Wow, seeing you dance next to the others just proves again what an extraordinary dancer you are... Not that they're all bad, but you just stand out. Beautiful to watch.
Odette with white swan feathers one night....and a young lady with a white down vest the next! I love that you are showing that one night you are a star and the next day it's back to the barre to perfect those unperfectable steps. It's not always a tutu and a tiara but it IS always sweat and a struggle.
You summed up how I felt perfectly!
This really inspired me to push myself hard again - I was just about to burn out from not seeing any results (I've started a new diet, as well as actually working out at home)! I really really look up to you Joy, and I hope to meet you in person one day. It'd be a pleasure.

I can't even put into words how AWESOME it was to see your work/dancing in the class setting. One question kept popping into my head... why do all the other girls wear ballet slippers?!?!? (minus maybe a few others, but it was hard to tell) I saw the video length, got myself a snack and something to drink and I got lost in the beauty that is you Joy!
+The Gutless Warrior So hardcore for her to be wearing pointe shoes all the way through class. I don't put mine on until centre.
I was curious because several times when she's posted run throughs or dress rehersals; for example when she was dancing one of the 4 faeries in Sleeping Beauty or dancing one of the swan groupings, the other girls will not dance full out or even 1/2 way they mark time. I suppose for me it seems weird to not want to make sure you're in sync with the other dancers... I suppose its because I'm not a dancer so I don't fully understand things... but I can understand waiting until centre to go en pointe. Thank you for that clarification :)
These studios remind me of the old performing arts building at my highschool. In order to get from front to back of the building you have to go through either the band room (downstairs) or the main dance studio (upstairs).
Is it customary to take barre in pointe shoes in the Russian companies? Here in the states, most dancers do barre in soft shoes and switch to pointe shoes for center. Except at NYCB, I've heard, because Balanchine wanted the ladies to wear their pointe shoes as much as possible. Or do you make a special example because you're a principal dancer? LOVE your perfect 5th and nice flat turnout.

Joy, are you the only company member that takes a full class in pointe shoes? I think I remember you mentioning in another video that it makes sense for you, since you perform en pointe. I'm curious, do the other dancers or teachers say anything about that?

LOVE the clean and clear academia you have in your muscles, defining the positions in the glossary. Your tendus are perfectly in harmony with it's objective and the 5 famous positions are textbook perfect with an astonishing and beautiful 4th. The only thing I recommend is, the frappes need to have more accent and exactitude, more brio challenge yourself with more speedy frappes, they will make the battus in the White adagio electric petite beats. Your Womackulous jetes are bread and butter delicious and the centered en dedans with arms in 5th perfect. I really liked this post. BTW, I like you taking class in point shoes, soft slippers are for sissies.
Hi Joy, love your vids! one question, why do you have pointe shoes on for barre? I thought soft shoes would be worn...especially in Russian Ballet. Are you able to share some light on this? Thanks!!

I’m studying music at the moment to help with my dance, and it’s so interesting to see how you savour every last moment of the music before the beat comes in. That shows huge professionalism and artistry, and looks absolutely stunning. It’s so interesting to see how each person in the class times it differently (not that they’re off beat, just a slightly differently way of hearing the music and putting the choreography to it).
Joy, do you always take class in your pointes? I see that some of the other girl's have ballet slippers. Is it just preference?
+feartayrawrr She said in some video that she likes to take class in her pointe shoes every other day. :)
+feartayrawrr Also. Russian usually take class in their slippers because they are taught to do so. She also talked about that in another video (sorry don't remember which one :/). It is like a cultural thing for them to wear soft shoes in class ('cause they are taught to do like that in school etc.).
+Epifany Erceg I've often wondered too if its a cost consideration also. I mean Joy dances on Gaynors which last longer but I dont think russian companies have a 1/2 million $ pointe shoe budget like the NYC Ballet does.

Not to be mean but one girl in particular must dread dancing in the group with you during center work. I won't point out who in particular I'm referring too but she really must hate dancing in same group as you. Also Joy, I support you on Patreon but you should maybe put up some posts on your page to attract more support from people who may not have watched your videos here and only saw you on there! Your page is really empty and I'd like to see some content on there from you! Just a suggestion! God bless and keep positive!

This was fascinating to watch - it looked like several dancers left class early - are they allowed to do that? Your commitment is inspiring, Joy! Also, I don't know how you do all that rehearsing in such a tiny space, but you make it look as if you are dancing on a huge stage - beautiful.

+Forever Ballerina You can't make your knees hyperextended, it's bone structure.
