For sale: 1931 Ford Model A coupe.
Runs, drives, and stops well. Has recently serviced 4 cylinder, 201 cubic inch flathead engine with newly rebuilt distributor and carburetor. 3 speed sliding gear (unsynchronized) transmission. Upgrades include seat belts, turn signals, passenger side taillight, halogen headlights, 6 volt positive ground alternator, temperature gauge, sidemount spare tire, trunk rack, full width rear bumper, and more.
Known issues include some unfinished items like missing floorboard screws, missing choke rod holder, needs the electric wiper and dome light wired up, the starter doesn't always engage the flywheel ring gear, possible manifold gasket leak, tires and tubes are pretty old and should be replaced, crack in passenger side window, windshield has some odd distortion, rumble seat lid does not latch, paint isn't very good, right front fender has a poorly done repair, extra holes in firewall.
Has clean California title, and tags are paid up through September 2022. See previous videos (links below) for details on the resurrection of this car from orphaned to fairly good driver condition.
There are 2 more videos showing work on Athena in post production now. Those are coming soon. I published this video now (ahead of those) because the next project Model A is already in progress and my dad wants to move it inside now. We need the room, so we are selling Athena before the last two fix-up videos publish. I am sorry for the confusion!

O-H-I-O Porter greetings 🇺🇸 Howdy there. I made some grilled cheese/pepperoni sandwiches for my boys for lunch & settle down for a few to watch a couple of your videos. Athena is a beautiful car! I’ve not seen any video of this car before & the brief story that I heard of it really intrigued me…abandoned. I shall take time to view them so that I can understand more of its history & what you had to do to it. I know it’s gone now. Joel, my oldest son & I so enjoy your videos. We appreciate all that you do with those fine, old cars! I’m more of a truck person, but I really do enjoy the cars. We both would consider owner a model A or actually any older car/truck of yesteryear. That’s pretty good for a 19 year old! We watch many of your videos together & so enjoy them! Good bonding time! Blessings my friend. I still pray for ya! 🥰😎✌️

I've watched most of your journey with this car. Great job bringing her back to her glory. You mentioned Athena is an early '31; the radiator frame looks like a '30 with the blue Ford logo. All of the 1931's I've seen have the radiator frame painted at the top/bottom with the car's color, and the Ford logo natural (nickel or chrome?).

Jim, Some of the prices seem unreal because the amounts of money invested in the restorations are unreal. This is a very nice car offered at a very reasonable price. However if the car where to get a professional grade repaint with all of the associated fiddley body fitting and detailing, proper brush applied pin striping, a professional grade historically correct new interior, plating work as required, a fresh engine and other mechanical refurbishments, a Mitchell overdrive…. The car could move from a very nice A to a stunning example. The asking price of the stunning example could easily be double or more and the owner could still be bleeding money from his eyeballs and realize his labor was worth 10 cents per hour. This is one beauty of the A; there is something available for every budget.

Howdy Paul, I'm asking you the following questions because I've watched your videos for some time. I like the way you communicate with your audience. My wife and I would like a Model A. Her Grandfather had a Model A much like your coupe with the cloth covered top. She was in line for receiving this Ford years ago. That did not happen. I had a couple of Model A's. A 1930 Fordor sedan. and a 1931 delivery. None of my Fords ever saw final Restoration. When I was in Junior College I got interested in Cadillac's. And that had been the disease that I have had the rest of my life. I am now 84 years young. The only antique car I have left is a 1948 Cadillac Sedanette. I've owned and worked on this car for 43 years. It is not finished and does not currently run. It is an absolute rust free car and has been garaged for it's total life. We would like to trade this car for a Model A Coupe. I know you don't deal in Cadillacs. But do in Model A. So my last Question Is. How might you help My Wife and Myself make contacts with the right People.
    Thanks Claudia and Don

Fully sorted? I mean FULLY sorted? About twice that. But you will almost never see a fully (truly fully) sorted Model A for sale. Those sales are usually handled in private. The kind of people who scour for sale ads are not the kind of people who will pay for a really, really, truly FULLY sorted Model A. The kind of people who try to lowball you are not qualified to buy a truly fully sorted Model A.

Let’s title this a public service announcement. I recommend, and would recommend to any parent of a daughter or son showing interest in mechanics or a career in engineering, the Model A as a first car. Yes, I recognize and respect the concern of safety. The two wheeled vehicle - motorcycle, scooter, moped - has set what most recognize as a minimum acceptable level of safety for today’s highway travel. I believe the Model A surpasses this minimum safety threshold by a good margin. Paul’s clever slogan “I am the warranty “ could be reworded “I am the safety “ . My safety score while riding a motorcycle rests squarely on my shoulders. Likewise while driving my “A”. The reasons for suggesting the “A” would warrant an essay to fully explain. Many of the reasons are almost cliche, so I’ll stick to a few under appreciated points.
    1. The well sorted A, as Paul would say , with the prescribed routine maintenance is a reliable ride. Perhaps more importantly it is designed to be repaired. The car is at home with a hammer, pliers, screwdrivers, a Monkey wrench, bent nails, and baling wire. A Monkey wrench is a real thing and was a ubiquitous tool in the day. This car was successful at a time when a good portion of the population was cash short.
    2. The “A” is an engineering tour de force. Crawl underneath, look around: the lineage from horse carriage to horseless carriage is obvious. Who would have thought engineers were considering the influence of unsprung weight when refining their design? It certainly appears so. A few years later, Citroen took this to an extreme with the 2CV. A lightweight auto owning the claim “Able to drive at speed across a plowed field with a basket of eggs in the back seat.” I drove a 2CV as a main, err only, driver for many years; the claim may be true. Bottom line, the “A” offers much food for thought for a developing engineering mindset.
    3. With the exception of the Freeway, the “A” is a roadworthy auto. The Mitchell gearbox is golden!
    4. Parts are universally available and inexpensive. I can honestly say there is better parts coverage for “A” than for my two modern vehicles.
    5. If the brakes don’t work well - FIX THEM
And lastly for the budding engineer - not following the flock, the path less traveled, and learning to analyze the how and why of a design can be good for the career. Practice this skill on your first car.
Congratulations to the new owner! Enjoy

It "sweats" fuel?? If so, that means it has become porous. If it's porous, that means it has rusted through. Take it to a radiator shop for an opinion.
