Unfortunately the dimensions of the laptop compartment for the Thule Subterra 34L Backpack are also 38.5 x 3.1 x 26.5 cm. So the issue with the size of your laptop will be the same as for the Thule Subterra 30L backpack.
Unfortunately it won't fit in the laptop compartment either.

You can use it for bringing clothes and one pair of shoes also. It might be a bit bulky but we would say that its possible :)
