I'd personally go for the Basic, it's louder, felt less fiddly too. I'm thinking of buying one. This six string kit is pretty good, cool to have two trompettes and loads of adjustment features you find on top end expensive gurdies. I'd change the lower melody string for a corelli Violin G if it was mine, this had a guitar string fitted.

And also, I'm aware that the newer nerdy gurdy still uses flat soundboard, and they use printed chanter bridge. They have a special design for sound bar under the soundboard though. How do you feel about its sound quality as a result of these design choices, compare to more traditionally made study models like TPV or hummingbird? Are there noticeable difference in sound quality?
