Your tour guide doesn't speak Spanish and doing a tour in Little Havana? It's like having a Mexican give you a tour of Iceland.....
I don't know if the video doesn't show that, but she translated all the Spanish for me quite well. My guide was a native Spanish speaker, but Cuban Spanish can be a bit different. Maybe more like a French tour guide in Québéc?
Noel, why would it matter if the guide speaks Spanish or not? What matters is that she is an amazing guide, she is kind to people, has vast knowledge of everything Cuban as it relates to culinary plus none of the people she is giving the tour to speak Spanish, so even if she would speak Spanish, for the purpose of giving the tour, it would be useless.
I know this guide is smart, kind and an excellent tour guide. I've seen her work. I've seen other guides in the area traveling with their international groups who don't speak Spanish and doing a good job with basic information about the area. I also think there's a slight disconnect if the guide can't communicate in the language of the area they are guiding in be it Little Havana or anywhere else. Even though the group doesn’t speak Spanish, the guide’s ability to converse in the local language can deepen the authenticity of the experience for the customer. But hey ultimately, as long as the customer is enjoying the tour and getting their money's worth it's a win win for everyone.
