss will spawn in after a cutscene in which the Pyronus Legion will become your ally because of the hat in which they shared. The final boss will be a gigantic robot that Twinklefoot and Bubba are piloting. To defeat them you must get under the burning hat and use the Amulet to summon St. Heffi. After defeating the apprentices the secret seventh ending will occur.
Wait,you can actually keep the Burning Hat from level 12? When I tried that,it turned into a Pile of Ash after exiting the level.Okay,it was necessary for the Teaming Jewel in Level 13 which I could use for the Holy Crown,but I am intruiged in what my childhood game had to offer that I missed.
There's a LOT that everyone missed, and yes you CAN keep the hat, not easy though. When you see that the hat burns up fairly slowly and that there is a LOT of wind in the level. Take the hat to the wind and it will go out for a minute or two then burn again, worry not for the burning has reset. Rinse and repeat for the whole level until you get to the gate keeper, who will ask for a special hat to get past her. You must go back to the room before her and there will be an open door. Go into that door and you will find a hat that shines, you must take the shiny hat and give it to the gate keeper and you have won the level without losing the burning hat. Don't worry about the hat burning out in later levels, nothing breaks/burns in you inventory.
At least he got the only Unusual Merasmus hat in existence, that should give him enough money for a while.

I need some help on this. I'm up to the Flaming Heavy Kracken boss fight and I can't get past it. I used a LV. 5 Mini Sentry of Doom and a fully upgraded LV. 43 Sandvich Launcher and doesn't get him lower than 67381 hp. I always die from his "Rain of Meat Products and Chocolate" attack. I chose the Muslim Pacifist Engineer and I am a level 103. Could someone suggest what spells and buffs I should equip?
Ohhh, he has a resistance to mini-bullets. Try using a Sentry of Metal Combustion (I recommend at least level 3), as he has a weakness to fire (weird, I know)
There's a trick to the Kracken people don't often use.
In the town before, try finding the Altar of the Nameless Aussie. If you've still got a Merc Badge left, make an offering. This will, when the battle begins, set the Kracken down by roughly half of his lifebar and nerf the aforementioned rain. You'll know you did it right when you hear the Nameless Aussie talking and taking a shot as the Kracken shows up.
You have a small chance of finding a Legendary Tide Turner when you die. Simply keep trying, and eventually you'll be able to keep trying efectivelyer. An alternative route is to purchase Batman's pet Horse, and ride into battle. Not on the horse. On a nearby newt.

I've checked, they're not undefeatable, but the only alternative to having Bonk! at Lv. 15 or higher is to have the Tome of Invokem Monoculus. And odds are, given how rare that drop is, you won't have it.

This playthrough is a bit misleading. You don't have to die on your first encounter with Merasmus, but his attack pattern WILL be different. He just won't cast the summon spell until about half his health is down, but for most of the first half he just spams the lightning attack. You'll want to have alot of points in Acrobatics, Speed, and Calligraphy to get around it.
Bombinomicon doesn't have to die either. The fight will be longer, but that's good, because Quest of the demoknight is much shorter game, comparing to older games from this series. I was quite disappointed with this part, I prefered to fight in a team. Cooperation mode in this game isn't really good.

only massive casuals pick the hoovy. The best way to go is the Master of Disguise. He's hard to get into, but he is by far the most rewarding. and DAMN just look at that jawline

At level 60 he gains the powerful Meteor Wrench skill.

I hate how you, to get 100% completion, have to finish ALL the sidequests in the Teufort City hub which takes forever because the superbosses have insanely low drop rates and rarely spawn. (It took hours until i finally got the Giant Enemy Spycrabs Cardboard Shell)
+AgentMKJ511 Agh, try getting the Bill's Hat of no return! It has a -0% chance of dropping when you kill the Hyper Hoovy super boss! And you need that hat to complete the "Left my hat" quest!
+Bed head zed The Dapper Doctor Ever tried completing "Saharan spy", the families fez can only be obtained by getting the doctor who secret easter egg, which has a 25% chance to happen upon defeating the demobird while taking no damadge from his caber attacks!

+SoloMael if you use a simple ISlander infused with a 3 heavy pootises the drop rate is almost 100% but it would take a long time because it is not a powerful weapon

Holy Crap. After all these years... I never knew of this secret ending?! And it would even give me an achievement that unlocked the DemoKnight character in Diner Fortress. Oh well, good work getting the ending. God knows how hard it must have been to defeat Merasmus using the Bombonomicon (Took me a dozen tries to do it).
On another note: I knew I should've purchased the Holy Sandvich back in Level 10 instead of saving for the upgraded Tauren's Targe in Level 18. I had a feeling it would've helped in the fight against the Undying Minion (That guy is a bitch to kill).
On a more serious note: You did an amazing job. Great animation, action, and comedy (that had me laughing like a madman). This is definitely a high contender for the Saxxy Awards. And I will be genuinely surprised if you do not get any awards for this.

Hey, I need some help. I am on lvl 63, and I can't beat the part with the engi-orcs. They keep making cannons and I can't kill them when I have to destroy their cannons. The Bonk of Invincibility isn't working very well for me at this stage. I even bought St. Heffi to help out! But I am still stuck. Do you got any suggestions?
Get the power stunker upgrade and make sure to get bone gits then craft the Bonk of Invincibility lv2. Make sure use special move when the cannon is directly fired at you, after the super move, use BoI lv2 (Bonk of invincibility) to splash dmg jump. In mid air cast the spell of Mr Wolf Quest. Then dash mode it all. Ur welcome.

Also, after you beat them, DO NOT pick up the level 69 sandvich, it will make 47 Pootis heavys appear, they have level 9074 War axes

Awesome work, i found this to be extremely entertaining. The whole vid really had a videogame-y feel to it, especially with those boss introductions, that reminded me of Borderlands. All the fights were well animated and funny. When Undying's Tombstone and Undying himself appeared, i was delighted (love playing as Undying in dota2), and when you actually used the "shitty wizard" voiceline, i was laughing pretty hard. Great vid, best of luck with the Saxxy contest.
how you guys even get St. heffi magic truck? every time i summon him, St heffi only attack with punch and the brass beast. did i miss something? i am lvl 103 ice spy.
You have to do a request for a ring to trigger it. There's a dude in st. Gravel pit, just do what he says

You need to upgrade it to at least level 30.
To get an op version of it go to the land of the gods and place 40 holy crystals at the highest point you then gotta fight 12 hordes of skeletons and then st heffi will gain the rest of his skills + a new one called wrath of pootis (Need bird head for it to ever work) That summons a level 60 pootis bird that does 20000 damage+bleeding

Not even the right ending lol. To achieve the true ending you have to take no damage through the final level. He missed the quick time event for the medic bomb and took 274 dmg. Get your facts right before you go spreading click bait.

For those having trouble with your defence stats, the Buckler of Strange Strength to Size Ratio is the one used. It has a 25% chance to fail to block attacks, but it blocks 100% of damage. Not good against the Lucksman ____hunter Clans' members, since ranged attacks have a 50% fail rate instead of 25%, but great if you have good luck and also great against bosses. You can get it at the Higher Tower dungeon loot table, for a 10% chance. Bringing some Detonating Orbs of Flying (Don't forget the Detonator of Detonating Orbs of Flying) or the Launcher of Detonating Orbs of Flying (inbuilt detonator, don't need a detonator) help you with it, since the dungeon is hell without it.
Fun Fact: If you take an immediate right after defeating Omega Form Merasmus on level 87, you can find a secret level where you fight deformed Twinkletoes clones until you reach the mountain's summit. There you can find Bubba trying to clone his fallen friend. You can either use necromancy to bring him back for real, triggering a repeat of the original boss battle, or you can fight Failing Dark Alchemist Bubba. Watch out for his spin move and the Hail of Mishappen Corpses, those can really do some hefty damage. The worst part is that the only summon you can use is Sir Kevin Macleod, and you all know he's only good for copywrite free minstrel songs.

I got the "faster recharge" skill, and then used the x10 effect with the "thorn encrusted rose armour", whenever the mini sentrorcs hit me they took five times that amount of damadge in return, had to eat sandwiches a lot though.

I had to use a flygineer at one point just cause of Those pyros.
I used a gunslinger and punched them to death.
Bubba and Twinklefoot were the biggest pain in the ass, really.
I just went With St. Heffi there and just said fuck it.
Merasmus was an easy pussy cause of my Flygineer.
I used the Nest ability behind a wall so if I lost health I could recover it from that Nest.
I did it, tho.
