My top song is Milk Of The Siren but I want to give some appreciation to the hit Powder that people misses Not sure who Melanie was pointing directly in Powder but regardless Powder was sung in the perspective of a person under the affect of the drugs that’s why her voice is so distorted in this song . The song itself being sad for a moment and then the beat drop make you ascend and raise your hand , just like when you’re on the affect of the drug , everything around you make you go high but suddenly the pain without the drug struck you and the song goes on with a slow sad pace with the sound of drug sniffing trying to get the high feeling again . At first I was so confused what’s going on with the voice distortion but the more I deep dive into the story and the lyrics behind the music , it become such a bop that it’s sad to hear . The songs lyrics and the perspective it’s being told and how the beat goes just beautiful once you understand it .
In powder when she says "blood falling out from ur nose", it reminds me of the teacher from the k12 film when she would sniff the cocaine even tho I know they don't have any resemblance probably it just reminds me of the k12 teacher

Powder: powder is about addiction and I don’t think shes specifically talking about anyone but she’s talking about everyone and anyone who has an addiction or had addiction. For Powder, it’s really amazing how Melanie made it. Not only is the music great, but the verses and chorus are expressive, and even between each part of the song, there’s vocals saying ‘pity’ on repeat, like she’s expressing her pity on the guy for his situation, or she’s pitying their failing relationship.
Someone a few months ago made an animation creating a story for Milk Of the Siren which portraits a siren who saw all her kind get killed, men colonizing their land, taking everything from them (think of it as the colonization of Columbus) and she was the only one of her kind to survive. It shows how she morphed herself to pass as a human and she ends up getting revenge and taking back the power she once had. I love this animation because it’s very empowering to see how the story develops and how graphic it is because women do go through some tough shit and most of the times we just have to thug it out or we’re forced to shut up and it shows how powerful the feminine hand can be and how the siren strikes when she hypnotized the antagonist, it rly gives me chills every time I watch it. I've been there and it's hard to see someone you love struggle so much. You just got to be there and encourage someone to get help. It's not easy to do it by yourself but at the same time only you can make the change.
The beautiful thing about this entire album is that shes clearly talking about herself and the relationship between who she is now and who she was before, but every song also applies to her relationship to anyone else in her life. Showing that when you become a new person and rise from your ashes, you still and always will have the old self connected to you in some ways. Its still a relationship with a separate "person".
