There's something inexplicably great about Brian's understated fame. So many people know his music (largely through sampling) but they don't know the guy or anything about him. He's like the ultimate sleeper composer.

Brian`s story is an insiders history of the British music industry from 1956 onwards . Everything from Wee Willie Harris to the London Symphony Orchestra , not to mention Cliff and The Shadows who probably kick started the whole beat group revolution .

Excellent video! Thanks for posting this,I have met Brian and the rest of the Shadows several times, and they have always been great characters with their fans.
Brian took my Son onto the stage, when he was only about 9 years old,and a budding Brian Bennett, after the sound check at Newcastle City Hall, during the "Twenty Golden Greats" tour, and let him sit at a six-thousand-pounds kit, then said to my Son..."Go on,Darren, have a bit bash about..!"
My Son was so overwhelmed with excitement, and feared he might knock a cymbal stand over or summik daft like that with nerves,he just did a bit of a mammy-daddy,and a crash or two.All the Roadies and lighting and sound Techs were in the front two rows coffee'ing -on,and gave my young kid a big applause, while I was trying to get photo's with one hand,
cos the other arm was in a sling, plastered up to the elbow after a bad accident deep underground in a coal mine.
Brian showed heaps of affection and patience towards my Son and Myself, and I will never forget that day....in 1977....
Darren is now a Record Producer in London, and still plays drums on sessions as well as recording and producing.
We owe a lot to Brian for his advice and affectionate nature,as he is seen here to be displaying with natural ease...he has never changed!!
    It's a free world....[or so I learn't when I was a kid!],and everybody has their own opinions,but I can't understand why some people have a thumbs down?
Why not just leave the site if it's not your cup of tea....you obviously don't know the man or his much - varied musical talents!!

Rick thank you you do some marvelous interviews. You let the subject recollect their experiences. I have watched Bruce Welch Brian Bennett [ my hero I have aspired to be a drummer ever since The Shadows brought out Apache in 1960. here I am now 75 going to 76 living on a farm retired but keeping a herd of alpacas but with a big shed that houses all my drums and musical instruments. Play Shadows music on CZcams channeled to my Shed TV and speakers and play drums to them. What satisfaction my nearest neighbour is 4 KG somehow my wife reckons the village at 7Kg can hear me and the music. Thank you again look forward to the next chapter of Shadows interview. Cheers 2023 for posterity.

I find it weired that the legendary Brian Bennett, the drummer of the greatest instrumental band of the world, the Shadows, is constantly down playing his role in as a member of the great band, and talking most of the time of the interview about his solo career as a composer of serials and side projects that most people outside England have never heard of.

It's amazing that Brian wanted to do session work at a time when Britain had Bobby Graham, who was the U.K.'s answer to Hal Blaine (the Wrecking Crew).
It's surprising that he didn't mention Bobby Graham actually, although he did mention Big Jim Sullivan, Marty Wilde's lead guitarist.
Sullivan was a session musician with Bobby Graham and a very young pre Zep Jimmy Paige.
