    Thanks for video. I’m in northern Idaho and hunt morels each spring on our mountains. We have blacks, grays and blondies. Blondies usually appear toward the end of the morel season. Hoping it’s gonna be another good year here. We still have too cold of temps and snow still on the ground - like a foot! But within a month, we should be finding the first bunch! Happy hunting!

    Im so glad to see you can get the big morrels but olny one thing everyone forgets to do one thing thats very important to do.....take the morrels and put them in a bag that you buy oranges in they have tiny holes in them....take them in that bag and shake them to release the spores for next year's batch.... And you can be proud you helped the next generation of morrel pickers,

    • @RootAndEarth
      @RootAndEarth  Před rokem +1

      Baskets also have holes and release the spores as you walk, and in addition they provide protection to keep the fragile morels from getting damaged as I snake trough thickets of choking branches and thorns. My main goal is to get my harvest home in as pristine condition is as humanly possible. That being said, to each their own technique and tools. Thank you for watching!

    Thanks for posting your morel video. I was curious as to what general part of the country you reside in? We in the southeastern part of Kentucky , usually we have the same time of arrival of the beloved morel as you all. About the first week in April. But as you mentioned, you have to hunt the prevalent conditions, not the calendar. We had an unusual warmup during February with ground temperatures reaching the high 50's . I didn't get out as much as I should, and I have paid for it in lost opportunity. Then, in March, it got cold and dry. But I have learned a lesson. I will watch conditions instead of the time of year.

    Digg ur channel brother. What State are you hunting in ? Love the morel season, & the smell, the sounds, the random spring gobbler letting one rip, its so therapeutic for me after the winter kills, und goes thru what I always think of the Earth’s cleaning season. Spring time it’s time for things to come back and start budding, & popping up&out. I am a resident of Western Maryland at the thinest place. Where I live in Md. its 6 minutes to Pennsylvania, and about 10 min to West by god Virginia. I mushroom hunt all 3 states, usually its prime time at April’s 3ed quarter, but this year has been strange because things got off to a late start because of cold nights & frosting. Believe it or not today is April 26,th and it frosted the last teo nights. I mean I have found plenty of nice yellow morels without frost burn but not like a normal year at this time. Like usual years I start finding black morels, & 1/2 frees, & verpas, but this year at all of my early spots nothing but dry ground, its not very incouraging, but still nice to get out in the spring air. Some folk see a shrink, I see large popular, ash, beech, apple, pear, & ol dead slippery Elm’ s hahaa😂. Dude today digging ur basket ! Love it, its very rare to see a basket in a shroomers hand, but that’s how my Pap foraged for mushrooms, or well everything, ramps, and other spring edible gatherings. I learned a lot about hunting in my location, from him &my father when I was a small child. I passed it on to my kids,& they cant wait for morel season. Actually rather go mushroom picking than fishing or bike riding, so I feel I did my job & passed on the tradition. Take care my man, & Robet Smith was my Wifes favorite, seeing ur the Cure T-shirt !✌️

      @@MsTMarie83 it’s a jungle out there. I’ve come across bears, and even had a run in with a big wild boar a few years back. For the most part they really have no interest in messing with humans. Especially if you raise your arms and yell. Wild pigs are very scary though. Don’t try to intimidate them. They don’t run away.
