    Great demo Neal. Thanks. I'm using a little Vox tube amp which is also nice and warm sounding with a great reverb. It's the Vox AGA4-AT. Only four watts but really kicks ass. Works well for the acoustic combo I'm playing with now. For the full rock band, I normally go through the PA. I use an LR Baggs EQ to warm up the mandolin sound.

      I have the same amp because it makes me feel like I’m a Beatle when I play my electric mandolin.

      Hey Rick, I just asked on your other comment, but what kind of electric mando do you have? I know in the back of my mind that I’ll have to get one someday :)

      @@COMANDOLIN , Neal, I’ve got a Kentucky solid body 4 string electric. Cost me @ $300 about 15 yrs ago. Bought it to play High On A Mountain by Seals and Crofts. ( Remember I’m old ). Check out the video to see Crofts play mandolin with tons of distortion. We have the same Mandolins so far, ( though you play em all better than me ), so I’m afraid you may be destined to buy the Kentucky!

    They are nice. I like the Bose rigs a lot, but I mostly play guitar and resonator, just a little mandy...

      That’s awesome - even the same cable :) it’s a couple of years later now (boy, that lighting was a work in progress) and I’ve used this guy on many more gigs and jams and it’s still a beast :)

    Hi Neal. That's a great little amp! I am going to have to check one of those out. I've been playing my Godin A8 Mandolin through an old Acoustic AG30 Amp with my band. For some reason, the older Acoustic Amps sound better than the new ones. By the way, I got "Blackbird" down. Thank you for that lesson! Do you want to work on, "Here Comes The Sun"? It's in the Beatle Book. Anyway thanks or the Loudbox Review.

      Hey bud, I’m glad you got blackbird down. Your cousin’s party is next month if I remember right. I figured I’d get around to HCTS sooner or later, I’ll move it up the list a bit :) Hey, thanks as always and have a great day!

    What are your preferred settings on the eq when playing your mandolin. Asking for a friend thank you!

    • @COMANDOLIN
      @COMANDOLIN  Před měsícem

      Hey there, I don’t suppose I have any specific settings. I generally turn the treble way down since the mando has more than enough high end, put the bass somewhere where it has some thump without being muddy and throw on however much reverb I feel like at the time. Usually, it’s just a bit of ‘verb and nothing else. I never use any of the chorus effects in the amp. It has such a nice acoustic sound and I don’t add much to it :)

    • @COMANDOLIN
      @COMANDOLIN  Před 3 lety +1

      I wish I could attach a picture, but it’s vertical just behind the bridge between the e string and f-hole. I do have a full video about that pickup where I went into detail about the setup if you scroll down my page a lot. Have a great day :)

      @@COMANDOLIN by vertical do you mean in line with the strings? I'm in the process of finding the best spot on my Mando. Trying to get rid of extraneous noises. I will look for your video, thanks.

    Hey Neal. Is that Yamaha Amp battery operated?

    • @COMANDOLIN
      @COMANDOLIN  Před rokem +1

      It’s both battery or plug in. It can go on 8 double As but I’ve never actually done that. Let me say though that that little guy is maybe the coolest piece of musical gear I’ve ever owned. It’s guitar sounds are amazing, it’s reverbs are so lush and it’s great for an acoustic or mando. Plus, you could plug in you phone or whatever and get Bose-like sound out of the thing. Of course it’s a little outdated now that everything is Bluetooth, but it’s got to be the greatest desktop/bedroom/house amp ever :)

      @@COMANDOLIN Wow! Now I want one!

    • @COMANDOLIN
      @COMANDOLIN  Před rokem +1

      Yeah, that little guy is spectacular. Great, great amp sounds and a great low volume mando amp. I’ve tried gigging with it by just putting a mic in front of it, but it’s not loud enough to hear onstage. The new ones are 35 watts and probably great (and I think they have direct outs), but this guy is made for playing in the bedroom late at night or taking in hotel rooms on trips. Pretty much anywhere except a gig -which then means 99% of the time- this thing is awesome. I’d get a new one, but they’re pretty pricey. But, wow are they cool! Plus, it looks like a toaster or space heater and is an instant conversation starter :)
