Your series is inspiring me to do this... Always wanted to do it and finally started. First purchase by me to do this was a 2005 Maxima... with a 3.5L... you at 5:20 "I don't mind Altimas the 2.5L motor was decent but I never buy Maximas or anything with the 3.5L motor..." Well I experienced why... Backstory: Bought it for $600 and spent $200 so far on it for fluids and tow home from where it sat. It was advertised for $900 but doesn't start. Thought it may just be something simple like a sensor or tuneup. However when I got to the guys place to come and check it out, he had accidentally locked keys in the car with no way to get them (only set). So I couldn't try and start it. Told him that I would take my chances and offered him $500 as is but settled at $600. Called my tow truck buddy and get it towed to my place to check it out. Got doors open and tried starting it - didn't sound right. No chug chug noise like normal engines make when they are being spun to start. Compression tested it - basically no compression in any of the cylinders. Thinking it is probably head gasket. Got the top half of the motor apart but it is a pain to get all the way to the heads. Not gonna waste my time.
So... Part out a few pieces I can sell to get some money back then to Pick n Pull with the rest of the shell. Any suggestions what small pieces I can grab from it to sell that I can try and get some money back out of it? Kinda discouraging that my first try was a dud, but I will try again. Hope for better luck next time. Lol. Maybe I will do a youtube series on my journey...

I spend a fair amount of time in all the wholesale auctions. Its definitely a rush you end up with cars you sometimes didn't plan. And always say you will only get things that you looked at but thats not the case. It is still a very interesting business that I enjoyed while I worked at a small dealer. Everything you say is accurate looking for big dealer names etc. But its always a gamble. Nothing like walking through the lot finding your buy a little adrenaline builds up when you see it or when is a little better than expected. And that feeling, when you are hoping nothing is wrong but have a gut feeling. Thanks for the videos bringing back memories.

Transmission was bone dry when we bought it so I added new fluid and additives, turns out we find it has a bad alignment which end up being all front inner and outer links along with one outer link being previously JB WELDED...just some transmission slips and alignment issues.

Like the fact you are taking some real costs in consideration. And these days happens it is part of the journey and makes this serie as real as it can be. Might not be fun for you wallet but it makes the serie better. Good luck!

Used transmissions are usually cheaper to replace than engines from my experience. That may be a plus.

Turned off Netflix to watch this. I like to stick to Japanese vehicles for now but I am enjoying the channel and learning a lot. Appreciate net profit as well. I bought an 05 Mazda 3 Sport wagon 190kms that was supposedly no accidents and surprise it turned out it was rebuilt. Lesson learned for me to always run a vin check. I still made some money but much less.

i gotta mention it since i seen it, early in the video, theres a white chevy coloroado (2005- 2013) these trucks are amazing and im sure you could flip it easily, nice compact truck, engines live long, can tow etc... two things if you plan on flipping drive to see if it shifts nicely, and check the rear frame rail in FRONT of the leaf springs for rot holes. either than that, super lovely trucks, i bought one for 3 k.... definitely worth putting some work into

The way you switched from reverse to drive in the caddy is probably what caused the reverse to fail on the Chevy. Full stop before switching from reverse to drive will prolong the transmission. Especially on vehicles with weak transmissions.

That knock you heard on the Ram truck is probably cam lifter failure in the near future. You’re right to stay away from those 5.7 Hemi engines at the auction.

I enjoy your videos. Ironically, I dropped out of college and worked for 3 miserable days for a high volume, high pressure, high turnover in employees, Chrysler dealer in Maryland. I quit when I was told to lie to potential customers. I returned to college. I’m writing to ask why you avoid Eco-boost cars. I love my 2016 Mustang which has one. At 45k miles, it’s been a true gem of a car.

Lemons? that's not at all what a lemon is..Buying an old crap car ,and getting exactly what you paid for is what it is.. I imagine there is a lot of wholesalers who talk to each other and say things like " don't worry Craig will buy it.Other guy...."he's not that stupid" ,back to other wholesaler.."have you seen his videos"..
All good Craig..I just tune in to see if you are serious... you do absolutely no investigation on these cars ,and when they come back with issues ,you are perplexed..

This is the side of the used car business that customers usually don't get to see so its pretty awesome..you know the old saying "if it was easy everyone would be doing it". sometimes you get lucky, both the srx and the equinox might just need a trans filter and fluid flush.the F150 needs a new throttle body as I believe the tps isn't replaceable.

You should buy cars you know odds are in your favor. Knowing vehicles like the equinox are likely lemons, you set yourself up for failure. Also bring scan tool to scan computer for problems.

if you’re a private seller in Vancouver, BC Canada you have to pay 12% sales tax on both new and used cars you buy. Then when you’re ready to sell the buyer also has to pay 12% sales tax to the Provincial government when he or she registers the purchase. A Dealer doesn’t have this handicap.
Also there’s often a hidden major problem with the car you want to flip. It could be engine, transmission or tires. Tires you can spot and factor replacement in the purchase price. Potential buyers I find want to buy a Honda, Toyota or Japanese brand and rust providing it’s accident free is not a problem on the West Coast. It’s the sales tax that’s the problem.

Enjoying this series you win some you lose some,I’d put a transmission fluid addictive in both the equinox and the caddy and run them back thru the auction, the f150 can be fixed if that’s the only issue it has that mustang is going to need body and mechanical work and it’s 🥶
